www.pums.edu.pl Poznan University of Medical Sciences The (PUMS) is one of the best and largest medical universities in Poland, with over 92 years of sound academic experience and a great growth potential. Our University is a leading medical school in Poland and is currently recognized as the largest educational, research, and clinical center in Poland (according rankings of Perspektywy, Rzeczpospolita, and Wprost ). It offers the highest number of specialties for students to choose from, and the research and clinical teaching is conducted here in close partnership with six clinical hospitals. In the academic year 2012-2013, there are over 8,000 students enrolled in the University, including nearly 1,000 international students. Its academic personnel is comprised of over 1,000 faculty members and teaching staff employed in Medical Faculty I, Medical Faculty II, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Health Sciences, all of which are affiliated with the program. Most of them are medical practitioners and doctors of medicine; around a hundred represent different scientific disciplines; and nearly a hundred are doctors of dentistry. One of the top priorities for the continued growth of the University is the expansion of the various forms of collaboration in the areas of teaching and research. The maintains and develops various forms of cooperation with foreign research centers and universities worldwide through: joint research, participation in international programs and research projects; joint publications and participation in scientific conferences; as well as through numerous student and faculty exchanges. To this date, the University has entered into more than 30 long-term partnership agreements with medical universities and research centers worldwide. Over the years, members of the PUMS faculty and research staff have been receiving prestigious awards and wide recognition for the excellent quality of their work, research and teaching, and some have been sought after by the world s advanced medical centers. For example, in 2008 Dr. Maria Siemionow, a PUMS graduate and professor of surgery, has been responsible for leading the landmark face transplantation surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in the U.S.A. 5-year D.D.S. Program Doctor of Dental Surgery 5 years (10 semesters) 300 The five-year D.D.S. The curriculum for the five-year D.D.S. program at PUMS follows the one taught to the Polish students. Upon completion, successful students will receive the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery, D.D.S. Those graduates who plan to practice dentistry in North America will have to complete two additional years of study in the United States or Canada, making it a total of seven years to obtain a license. It is a standard requirement for all graduates with a foreign degree in North America. 6-year M.D. Program Doctor of Medicine 6 years (12 semesters) 360 This program is based on the Polish curriculum and is designed for European and other international candidates who have graduated from high school. The course is divided into two parts: Part I takes up the two preclinical years and is devoted primarily to the following subjects: Anatomy, Medical Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Histology and Embryology, Physiology, Medical Latin, and Medical Polish. During that time the clinical aspects of these subjects are gradually introduced as well. Part II starts in the third year and takes up the remaining four years of the course. 6-year Pharm.D. Program 6 years (12 semesters) 330 The six-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) Program in offered by the is designed for U.S., Canadian, and other international high school or college graduates whose goal is to receive a degree in pharmacy. Candidates for this program may be accepted after demonstrating a necessary record of academic achievement in Biology, Chemistry, and ; and after passing a preliminary interview with the PUMS Admissions staff. This six-year Pharm. D. curriculum fully complies with the standards and guidelines for professional programs in pharmacy defined by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). It also adheres to the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and to the requirements of the Council on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications. Interested candidates who are high school graduates may apply for admission to the first year, i.e., the first pre-pharmacy year; whereas college graduates may apply for admission to the third year, i.e., the first professional year, of the Pharm.
