Written Exmintion The written exmintion lsts 140 minutes nd onsists of the subtests Reding Comprehension, Lnguge Elements nd Writing. There is 20 minute brek fter the subtest Lnguge Elements. Before strting the exmintion, the ndidtes should fill in the informtion setion on the Answer Sheet S30. In order to prevent misunderstndings, the invigiltor writes the nme of the exmintion entre, the dte nd the six-digit test version number on the bord. The invigiltor lso needs to inform the ndidtes tht ditionries, mobile phones or other eletroni devies re not llowed (Instrutions 15 nd 16). After the ndidtes hve filled in the Answer Sheet S30, the invigiltor should hnd out the test booklets. One this hs been ompleted, the ndidtes hve 90 minutes for the subtests Reding Comprehension nd Lnguge Elements. The strting nd ending times should be written on the

After the brek, the Listening subtest begins by plying the udio CD. At the end of the Listening subtest, the ndidtes should seprte pge two from the Answer Sheet S30 nd hnd it in to the invigiltor. The ndidtes should then ontinue with the Written Expression subtest. After 30 minutes, the invigiltor ollets pge three of the Answer Sheet S30. The written exmintion is then finished. Orl Exmintion Soring The Orl Exmintion onsists of two prts: 1) Listening Comprehension nd 2) Orl Exmintion / Speking. How long does the orl exmintion / speking tke? Speking exmintions rried out with two ndidtes tke pproximtely 20 minutes, bout 15 of whih re needed for the exm onverstion itself. The remining five minutes re used by the exminers for ssessment purposes. Individul exmintions re signifintly shorter. The very first prt, Soil Contts, is not mrked nd is ment s wrm-up only. The time llowed for exmining is divided into three prts: Prt 1 (Presenttion), whih should tke bout four minutes, Prt 2 (Disussion) nd Prt 3 (Tsk), eh of whih should tke bout five minutes. Prepring for the exmintion All ndidtes hve the opportunity to prepre individully for the three tsks of the orl exmintion / speking by using the tsk sheets. There must be n invigiltor in the preprtion room in order to ensure tht the ndidtes do not spek to eh other nd tht they do not use ny eletroni devies suh s mobile phones. (Instrutions 15 nd 16). However, ditionries re llowed during the preprtion phse. The ndidtes re llowed to tke notes during this time, whih they re llowed to use during the orl exmintion. Therefore, the exmintion enter should provide stmped pper in the preprtion room. The ndidtes re not llowed to mke mrks on the tsk sheets. Wht do the exminers do? The exminers mke sure ll time restritions re dhered to. They provide trnsition from one setion to nother nd ensure tht the ndidtes re eh given dequte time to spek. The exminers re sked to keep the mount of speking tht they do to minimum. They should only intervene when the onverstion flters, omes to hlt or is dominted by one person. In the first senrio, they should ttempt to revive the onverstion by using short utterne or question to restimulte the onverstion. In the seond senrio, they re sked to spek diretly to the less tive prtiipnt in order to reintegrte them in the onverstion. It is theoretilly possible tht both exminers intervene in order to revive fltering onverstion. However, it is reommended tht one exminer tkes the role of the interloutor nd the other the role of the ssessor. These roles should be ontinued throughout the exm onverstion. If ndidte is being tested individully, one of the exminers should tke the role of the onverstionl prtner. The exminers reord their mrks on the Sore Sheet M10 during the exmintion. Eh exminer evlutes the ndidtes performnes individully. Eh test prt is to be ssessed using the four evlution riteri for orl expression, whih mens tht eh exminer needs to mke twelve ssessments per ndidte. After the ndidtes hve left the room, the exminers ompre their ssessments. This exhnge helps the exminers to re-evlute their observtions nd to reh onsensus. Then the results re entered onto pge four of the Answer Sheet S30.
42 Informtion Additionl detils bout the orl exmintion In ll three prts of the orl exmintion, the ndidtes should strive for nturl onverstion. The exminers hve more of moderting role nd less of guiding role. The desired ourse of the onverstion should be supported by the orret seting pln. The ndidtes should be ble to see one nother lerly in order void the impulse to ontinuously look t the exminers. If the exminers re fored to intervene, they should be reful how they do this. For exmple, open questions suh s Wht do you men? or Could you explin? or restting spets tht the ndidtes hve lredy mentioned during the onverstion re very useful strtegies to omplish this.
