COURSE DESCRIPTIONS BUS 640 Quantitative and Analytical Fundamentals for Finance This course details the fundamentals of financial accounting and finance, as well as microeconomic concepts, and touches on quantitative skills needed to pursue the Master of Science in Finance degree or other master degrees that entail taking elective courses in finance. FIN 613 Intermediate Corporate Finance and Investments This course builds on finance fundamentals to provide a more advanced treatment of topics in investment theories, portfolio selection, and corporate finance. FIN 614 International Investments and Valuation This course uses an interdisciplinary approach, between finance and accounting, to build knowledge of international finance, financial statement analysis, and company and project valuation. FIN 615 Financial Decision Making This course focuses on decision making theory and behavioral finance, and includes case applications to apply theory to topics such as agency problems, conflicts of interest, and money management. Students learn about the psychological, social, and cultural determinants of suboptimal managerial behavior and how those common mistakes could be avoided. FIN 616 Applied Corporate Finance This course covers topics in corporate finance and business law, which include the financial and legal aspects of mergers, leasing, and financial strategy. FIN 617 Derivatives and Financial Modeling This course explores modeling applications for corporate finance and investments topics, with a focus on financial options, futures, swaps, and financial engineering. It includes theory and applications of derivative securities in equity, fixed income, foreign currency, commodity, and credit markets. FIN 618 Quantitative Finance and Microstructure This course provides a cross-disciplinary coverage of statistics, optimization, and operations management. The tools developed form the basis of modern analytical business management. FIN 619 Alternative Investments/ Advanced Portfolio This course teaches students how to develop and present a business plan, and also enhances oral and written business communications skills. Students will write the plan, identify critical issues, develop reasoned positions, display data, and use visual aids effectively to solicit funding from a hypothetical investor group.
