1.3. Architecture Overview The diagram below shows the Uila Management and Analytics System architecture and its relationship with Uila vst and vic monitoring VMs. 1.1.1. Virtual Architecture The core of Uila platform is a Big Data store and analytic engine that is designed from the ground up to scale- out to accommodate from small to large data center deployments with thousands of servers, to scale- in to record data in minute resolution, maintain history data while maintaining real time responsiveness. Built- in redundancy offers high availability, removes downtime, and reduces maintenance overhead. The Virtual Information Controller (vic) is the integration conduit to VMware vcenter. The vic retrieves your infrastructure configuration as a template to build Uila monitoring domain and to streamline deployment. The vic collects network, storage and compute performance metrics that are maintained by vcenter, combined with data from Virtual Smart Taps (vsts), and then transit to Uila Big Data store through an encrypted SSL channel. Virtual Smart Taps (vsts) are deployed in the host as a small foot- print and efficiently designed guest VM with embedded Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology to identify Copyright Uila, Inc. 2014, 2015. unique applications and their attributes. vsts measure application response time and collect network performance data in metadata form. No packet payload is examined and stored, thus removing the risk of exposing sensitive data. Copyright Uila, Inc. 2014, 2015. All Rights Reserved. 7

2. Getting Started 1.1. System Requirements Uila Server software can be installed on a single Virtual Machine directly on your own server that has VMware ESXi installed. The system requirements are depending on how many application VM s you plan to monitor within your data center. The single server configuration takes advantage of the Hadoop implementation that allows the support of much larger numbers of VMs, longer history data retention along with high availability and redundancy. Contact Uila if you would like to deploy an on- premise Uila Management and Analytics System that supports over 1,000 VMs. VM Spec. on Customer's Host # of VM Monitored vcpu (Cores) Virtual Memory Local Storage 100 1 (4) 16 GB 200 GB 250 1 (4) 24 GB 400 GB 500 1 (4) 36 GB 800 GB 1,000 2 (8) 64 GB 1.6 TB Note: 1. VMware ESXi 5.x or higher required on the server. 2. Storage MUST be local or direct attached. Network storage is not recommended due to Uila s Hadoop implementation. 3. Monitoring 100 VM s is the minimum requirement for Uila Server On-Premise deployment. 4. The storage allocation is based on keeping records for 180 days on average storage consumption. If storage space is at a premium, we recommend you monitor the Storage consumption rate weekly. 1.2. System Pre-requisites 1. Verify adequate resources in the previous section are available. 2. vcenter administrative access is required to make configuration changes, deploy and setup UMAS, and Uila vic and vst virtual machines. 3. Static IP addresses pre-assigned, one for the UMAS and one for vic. 4. For each of the vst s, which can be either static IP address or auto- allocated via DHCP 5. Pre-configure your network to open TCP and UDP ports to allow communications between Uila sub- systems as illustrated in the chart below. Use the Port # assignments that are identified with On-Prem UMAS on the right side of the picture. Copyright Uila, Inc. 2014, 2015. All Rights Reserved. 9
