3 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees are: Highly integrated international master programmes Supported & Selected and by the European Commission/EACEA Developed & delivered by a consortium of Programme country & if relevant also Partner country universities That include a mandatory study period in at least two different Programme Countries (EU28 + 5) That lead to the award of fully recognised joint or multiple degrees 3

5 EMJMD Main Aims Foster QUALITY improvements, INNOVATION, EXCELLENCE, INTERNATIONALISATION in HEIs; Increase QUALITY & ATTRACTIVENESS of the EHEA supporting EU EXTERNAL Policy in the HE field, by offering full degree scholarships to the best Master Students worldwide; Improve the level of COMPETENCES and SKILLS of Master Graduates, in particular their relevance for the LABOUR MARKET, through an increased involvement of employers (employability) 5
6 EMJMD Structure Very high selectivity & quality: Integrated international MA programmes for the very best students worldwide Fully recognised and accredited joint / multiple Master degrees Developed and delivered by a consortium of HEIs from Programme Countries & Partner Countries (if relevant) Duration months ( ECTS credits), optional preparatory year + 3 intakes (5 years maximum) covered by one Grant Agreement Mandatory study period in at least 2 different Programme Countries (no virtual mobility) - full scholarships with a priority on non-eu students (75 % students from Partner Countries) Support to invited scholars (guest lecturers) contributing to the EMJMD teaching/training/research activities 6
7 EMJMD New Elements Preparatory year is no longer mandatory Streamlined award criteria including different weighting Additional scholarships for 9 targeted regions (14 geographical windows) financed by EU external funding instruments Increased and guaranteed number of EMJMD scholarships (15 scholarships per intake, + possibility for additional scholarships for targeted regions) and number of EMJMD projects planned to be funded (27 EMJMDs) 7
8 Taking part as an organisation EMJMDs are open to any public or private organisation located in Programme or Partner Countries Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) Non-academic partners (enterprises, non-profit organisations, NGOs, foundations, etc.) Applicant must be a HEI established in a Programme Country. The HEI applies on behalf of the JMD consortium Minimum consortium composition: at least 3 HEIs as full partners from at least 3 different Programme Countries Associated partners (optional): contribute indirectly to the implementation of specific tasks/activities, e.g. dissemination, knowledge and skills transfer, complementary courses or possibilities for secondment placement. For contractual management issues: not considered as part of the EMJMD consortium 8
9 EMJMD Award Criteria Projects will be assessed against the following criteria: Relevance of the project (min 22,5 (75%) of max 30 points) Quality of the project design and implementation (min 60% of max 25 points)a Quality of the project team & the cooperation arrangements (min 60% of max 20 points) Impact and dissemination (max 25 points) To be considered for funding, proposals must score at least 70 points overall 9

13 Taking part as an individual Students apply directly to the EMJMD consortium. All on-going EMJMDs offering scholarships are included in the EMJMD catalogue available under the following link: EMJMD scholarship applicants/holders: must have a first higher education degree or equivalent must not have received an Erasmus Mundus Master Course and/or Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate scholarship/fellowship in the past can submit a scholarship application to maximum three EMJMD programmes must sign a student agreement with the EMJMD consortium 13
14 Advantages for Students Full scholarship covering participation costs, travel and living costs Health and accident insurance Study (perform research, undergo a placement) in at least two different Programme Countries of the EMJMD consortium (min. 30 ECTS credits each study period) Fully recognised and accredited joint or multiple degree (comprising a Joint Diploma Supplement) Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association: 14
15 EMJMD students scholarships Covers Contribution to participation costs Contribution to travel costs Contribution to installation costs Students from Partner Countries up to per year per year if residence is less than km from EMJMD coordinator per year if residence is km or more from EMJMD coordinator Students from Programme Countries up to per year per year Living allowance (max 24 months) per month (not when in country of residence, and max 3 months in any Partner Country) per month (not when in country of residence) 15
