Art. 1- Admission requirements Citizens in possession of an upper high school diploma can be admitted to the exam. Foreign qualifications are valid if obtained after at least 12 years of schooling. If the local education system provides 11 or 10 years of schooling, the qualification is valid if supplemented by one or two years of university study, respectively, and if all exams scheduled for the years attended have been passed. The years of university study can be substituted by a post-secondary qualification awarded by a non-university higher education 1

institute. Further information about the foreign qualifications valid for access to University is contained in the Ministerial provisions published on the Ministry website: http://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/ EU and non-eu citizens in possession of a permit to stay in Italy issued in accordance with art. 26 of Law no. 189 of 30 July 2002 have access to university education under the same conditions as Italian students. Citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, the Republic of San Marino, refugees and the beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, staff working in foreign diplomatic missions and in international bodies with headquarters in Italy, accredited by the Italian State or the Holy See, as well as their dependent family members (spouses and children only) are considered equivalent to EU citizens. Art. 2 Number of places available The number of places available for the first year is as follows: Degree course in Chemistry Degree course in Industrial Chemistry Degree course in Computer Science (Milan campus) Degree course in Computer Science (Crema campus) Degree course in Music Information Science Degree course in Computer Science for New Media Communications Degree course in Biological Sciences Degree course in Natural Sciences Degree course in Computer Systems and Networks Security 130 places 150 places 250 places 93 places 90 places 250 places 50 places 150 places 200 places The following places have been reserved for non-eu citizens resident abroad: 8 places for degree course in Chemistry, 8 places for degree course in Industrial Chemistry, 15 places for degree course in Computer Science (Milan and Crema campuses), 5 places for degree course in Music Information Science, 5 places for degree course in Computer Science for New Media Communications, 10 places for degree course in Biological Sciences, 5 places for degree course in Natural Sciences, 5 places for degree course in Computer Systems and Networks Security. Non-EU applicants resident abroad must sit for and pass a test of proficiency in the Italian language, as set out in ministerial provisions published at: http://www.studiare-initalia.it/studentistranieri/ 2

Art. 3 - Exam registration procedure and deadline All candidates must register for the admission exam online between 15 July 2015 and midday, 25 August 2015. To register for the exam, candidates must follow the procedure below: 1. Register on the University portal through the page https://www.unimi.it/registrazione/registra.keb (operation not necessary for those already registered on the portal or in possession of university log-in details) 2. Access the online application services, using own log-in details: http://studenti.divsi.unimi.it/ammissioni/a/primolivello/checklogin.asp 3. Pay the fee of 30.00 in one of the following ways: using the MAV (notice of payment) form generated at the end of the online registration procedure (only in Italy); by credit card (until 5 days before the deadline for applications). Without exception, payment must be made by the deadline for registration, on pain of exclusion. A receipt (application for admission) is issued at the end of the online enrolment procedure and must be shown to the examining board on the day of the exam. The receipt is the only document accepted as proof of enrolment for the admission exam. Any candidate who provides false details will be excluded from the final ranking list. Candidates with academic qualifications gained abroad must upload their qualification and if they already have it, the dichiarazione di valore in loco issued by the Italian diplomatic office in the country where the qualification was obtained, indicating the minimum and maximum grades in the grade system applied. Besides online university enrolment, Non-EU candidates resident abroad, must also present an application for pre-enrolment to the Italian diplomatic office in their country of origin, as required by the laws governing access of foreign students to university courses published on the Education Ministry website: http://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/ Art. 4 - Disabled candidates In order to ensure equal opportunities during the exam, candidates with disabilities who require extra time and/or specific aids must apply to the Student administration office of Science and Technology (Via Celoria 22) or by fax to 0250313872 by 25 August 2015, including certification issued by the competent local healthcare structure, in accordance with law no. 104/92 as subsequently amended. 3

Art. 5 - Candidates with s.l.d. Candidates with a diagnosis of specific learning disabilities (s.l.d.) under law 170 of 2010 are granted 30% more time than that set for the other candidates. The board can also consent to the use of compensatory tools that, considering the type of test to be taken and the type and degree of the candidate s disability, are necessary to ensure equal opportunities during the exam. To be allowed to use the abovementioned measures, candidates with s.l.d. must apply to the Student Administration Office of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Via Celoria 22 or by fax to 0250313872, by 25 August 2015, including appropriate certification issued not more than three years previously by the National Health Service or accredited specialists or facilities. Art. 6 Students from other programmes or universities, and graduates Students wishing to enrol in degree courses in Biological Sciences or Natural Sciences and who are already enrolled in a degree programme at the University of Milan or another university, or who have already graduated, have to sit for the admission exam. Students wishing to enrol in degree courses in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Computer Science (Milan and Crema campuses), Music Information Science, Computer Science for New Media Communications or Computer Systems and Networks Security, and who are already enrolled in a degree programme at the University of Milan or another university, or who have already graduated, may only be exempted from the admission exam if they have the necessary requisites for admission to second or subsequent years. Application for exemption must be presented to the Student administration office of the relevant degree course together with a self-declaration of exams already passed with dates, grades, credits and sectors of scientific discipline. The form, office address and office hours can be found on the websites indicated below. The deadline for presenting the application is 18 July 2015. The application will be examined by the Teaching Committee of the relevant degree course. If the Committee decides that the applicant cannot be admitted to the second or subsequent years, the student must sit for the admission exam. The outcome of the application will be published on the following websites before the end of July: - Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry: www.ccdchim.unimi.it - Computer Science (Milan campus), Computer Science for New Media Communications, Music Information Science: www.ccdinf.unimi.it - Computer Science (Crema campus), Computer Systems and Networks Security: www.ccdinfcr.unimi.it. 4

Art. 7 - Admission exam schedule and procedure The admission exam will take place on 7 September 2015 at the Milan and Crema campuses. The classrooms and the subdivision of candidates by classroom will be published on the Science and Technology website www.scienzemfn.unimi.it/, on 3 September 2015. Candidates choosing courses at the Crema campus (Computer Science Crema campus and Computer Systems and Networks Security) will sit for the exam at Crema, subject to the number of places available at Crema. If the number of candidates for Crema exceeds the number of places available, places will be assigned in order of registration for the admission exam. Candidates must arrive at 9.30am bearing the valid proof of enrolment indicated in the enrolment phase (Art. 3). When the candidates identity has been checked the exam will begin. During the exam candidates cannot leave the room, use handwritten notes, texts of any kind, calculators, cell phones or any other instrument of calculation, communication or data storage. The board and the supervisory staff will supervise observance of the abovementioned rules and have the right to adopt the necessary measures resulting from their non-observance. For any matters not covered in this announcement, the provisions on the conduct of public competitions apply. Art. 8 - Examining board The examining board is appointed by Rector s Decree. During the exam the board will be assisted by teaching and administrative staff, who will be responsible for supervising and identifying the candidates. Art. 9 Description of admission exam The exam consists in a multiple choice questionnaire divided into various sections according to subject, ordered in a given sequence. A time is allotted for each section, after which the candidate must move on to the next section. In each time period, the candidate may not return to a previous section or begin a subsequent one. The sections and the time allotted to them are as follows: - Basic mathematical language: 20 questions, 60 minutes; - Biology: 15 questions, 15 minutes; - Chemistry: 15 questions, 20 minutes; - Physics: 15 questions, 30 minutes; 5

- Comprehension of written text: 10 questions, 20 minutes; - Mathematics and problems: 10 questions, 20 minutes; - Earth Sciences: 15 questions, 20 minutes. The items are closed questions: the candidate is given five options, only one of which is correct. The Basic mathematical language section is included in the admission exam of all the degree courses of the present competition announcement. Candidates will also be assessed in the following sections: for admission to degree courses in Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry: Chemistry for admission to degree courses in Computer Science (Milan and Crema), Music Information Science, Computer Science for New Media Communications, Computer Systems and Networks Security: Mathematics and problems for admission to degree courses in Biological Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Comprehension of written texts; for admission to degree courses in Natural Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences. Thus, the admission exam for degree courses in o o o o Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry is composed of 35 questions and lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes; Computer Science (Milan and Crema), Music Information Science, Computer Science for New Media Communications, Computer Systems and Networks Security is composed of 30 questions and lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes; Biological Sciences is composed of 75 questions and lasts 2 hour and 25 minutes; Natural Sciences is composed of 65 questions and lasts 1 hour and 55 minutes. The exam syllabi and the exams of previous years can be found at: http://www.scienzemfn.unimi.it/test_sz1502.html The admission exam will be followed by an obligatory test to check knowledge of the English language, which will not be assessed for the purpose of forming the ranking list for admission to the courses. This test will last 45 minutes. Art. 10 - Examination assessment criteria and ranking list The exam for the degree course in Biological Sciences will be assessed by assigning points as follows: Correct answer: 1 point Wrong answer: -0.25 points 6

No answer, crossed out or illegible: 0 points The exam for degree courses other than Biological Sciences will be assessed by assigning points as follows: Correct answer: 1 point Wrong answer, no answer, crossed out or illegible: 0 points The maximum point score possible depends on the degree course competed for: 35 points for Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, 30 points for Computer Science (Milan and Crema), Music Information Science, Computer Science for New Media Communications, Computer Systems and Networks Security, 75 points for Biological Sciences, 65 points for Natural Sciences. After notification of the results, candidates can download a certificate with the points earned in each exam section from their personal area on the CISIA website (CISIA is the consortium that corrects the admission exam). For each exam, the Examining board will compile a merit-based ranking list on the basis of the following criteria, in the order in which they appear: a) total point score; b) in the case of two candidates with the same total point score, the candidate with the higher score in Basic mathematical language will be selected; c) in the case of further candidates with the same score, for admission to degree courses in Biological Sciences and Natural Sciences the candidate with the highest score in the corresponding section (Biology for Biological Sciences, Earth Sciences for Natural Sciences) will be selected; d) in the case of further candidates with the same score, for all ranking lists, the candidate with the best mark in the secondary school leaving examination will be selected. The English language test will serve only for guidance and will have the exclusive aim of identifying students level of language knowledge in order to permit functional organization of the English language courses provided, in line with the objectives set according to the descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Art. 11 - Registration The ranking lists will be posted on the University website at the following page: www.unimi.it - Servizi online SIFA Graduatorie ammissione corsi di laurea (http://www.unimi.it/hpsifa/nonprofiledpage_100.html) on 11 September 2015. Candidates winning a place in the ranking list among the number available for a given competition must register online by midday, 21 September 2015, as indicated on the website http://www.unimi.it/studenti/matricole/77604.htm. 7

Candidates who do not register by the deadline are considered to have foregone their priority to be selected and their place becomes available for other participants in that competition, irrespective of their position in the ranking list. Candidates with qualifications gained abroad who registered online as indicated above must deliver the following documentation (show original and lodge photocopy) to the Ufficio studenti internazionali Via Santa Sofia 9/1, Milan - by 21 September 2015: Upper high school leaving certificate, translated into Italian, legalized by the authorities in the country where the qualification was issued and carrying a Declaration of Value; Certificate of enrolment at university with a list of the exams taken, or certificate of post-secondary education obtained in a non-university higher education Institute if the local education system provides less than 12 years of schooling; Certificate of academic eligibility if provided for in the country of origin; Copy of valid permit to stay (only for non-eu citizens). Verification of the validity of qualifications gained abroad is conducted on presentation of the official documents. Until then, candidates are admitted to the programme conditionally and may be excluded from the ranking list if they prove not to have the necessary qualifications. Art. 12 Selection from ranking lists If the place winners do not register by 21 September 2015, the vacant places are filled by the following procedure: - for degree courses in Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, places are assigned by allowing all candidates who passed the admission exam for either degree course to register, irrespective of their position in the ranking list; - for the other degree courses, places are assigned by allowing all candidates in the corresponding ranking list to register, irrespective of their position. The number of vacant places will be notified at www.unimi.it - Servizi online Sifa Graduatorie ammissione corsi di laurea (http://www.unimi.it/hpsifa/nonprofiledpage_100.html) on 23 September 2015. Registration will open again from 23 September to midday 30 September 2015 but only until all places are assigned. Even after this registration period, any vacant places can be assigned in chronological order of application to the Student administration offices, until all available places have been assigned and in any case no later than 15 October 2015: - for Computer Science (Milan and Crema campuses), Music Information Science, Computer Science for New Media Communications, Computer Systems and Networks Security to candidates who passed the admission exam for any of these degree courses; 8

- for Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry to candidates who passed the admission exam for Biological Sciences or Natural Sciences; - for Biological Sciences and Natural Sciences to candidates who passed the admission exam for either of these degree courses; - to candidates who passed the same admission exam at another Italian university (the point score of which is certified by the CISIA certificate); - to candidates who in previous years passed admission exams indicated on the website http://www.testingressoscienze.org/test_selezione.html for degree courses to which the present competition announcement refers, whether at this or another university. Art. 13 Additional education credits Registered candidates are required to earn additional education credits (obblighi formativi aggiuntivi OFA) in relation to the chosen degree course in the following cases: - for Computer Science (Milan and Crema), Music Information Science, Computer Science for New Media Communications, Computer Systems and Networks Security, if they correctly answered less than 14/30 questions in the admission exam; - for all other degree courses, if they correctly answered less than 10/20 questions in the Basic mathematical language section. The point scores gained in the different sections will be posted, as soon as available, at http://www.scienzemfn.unimi.it/test.html Once the scores have been notified, preparatory courses will be held, followed by verification tests (on three occasions at intervals during the first semester) in which students have to demonstrate an improvement in performance; failure to pass the tests bars students from sitting for any second-year examination, unless they pass: for Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry: the exam of Mathematics foundation course Istituzioni di Matematica; for Computer Science (Milan and Crema campuses), Computer Science for New Media Communications, Computer Systems and Networks Security: the exam of Set Theory Matematica del Continuo for Music Information Science: the exam of Mathematics foundation course Istituzioni di Matematica for Biological Sciences: the exam of General Mathematics, Workshop of Mathematical and Statistical Methods, Laboratory of Computer Science; Laboratorio di Metodi Matematici e Statistici, Laboratorio di Computer Science for Natural Sciences: the exam of Mathematics foundation course Istituzioni di Matematica. 9

Art. 14 Attendance of preparatory courses Preparatory courses will be held in the period 1525 September 2015. Attendance is: compulsory for place winners in the ranking list of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry who scored less than 10/20 points in the Basic mathematical language section; strongly recommended for place winners in the ranking list of any of the other degree courses, whose point score implies the need for additional education credits (see Art. 13); strongly recommended for any candidate whose point score implies the need for additional education credits, even if not a place winner, but who intends to register, ranking list permitting; indeed there will be no subsequent possibility to attend preparatory courses.
