Master Electrical Engineering Program outcome The program aims at forming engineers who are able to design (based on fairly generally formulated needs) complex electronic systems and advanced algorithms for signal and data processing in information and telecommunication systems. In this problem solving process, the graduate takes into account technological constraints and constraints inherent to the industrial environment, both in terms of hardware and software.

Academic calendar www.kuleuven.be/about/calendars/academic_calendar_2015_2016 2 semesters: September-January February-June 3 exam periods: January June-July August-September (resit exams) In our faculty they start on 8 August 2016! No classes no obligations. Ask before making travel plans!
ISP (Individual Study Program) www.kuleuven.be/english/education/studyroute/isp ISP = online system for selecting courses ISP is linked to IER (Individual Exam Schedule or IES) You can only complete ISP if you have selected an exam moment for every course ISP is a contract between you & university You cannot receive a score for a course which is not in your ISP You cannot graduate if you haven t passed all courses from your ISP, even if you earned 120 credits Be careful to exceed 120 credits!
Filling in your ISP No option, no ISP! Make a planning covering the two years (even though you can only fill in ISP for this year) Mark 60 (max. 66) credits in ISP before the deadline Balance semester, but don t overload semester 1 Elective courses (no guarantee they fit your schedule) Check if course is actually taught this year/semester! For other courses from the University s offer, make sure you have the required previous knowledge Contact the lecturer Choose your exam dates in IER (dates may fill up) Some courses have no exam date (e.g., P&D)
Filling in your ISP: timing Your deadlines: 3rd Wednesday of semester October 7 (1st semester) / February 24 (2nd semester) Final approval by us/the faculty before November 15 (1st semester) / March 15 (2nd semester) Submit ( Send ISP ) your ISP before October 7, but do not submit it before it is complete including IER if you have problems / questions (e.g. prerequisites), contact the master secretary or the program director the sooner the better

Exams 2 exam periods: January (sem1) & June-July (sem2) 2 kinds Oral exam with written preparation Test exam will be organized (see next slide) Written exam (exceptional) In case of problems (cancel, sick, change date...) contact the ombudsperson! Resit exams: August-September Resit exam or retake course if grade < 10/20. No resit exam possible if you got 10/20! Also applies to the thesis!
Test exam Test on Basic Electronic Circuits (October 1 or 2) www.esat.kuleuven.be/education/master/ee/bec-test Purpose 1. Introduce you to oral exams Experience a real oral exam (preparation assumed) with no impact on your grade with feedback on doing exams 2. Check background for electronics courses If insufficient, catch-up course H08T5A available (not part of your master credits)

Exam irregularities: plagiarism and fraud Fraud = any conduct on the part of a student in an attempt to make it impossible to arrive at an accurate assessment e.g., during exam use computer, use/pass notes, cooperate Plagiarism www.kuleuven.be/plagiarism = copying the work of someone else without adequate acknowledgement, in an identical form or slightly changed (Attempt to) fraud and plagiarism is strongly penalized! Possible actions: 0 for exam/assignment no marks for several exams excluded for one/more courses lose the right to enrolment
Frequently Asked Questions I don t like my program, it contains courses that I won t need or that I am not interested in. Can I change/drop compulsory courses? No, they are part of our program outcome. There are timing conflicts between compulsory and elective courses or between elective courses. Please redo the planning or lecture multiple times. Impossible, certainly for borrowed electives. Electives mentioned in the program suggest topics, they are not guaranteed to be conflict-free.
Frequently Asked Questions Where can I find all rules and deadlines? In the Regulations on Education and Examinations (OER) www.kuleuven.be/education/regulations/2015/?faculteit=50000486 Can I resit a January exam in June? Under certain conditions in your final Leuven year. Note: you can have only 2 exams per course per year! For deadlines and regulations, see OER art. 47. Can I retake an exam, which I already passed? No
Frequently Asked Questions Can a failed exam be tolerated? No, tolerance is not possible in the master. Note: dual degree students must get 54 credits in Leuven and 120 credits in total. All courses are equally important! Failing an elective or a non-technical course no degree! What is the difference between stage and year? Stage = year of a 2-year program If it takes you more than 2 years, your program will contain courses from different stages in one year
