Introduction The Ontario government is committed to enabling all students to reach their potential, and to succeed. Growing Success 2010 is an Ontario Ministry of Education document with policies and practices aimed at maintaining improved student learning through consistent assessment, evaluation, and reporting of student achievement in Ontario schools, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Elementary Report Card design supports the Growing Success documentation. The online Trillium Web Elementary Achievement report card format provides teachers with a series of online frames to complete with marks and personalized comments. The final product is a printed report card for each student. LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 3 of 28

LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 10 of 28 Mark Entry for Multiple Students, Grades 1-8 Select Enable Multi-Update to activate Marks Entry for Multiple Students. A new feature has been added to the Mark Entry page to allow for a mark to be entered for multiple students. Checkboxes appear at the beginning of each student's row. The user checks on the boxes for the students who are to be assigned the same mark (or NA value), and then enter the mark for one of the students. All students selected will be given the same value. If the NA flag is being updated, and any of the selected students have data entered (mark, IEP, etc), the user receives a warning message that students will have this information deleted, and the user is asked if they wish to continue.

LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 12 of 28 Student Comments Tab Enter text for one student at a time or use the Copy To button for copying a comment to many students. Select the student s name and pronouns from the Insert Pronouns box. The Copy To function must be started by searching for a type of comment stored in the personal comment bank. The final comment used can be from your Comment Builder Bank or from a text file or directly written. Students Comments Names, pronouns Continued
Comment Box Size White background = comment fits. Yellow background = Caution lines to go. Red background = Too many lines. View entire comment lets you see comments made by other teachers who share the subject. Subject Groups: similar subjects that share a comment box: The Arts (Drama, Dance, Music, Visual Arts), Health and Physical Education, History and Geography LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 13 of 28
Copy To Button Activate the button by Selecting a Personal Comment created and saved in the Comment Builder section. Choose any comment from the results to trigger the popup menu. Red checks indicate students have assigned comments. NOTE: Board and Group Comments are not available. Search for a comment. Select a comment from results. Click Copy To Button to open the frame. students students LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 14 of 28
LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 15 of 28 Notes for Copy To The comment in the Copy To Box can be edited, but must contain Name and Pronoun codes that will convert each student s name and respective pronouns. Find/Replace and Delete. Details on next page... SAVE often! If you type too many characters, your comment will not be accepted. Use the Spell Check before applying comments to students. Students
Find and Replace Within the Copy To function Go to STUDENT COMMENTS PAGE. Search for (any) comment to activate Copy To. In the working frame for Copy To is the Find and Replace Tab. The ability to search and replace comment strings is now available. Within the Copy To window is a new 'Find/Replace' button. The user will select the students to be included in the search, and can use the select all checkbox to select all students in the class. The user then presses the Find/Replace button, and window appears to capture the string to find, and its replacement string. NOTE: Comment(s) must be saved before being used in Find/Replace. The comment that is checked to open the Copy To window is not related to the Find/Replace function. LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 16 of 28
Find and Replace (continued) When the button Preview is clicked the application performs the search and, if any occurrences are found, replaces them and displays the result as follows: Note that only those students whose comment contains the search string will appear in the results window. Any other students in the class will be unaffected. If the user decides that some of the replacements shouldn t take place, these replacements can be skipped by unchecking the Select checkbox for the corresponding student. Once the user clicks the Apply button, the Find/Replace window is closed and the system attempts to apply the selected replacements to the corresponding students. If the comment is now too large for the available space, the message The number of lines exceeded is raised, and identifies the students having an issue. The user can then resolve this issue by editing individual comments directly from this window. LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 17 of 28
Find and Replace (continued) The replace functionality does not include special handling around the student s name and pronoun values. For example, a student's name should not be included in the Find string. If a pronoun is to be changed within a comment, the user will need to do two substitutions, one for comments with the male pronouns, another for the female pronouns. If there is a need to change the comment structure such as adding a word in front of the student s name, the user can take advantage of the Delete function to erase the entire comment for the selected students and then apply the new, corrected comment to these students. LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 18 of 28
Learning Skills Drop down the Skills menus, one at a time, for each student. You can write one comment at a time with Name/Pronoun guide OR you can use the Copy To button to fill comments for multiple students. Names Pronoun LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 19 of 28
Learning Skills Select and click on Learning Skills tab to complete Learning Skills and Work Habits. Teachers can collaborate to complete the Learning Skills. Only the Homeroom Teacher may complete the Levels (E,G,S, N). The second box in the L.S. view is for the Homeroom Teacher to enter the Next Steps. They will be visible at the end of the text box. Copy To is enabled for copying comments to more than one student. New Button See Next Page LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 20 of 28
Learning Skills A new report has been added that documents the Learning Skills marks and comments for all students in the class. This new report is available on the Learning Skills page LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 21 of 28
Comment Builder Name your comments under their respective subjects. Choose Type: Achievement or Learning Skills. Choose Achievement Level, Subject, Strand, Grade. Use Name/Pronoun guide. SAVE! Copy to New lets you use the current text for the next comment. LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 22 of 28
Codes for Comment Building Always keep the individual student in mind while using the benefits of the Copy To Button. Name Full He/ Him/ His/ he/ him/ His/ Son/ Name She Her Her she her her daughter *N* *FN* *4* *7* *5* *1* *6* *2* *3* You can build your report comments online or on a word processor. (Avoid using Wordperfect as it transfers uninvited symbols into your text.) Use the name and pronoun codes carefully to avoid rewriting your final reports. You need to have at least one comment in your bank to activate the Copy To Button. You can overwrite and paste a prewritten comment into the popup comment box. You can edit the comment, use it for a different grade and save a great deal of time. LDSB Elementary Report Card Manual September 2014 Page 23 of 28
