Meaningful Use
Meaningful Use Criteria The criteria for Meaningful Use will be staged in three steps over the course of the next five years. Stage 1 (2011, 2012 and 2013) sets the baseline for electronic data capture and information sharing. Stage 2 (will begin from 2014) Stage 3 (expected to be implemented in 2016) will continue to expand on this baseline and be developed through future rule making.
Meaningful Use Overview Through the HITECH Act, Congress established three fundamental criteria of Meaningful Use requirements: 1. Use of certified EHR technology in a meaningful manner. 2. Certified EHR technology is connected in a manner that provides for the electronic exchange of health information to improve the quality and coordination of care. 3. In using certified EHR technology, the provider submits clinical quality measures and other measures as determined by the Secretary.
