IBA INFORMATION GUIDELINES ON TRAINING, BUSINESS ADVISORY AND EMPOWERMENT SERVICES FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS What is IBA? IBA is an acronym for the INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS ADVISERS. IBA was incorporated on 27th April, 2011 as non-profit organization with the purpose of conducting training and seminars to enable trainees become self-employed business managers and consultants. The Institute also got government approval for youth development, empowerment, capacity building and other welfare programmes. IBA WAR CRY Offering services to people without counting cost. IBA MISSION To facilitate Business Education and Training, for creation of job opportunities, resuscitation of dying companies and uplifting of growing business organizations. IBA VISION To be Nigeria s Professional Institute of First Choice, in activating practical business strategies and providing solutions to business challenges facing companies and small businesses. IBA TRAINING & BUSINESS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME FOR EXISTING AND NEW SMALL BUSINESSES So many people in low-wealth communities and cities have big business dreams and unfortunately no way to activate their business dreams simply because of non-availability of start-up capital and limited access to bank business funding services. The IBA training and business empowerment programme is designed for aspiring business owners with limited access to business related training and start-up capital. The programme also resolves business capital roadblocks for existing small businesses. At the Institute of Business Advisers, we combine business training and business finance counseling with business capital empowerment/grants for both existing small business owners and business dreamers who are ready to take off their businesses in case they have access to funding. 3
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME The main objective of the programme is to promote our clients business success and further enhance the creation of job opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs. Apart from the business capital empowerment we also provide the following services to small business owners: Business Skills Acquisition & Entrepreneurship Training Programme. Small Business Management Coaching & Counseling. Access to Capital Seminar including Agric Business Loan Scheme from Federal Government. Credit Counseling and Management Workshop. Business Sales & Marketing Counseling. Access to direct lenders without collateral nationwide. Access to bank loan packaging assistance. Business name registration and incorporation guide. General business advisory services. Upon meeting up with the business training requirements of IBA, existing and aspiring business owners will have access to non-repayable capital empowerment at zero interest rate. RANGE OF BUSINESS CAPITAL EMPOWERMENT After small business management training, each candidate can access between N144,000 to N500,000 per annum or more for active training group coordinators. The Institute does not run business training for single individual but in training groups, while each training group is to be assembled by a training group coordinator. Each training group is made up of minimum of six candidates, while the Training group coordinator will be qualified for business capital empowerment between N12,000 to N40,000 for each training group coordinated. The specific amount to be approved is at the discretion of the company, but the minimum is N12,000 per training group cordinated. The business training holds anytime within the month depending on the arrangement of the parties involved. TRAINING VENUE There are three venue options for the training as follows: (I) Online (II) Class Based (III) Home Based Each candidate has right to choose any of the three above. However, class and home based venue trainings are subject to final agreement of the batch coordinator and the institute representative. 4
ELIGIBILITY FOR SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TRAINING (I) Each applicant must be a business owner or about to commence any form of legal business. (II) Evidence of readiness for the training via completion of training & business empowerment application form of N200 only. ELIGIBILITY FOR BUSINESS CAPITAL EMPOWERMENT (I) The candidate must have participated in at least one training course during the year. (II) The candidate must have coordinated at least one training group of business partners or candidates for the small business training course. (III)Each trainee in the group must have purchased any recommended books/ebooks, the maximum amount to be set aside for books/ebooks is N3000. INSTALLMENTAL DISBURSEMENT OF BUSINESS CAPITAL EMPOWERMENT Each new training group qualifies the group coordinator for one installment disbursement. For any training group coordinator to have access to business empowerment between N144,000 to N500,000,he/she must have successfully coordinated at least twelve new training groups for the small business management training within the year. LANGUAGE OF TRAINING DELIVERY The official language for training delivery is English. However, local languages like Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa etc can also be used for the benefits of small business owners with limited educational background. However, both English and any local language can run side by side with the aid of local language translator. CONVERSION OF GROUP MEMBER TO TRAINING GROUP COORDINATOR For any candidate to have access to business capital empowerment, he/she must have converted from a training group member to a training group coordinator after participating in at least one business training course within the year. To get out of the training group, trainee must donate one new candidate to the training group coordinator as replacement for himself before forming a new training group where he will be the new training group coordinator. Any new training group coordinator who fail to donate a replacement to his initial training group will forfeit the privilege of trainee donation from his own co-ordinated group(s). 5

VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND BUSINESS CAPITAL EMPOWERMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. Lack of vocational training is one of the factors responsible for the snail speed growth of the economy of many African countries including Nigeria. The vocational training and empowerment programme of IBA is designed to increase learning opportunities and provide non-repayable start-up capital for aspiring entrepreneurs. In order to transform our communities, the programme will focus on two main areas: (1) Vocational training/small scale business (2) Non-repayable start-up capital. In a bid to make long lasting impact in the lives of individuals who deserved to be empowered. The Institute of Business Advisers (IBA) deem it fit to engage in vocational training programmes in partnership with qualified Professionals and Corporate Organizations nationwide to facilitate 8
optimal vocational training to financially vulnerable and unemployed individuals across the country. In partnership with corporate organizations and professionals in each field we run programmes in various vocations as follows: Various soap making business Dish washing & fabric wash liquid soap Event decoration & management Candle production Hair & body cream production Weeding cakes Bead weaving Bead stringing Snacks & various fruit juice production. e.t.c For instance small scale soap making business has developed into mega businesses examples of which are: PZ Nigeria PLC and Lever Brothers Nigeria PLC among other big soap making industries. It should be noted that the soap making business is not limited to only multi-million business organizations alone, it is also within the reach of every interested individuals with limited start-up capital as low as #10,000.00 for soap chemicals and other ingredients. Owning a factory is not compulsory before anyone can start soap production of any type, it is an home based business. To be honest, soap can be produced in a single room of a building or at the backyard provided the chemicals are not within the reach of children. Soap making business is also good for retired men and women who are no longer in active fulltime service. Note : All vocational trainings are not carried out independently by The Institute of Business Advisers but in partnership with professionals in each field. 9
TRAINING DURATION AND COST IMPLICATION The duration for our vocational training depends on each vocation. However all vocational training durations fall between 1-5 days maximum. We request a token payment of #200 for application form, the vocational training is free however, participant may be required to provide part-cost of training materials and chemicals to the maximun amount of #3000. This is important to establish seriousness and commitment since only business minded and serious candidates are expected to participate in the programme. ELIGIBILITY OF VOCATIONAL TRAINEES FOR BUSINESS CAPITAL EMPOWERMENT (i) The candidate must have participated in at least one vocational training or refresher training within the year. (ii) The candidate must have coordinated at least one new training group of vocational trainees to be eligible for each installment of vocational business capital empowerment. (iii) Each applicant/trainee must have purchased any recommended materials or ingredients to be used for the vocational training. The maximum amount to be set aside for this is #3000. Note : Waiver for any of the conditions above is at the discretion of the programme coordinators. METHOD OF DISBURSEMENT OF CAPITAL EMPOWERMENT AFTER TRAINING All disbursements will be paid directly into the beneficiaries bank account. However, the beneficiary can order disbursement on his/her behalf into a family member s bank account. Note that only family member s bank account bearing the same surname with the beneficiary will be honored. IMPORTANT INFORMATION The Institute of Business Advisers is not a bank or Microfinance Institution and we do not collect deposits or grant loans to our registered trainees or anyone. 10
All that we do under training and business empowerment programme is to assist small businesses with zero interest business capital empowerment without the heavy burden of repayment. We use proceeds of our other professional training programmes and donations from local and international partners/ associates to promote our empowerment and capacity building objectives, the purpose for which the institute got approved. The programme is aimed at joining hands together to build a framework for a sustainable business development for our country. DISCLAIMER The Institute of Business Advisers will not be liable for any payment made to any individual person regarding this programme. Candidates who intend to participate in this programme must not pay any amount by hand to any individual except only for the N200 training application form. Training books/ebooks purchase as advised must be paid directly to the publisher s bank account to avoid any fraudulent intent from any individual. UNCOVERING CONSULTING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN RECORD NUMBERS When times get tough and jobs dry up, what millions do to survive and live far above average is the business of consulting. World Bank report on Nigeria showed that between 50-70% of our graduates at present are unemployed. Nigeria will need to create 24 million jobs in the next ten years to keep unemployment at half. Based on this, The Institute of Business Advisers offers business consulting training and career to mitigate against the growing menace of unemployment. While many businesses are based on selling products and services, consulting firms and individual consultants sell knowledge whether it is Management Consulting, IT Consulting, Marketing Consulting or something else. Worldwide, consultants come in two flavours as follows: Experienced industry people who have worked for years in corporate organizations and finally switch to consulting business either after retirement or on part-time basis while still in paid employment. Inexperienced younger consultants, mostly fresh graduates who embrace consulting career through consulting business training and internship programme like the one provided by IBA. Most people choose consulting career because of the opportunities, lifestyle and the remuneration of the business. Many also prefer consulting business because of the pride of being a consultant. BUILDING PEOPLE FOR THE BUSINESS OF CONSULTING VIA: FREE CONSULTING BUSINESS TRAINING The Institute of Business Advisers offers a robust competency-based learning curriculum for aspiring business consultants. The practice of Consulting Business Training provides aspiring Consultants with a suite of opportunities to develop themselves along clear consulting career paths and areas of specialization. The training courses are delivered with the correct blend of training delivery methodologies such as class-based at Ibadan, Oyo State and via e-learning. The training programme is one month duration either for class-based or online. The programme is free while various course materials (e-books) will be provided free of charge. However, there are other two course materials that each candidates must purchase from Eduprof Publisher both at the rate of N3,000. The course materials are: Marketing Approaches to Consulting Business and also Business Analysis & Ethics for Business Consultants. 13
BUILDING PEOPLE FOR THE BUSINESS OF CONSULTING VIA: PAID INTERNSHIP IN ANY CHOSEN PART OF THE COUNTRY After one month practice of consulting business training, interested trainees are offered Training Business Consulting paid Internship for six months in any chosen part of the country with either option of full time conversion to a Consulting Job with IBA or take-off an independent consulting business after internship. Successful interns after six months programme will have access to non-repayable consulting business capital empowerment subject to their average performance evaluation score at the end of the internship programme Further details will be made available to all interested candidates after the compulsory one month practice of consulting business training. BUILDING PEOPLE FOR THE BUSINESS OF CONSULTING VIA: NON-REPAYABLE CONSULTING START-UP CAPITAL EMPOWERMENT This offer is only applicable for candidates who successfully complete the six months paid internship. The six months average percentage performance will determine the percentage of capital empowerment to be granted. Candidates who only participated in the practice of consulting business training without taking internship are not eligible for the consulting business capital empowerment offer. QUALIFICATION Minimum qualification is B.Sc./HND in any discipline. Also, candidates must not be above 38 years of age.
