International CONFERENCE Multilingualism, Transculturality and Education Regional development in the Alps-Adriatic area in a global perspective Wednesday 8 th to Friday 10 th 2008 Alpen-Adria University of Klagenfurt, Austria Contact: daniela.gronold@uni-klu.ac.at Zentrum für Friedensforschung u. Friedenspädagogik
Why this conference? The conference is part of the Austrian and international activities to mark the EU Year of Intercultural Dialogue and the UNESCO Year of Languages. It differs from other events in three ways: it offers a particular content approach, a special geographic perspective and a form of organisation with regard for sustainability: - it thematises the core fields of multilingualism and transculturality with regard to educational processes, especially in the formal education system. - it specifically considers the Alps-Adriatic area as the field of activity, but this is not seen as limiting the horizons. On the contrary, the conference is concerned to bring in global perspectives to this transnational region. - it offers new impulses for a nascent research network which promotes continuity and therefore sustainability. - the conference has three aims: the dissemination of new insights, a dialogue between the disciplines and a networking between the actors, and the making public and support of existing and developing projects Target groups: people from the fields of science, education, business and culture from the Alps-Adriatic area, in particular from the meeting point of the three countries Italy- Slovenia-Austria. Contents and areas of focus Intercultural dialogue and multilingualism in the following areas: - history - business - politics - education - culture Organisers The conference will be held at a university with the programmatic title of Alpen- Adria (Alps-Adriatic) in its name, involving the following university units: - Zentrum für Friedensforschung und Friedenspädagogik (Centre for Peace Research and Peace Education) - Österreichisches Kompetenzzentrum für Deutschdidaktik (Austrian Competence Centre for the Teaching of German) - Institut für Erziehungswissenschaft und Bildungsforschung (Institute of Education and Educational Research) - AG Mehrsprachigkeit (Working Group on Multilingualism) Scientific organisers: Prof. Dr. Werner Wintersteiner and Prof. Dr. Georg Gombos Organisation: Dr. Daniela Gronold
