1 Information and Technology Services Maplewood Admin Elementary COMPLETING THE ONTARIO PROVINCIAL REPORT CARD Student Achievement is reported to the Ministry through your school s OnSIS submissions. Errors will occur if report cards are not completed correctly. The information contained in this document will assist you with completing the Ontario Provincial Card while adhering to Ministry Guidelines. ALL students (see OSR Guidelines below) will receive an Ontario Provincial Card. This includes students receiving an Alternative Card : The Alternative Card will accompany the Elementary Progress and the Elementary Provincial Card at the regular reporting times. It is important to note that each subject and each strand on the Ontario Provincial Card must have something reported. Cards OSR Guidelines A report card will be completed and filed in the OSR folder for each student who has been enrolled in the school for more than six weeks from the commencement of the reporting period. Getting Started.... Recommended Web Browser Although Maplewood ConnectEd is designed to work with a variety of web browsers, it is recommended that you use Internet Explorer, version 7 or higher. To check your browser version, click on Help and go to About Internet Explorer. Screen Resolution To ensure your computer screen displays the Maplewood ConnectEd webpage correctly, it is recommended that your Screen Resolution for Maplewood ConnectEd is 1024 x 768. On your computer at school you will find an icon on your desktop called ScreenRez. This will adjust your screen resolution to this size. It is recommended that you run this icon each time before going into Maplewood. Save and Save often When working on your report cards, be sure to save your work frequently. If you click the Save button, it will save your work and you will remain on that screen. If you click Save &Go Back, it will save your work and take you back to the main menu. Cancel will not save any changes and take you back to the main menu. Do not use your browser navigation buttons to move between screens. 1 P age

2 MARK ENTRY When entering marks for subjects with multiple strands the box beside Show Totals (on the Class Achievement Screen) must be checked in order for the mark entry box to appear. MARK OPTIONS GRADE/MARK CRITERIA COMMENT Letter Grade Grade 1 to 6 students Strengths & Next Steps Numerical Grade I 7.2 R & NEW! ALT 9.4 Grade 7 & 8 students Teachers will use their professional judgment to determine when there is insufficient evidence to assign a mark (i.e. significant absences, recent move). When considering the use of an I, it must be done in consultation with the school administrator. R is used for students who achieve below level one (mark below 50%). ALT is used for students on an IEP with alternative learning expectations who are receiving an Alternative Card. NOTE: Where the student s program is not based on expectations from the Ontario curriculum for Grades 1 8, the HPEDSB Alternative Card will be used to report the student s progress/achievement. Strengths & Next Steps The I statement (see page 4) must be included. The R statement (see page 4) must be included. The ALT statement (see page 4) must be included. 2 P age

3 N/A BOXES - : N/A For subjects that are not formally addressed in a given term (as per subject reporting requirements), the N/A box must be checked. N/A may only be used for the following subjects: French, Native Language, Mathematics (strand level), History, Geography, The Arts (strand level). The N/A statement (see page 4) must be included. To check the N/A box for an entire class, go to: Achievement Card Details Student Programs by Class Select the class from list of assigned classes. Complete as applicable. Save. IEP BOXES - : 9.3 IEP IEP If a student s IEP requires only accommodations to support learning in a subject and/or strand, teachers WILL NOT CHECK the IEP box. If the expectations in the IEP are modified from the regular grade level program (that is they vary from the regular grade level expectations and are an increase/decrease in number and/ or complexity of curriculum expectations), teachers WILL CHECK the IEP box on the report card. The IEP statement (see page 4) must be included. ESL/ELD BOXES - : 10 ESL/ELD ESL/ELD Teachers WILL NOT CHECK the ESL/ ELD box when the student is participating in ESL or ELD Programs, or when accommodations have been provided to enable the student to demonstrate his/her learning (e.g., extra time to complete assignments, access to a bilingual dictionary, opportunities to work in the student s first language). Teachers WILL CHECK the ESL/ ELD box on the Progress Cards and Provincial Cards to indicate that modifications have been made to curriculum expectations to address the language learning needs of English language learners. No statement regarding modifications will appear in the space for comments when the ESL/ELD boxes are checked. 3 P age

4 COMMENTS Bulleted Statements will be used Collaborative Boxes I Statement 7.2 R Statement ALT Statement 9.4 IEP Box Statement 9.3 N/A Box Statement French Comment To Create a Bullet Alt+7 while holding the Alt Key, select the number 7 on the number pad (ensure number lock is ON) For Laptops: Alt+Fn+7 while holding both the Alt and the FN keys, select the numeric 7 Mac Users: use Option +8 It is recommended that where teachers share a comment box, they indicate the strand (i.e. Dance, Music) within the comment (a heading is not required). Rotary teacher names will appear beside subject names when printed. There is insufficient evidence to assign a letter grade/percentage mark. The report card comments should indicate why the I has been assigned (i.e. significant absences, recent move, etc.). The student has not demonstrated the required knowledge and skills. Extensive remediation is required which may include. See Alternative Card will be placed in the comment section for each subject receiving a mark of ALT. This (letter grade/percentage mark) is based on achievement of expectations in the IEP that vary from the Grade X expectations (and/or) are an (increase/decrease) in the (number and/or complexity) of curriculum expectations. () was not formally assessed/reported on this term. In cases where Grade 3 students in 3/4 splits are receiving literacy instruction within a Core French setting (for the purposes of prep), do not insert a letter grade for any of the strands in French. The French teacher will insert the following statement at the top of the French subject box and then add comments below. Oral communication expectations from the language curriculum are also being addressed in French periods of instructions. Comments should be related to a student s progress in working toward the oral communication expectations in the Language curriculum document. 4 P age

5 Learning Skills & Work Habits E-Excellent G-Good S-Satisfactory N-Needs Improvement Responsibility Independent Work Initiative Organization Collaboration Self Regulation : 8.1 MARKS (E, G, S, N) must be submitted for ALL STRANDS for the Learning Skills &Work Habits in each available reporting period. An I cannot be used for Learning Skills. : 9.4 ing on Elementary IEP with Alternative Learning Expectations ALL STUDENTS will work toward the six learning skills outlined on the Elementary Provincial card. Comments include Strengths/Next steps for Improvement for all students. Learning Skills & Work Habits is not considered an alternative program area. : & Teachers will exercise professional judgment regarding the appropriate number of learning skills and work habits to comment upon in an effort to provide comprehensive information to parents. The learning skills and work habits headings will precede the related comments and follow the order that appears on the Progress/ Card. Bulleted statements in the learning skills and work habits comment box must be capitalized, end with a period (in order to match the learning skills and work habits sample behaviours), and be left aligned. Language N/A : Reading Writing Oral Communications Media Literacy Marks must be submitted for all 4 strands in each available period as follows: are receiving an Alternative Card include ALT Statement (see page 4) 5 P age

6 French Oral Communications Reading Writing N/A Core Immersion Extended : A mark must be submitted for each strand if French is part of the student s instructional program. are receiving an Alternative Card include ALT Statement (see page 4) The Core/Immersion/Extended box is automatically populated using information contained in the Student s Enrolment Record within Maplewood. : /4 Split Grades: In cases where Grade 3 students in combined 3/4 classes are receiving literacy instruction within a Core French setting (for the purposes of prep), do not insert a letter grade for any of the strands in French. History Geography N/A N/A : Marks must be submitted for History and/or Geography at least once in the school year in either 1 or 2. The Arts Dance Drama Music Visual Arts French : & Marks must be submitted for 3 of the 4 strands in each available period. Each must be reported on at least once per school year on 1 or 2. 9 AM I FINISHED? There is a report available in ConnectEd for teachers to search for missing marks, learning skills, and comments in all of their classes. From the Main Menu Select Make appropriate selections and select the Search button.. The report lists the student, the class, and places an X in the column of the missing criteria. PRINTING DRAFT REPORT CARDS Draft Cards can be printed directly from ConnectEd. From the Main Menu Select Make appropriate selections and select the View button. A new window opens from where you can select to print a DRAFT copy of the Card. 9 P age
