Summary Tomás Laurenzo is an artist, designer, researcher and computer engineer, born and based in Montevideo, Uruguay. He works as Associate Professor (full-time, tenured) at the Computer Science dept. of Universidad de la República (UDELAR, University of the Republic of Uruguay), as Research Associate of the Psychology School, as a Visiting Professor at the Architecture School of UDELAR, and independently. He is also Research Fellow at Microsoft Research. He holds a Masters of Science, a Computer Engineer degree and a Bachelor in Computer Science degree; his Masters thesis titled New media art has been considered a pioneering work in Uruguay. He is PhD candidate, advised by Dr. Franco Robledo (UDELAR) and Dr. Álvaro Cassinelli (University of Tokyo). Since 2001 he works for UDELAR, where he is Head of the Engineering School s Medialab (Laboratorio de Medios), and leads the areas of New Media Art and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). He has performed academic activities at other local and international institutions: as Guest Researcher at Brunel University West London, Visiting Scholar at Carnegie Mellon University, invited professor at the ALFA academic network of the European Union, Invited Lecturer at ORT and IUAS Uruguayan Universities, and Research Intern at Microsoft Research and at the INRIA Institute of France. He has publications in the areas of New media art, HCI, Software Engineering and Mobile Robotics; his artworks and performances have been shown and awarded both locally and internationally. He also has a rich experience in the private sector, working or having worked for more than twenty companies and institutions from Uruguay, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Mexico and USA, in the areas of HCI, Web Development, Web design and Software Development.
