About the Department of Industrial Engineering The Department of Industrial Engineering at the J.B. The Master of Engineering with specialization in Engineering Management (MEEM) is a professional degree offered by the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. Offered 100% online, the program has been developed to meet the needs of practicing engineers who find themselves performing line or staff managerial functions in technological enterprises. The program is designed to build upon the mathematical and analytical expertise gained from prior engineering education and/or professional experience. Accreditation The University of Louisville is accredited by the Commission on the Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor, master, specialist, doctoral, and first-professional degrees (D.M.D., J.D., M.D.). 4 The MEEM Curriculum All courses in the program are taught 100% online, allowing you to attain an engineering management degree from the comfort of your home and at any time convenient for you, regardless of your current location. Note: International students will not be issued a U.S. visa to enroll in the MEEM graduate program online, since there is no on-campus attendance requirement. You can graduate with the MEEM degree within 24 months. You can also transfer up to six (6) credit hours from another regionally accredited graduate program upon approval of the MEEM Program Director. Cumulative baccalaureate grade point average of Students with cumulative baccalaureate grade-point averages between 2.50 and 2.75 may be admitted conditionally upon petition review and approval. Official transcript(s) for all post-secondary coursework. All transcripts not in English must be certified as authentic and translated verbatim in English. Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to the applicant s academic or professional capabilities. International students whose primary language is not English must show English language proficiency by attaining one of the following: Total score of 80 or higher on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based test or 6.5 or higher on the IELTS, or Successful completion of the exit examination for the advanced level of the Intensive English as a Second Language Program (IESL) at the University of Louisville, or Demonstration of a degree award from an acceptable English language institution. 6 Tuition & Financial Aid Tuition for the Master of Engineering in Engineering Management is one of the most affordable in the state and in the nation. Tuition for online courses is the same for both in-state and out-of-state students. Cost per credit hour = $660 Financial Aid Graduate students enrolled in the Master of Engineering in Engineering Management at UofL are eligible for federal financial aid in the form of unsubsidized Stafford Loans during an academic year (fall, spring and summer). Here are the steps for first-time financial aid applicants: 1. Assemble your tax and asset information, such as your IRS forms, W2s, 1040s, etc. 2. Go to to file your FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Be sure to apply for your PIN during the FAFSA filing process. Use the PIN to electronically sign your FAFSA. UofL FAFSA school code is Once your FAFSA is processed by the U.S. Department of Education, you will be sent a Student Aid Report (SAR). If you filed electronically, the SAR will be sent to you via . If you filed by paper or did not provide an address, the SAR will be sent to you by mail. 4. Review the SAR for comments and incorrect information. If accurate, keep the SAR for your records. If you find any errors, you can correct them by returning the paper SAR or by making corrections to a processed FAFSA online. If you used estimated tax return information when completing the FAFSA, remember to update your FAFSA with actual tax information by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool after you file your federal income tax return. Graduate students do not qualify for departmental funding or financial aid (from J.B. Speed School of Engineering). The biggest benefit of online learning is that you can work to earn your degree from your own home while raising a family, working full-time or experiencing particular life circumstances that make commuting to campus difficult or impossible. 2. How is online learning different from being in a classroom? At UofL you are taught by the same world-class faculty as our on-campus students. You read the same books, do many of the same assignments and earn the same degree. The biggest difference is that you are able to do it in your own time and in a way that best fits your learning and lifestyle. 3. Can I receive credit for graduate courses completed at another institution? Earned equivalent graduate credit may be transferred from regionally accredited institutions that offer advanced degrees. Generally, the maximum number of semester hours transferable, upon request, is 6 (six). 4. What bachelor s degrees, other than engineering, are acceptable for admission in the MEEM program? A Bachelor of Science degree or its equivalent in engineering or related scientific field is required. Acceptable degrees may include physics, mathematics, chemistry, biochemistry and computer science. 7
