ERASMUS Mundus II Programme ( ) Mobility Scheme for Students and Scholars National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation ERASMUS Mundus Phone: Fax:
What is the ERASMUS Mundus Programme? ERASMUS Mundus is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education, which was initiated by the European Commission. Its first generation ( ) entered into force on 20 January 2004 in order to enhance the quality of European higher education and to foster intercultural understanding via cooperation with Third Countries. With a budget of EUR 230 million, the European Commission has funded 103 ERASMUS Mundus Master Courses, 47 partnerships with Third Countries and 53 attractiveness projects. Grants have been awarded to students and scholars from third countries, students and 596 scholars from Europe. With a new budget of EUR 940 million ERASMUS Mundus enters into its second phase ( ) comprising three actions: Action 1 Joint Programmes (including scholarship scheme) Action 2 Cooperation Partnerships (including scholarship scheme) Action 3 Promotion Projects
Action 1 Joint Programmes ERASMUS Mundus Master Courses and ERASMUS Mundus Joint Doctoral Courses ERASMUS Mundus Consortia of at least three universities from different European countries and, if relevant, from Third Countries offer an integrated master course (with a duration of one to two years) or an integrated doctoral course (maximum duration of four years) with a study/ research period in at least two European universities of the consortium and lead to the award of a recognised double, multiple or joint degree. These courses, selected by the European Commission, give scholarships to European and Third-Country master students or doctoral candidates enrolled in ERASMUS Mundus Joint Programmes, short-term scholarships to European and Third-Country scholars to carry out teaching and research activities in ERASMUS Mundus Master Courses. What is the ERASMUS Mundus Programme? Action 2 Cooperation Partnerships ERASMUS Mundus External Cooperation Window Partnerships (with a duration from 1 to 34 months) composed of a minimum of five universities from three European countries and at least one university from targeted Third-Country groups (geographical lots) implement sustainable cooperation mechanisms and organise structured mobility flows between Europe and Third Countries in order to give scholarships to students (undergraduates, masters, doctorates, post-doctorates), researchers and academic staff from Europe and Third Countries. Action 3 ERASMUS Mundus Promotion Projects Higher education institutions and other public and private organisations active in the field of higher education from European and Third Countries constitute a project partnership in order to enhance the attractiveness, accessibility, profile and visibility of European Higher Education in the world. This action supports activities that contribute to the objectives of the programme and relate to the international dimension of all aspects of higher education.
Who can receive an ERASMUS Mundus Scholarship? ERASMUS Mundus scholarships are exclusively reserved for courses and networks selected under Action 1 and 2. Under Action 1, all scholarships are subject-related according to the respective ERASMUS Mundus Course, whereas scholarships under Action 2 cover all fields of study 1 (not necessarily at each university within the respective network). In general, ERASMUS Mundus scholarship holders cannot benefit from other community grants (e.g. Erasmus, Marie Curie). Action 1: ERASMUS Mundus Joint Programmes: 1. These countries must be different from the scholarship holder s home country and from the country in which he or she obtained the last university degree. 2. Part-time teaching and research activities - Master Courses: Scholar candidates from: Third Countries performing teaching/research/student tutoring activities in European Countries, European Countries performing teaching/research/student tutoring activities in Third Countries if the consortium includes Third-Country partners.

Deadlines for application will be announced by the consortia and partnerships on their respective websites. Students may apply to the maximum number of 3 courses for a scholarship under Action 1 there is no limit for Action 2. 13 Student s opinions and comments: Different people, different visions, one achievement. Jesus Jimenez, current Euroculture student at the University of Goettingen The courses are well-integrated into the programme, and the programme is well-coordinated. Harry Snow, USA The programme is stressful and intense, but the knowledge passed to the students is worth the efforts. Marija Slavkovik, Macedonia Sharing experiences between students from different countries helps to provide new ideas of life from other cultures. Andrianova Ekaterina, Russia Studies and the life in the partner universities are significant, meaningful, unforgettable and an attractive experience in my life. Jie Gao, China The different areas of expertise in material sciences that each university has to offer give a broad range of canvas to the students. Waqas Bin Najib, Pakistan In the middle of the course, I can say that it has already very much enriched my scientific abilities and my horizon and skills in interacting with people around the world. I think that this programme really facilitates mutual understanding between people. Adhitya Trenggono, Indonesia This is not only a big chance to improve my technical knowledge; it is also the opportunity to grow up as a person. Ricardo Chavez, Mexico It is the best opportunity to receive international experience, learn foreign languages and create new scientific contacts. Nataliya Kalashnyk, Ukraine
