Laser Molecular Spectroscopy: Dynamics of ultrashort photophysical and photochemical reactions of gas-phase molecules, which are completed within a few tens to hundreds of femtoseconds. The study of molecular dynamics refers to the direct measurement of the deactivation times of the electronically excited molecular systems, as well as to the characterization of their intermediate electronic states and/ or structures during the reaction. The pump-probe technique used to study the evolution of the dynamics of the molecules in real time combines (multiphoton) ionization at 800/400/200 nm, after absorption in the UV/ VUV, and analysis of the respective mass and photoelectron spectra. These processes include photo-dissociation, isomerization and non radiative decay to the ground state, important for applications in physics, chemistry and biology, as well as for understanding the physical mechanisms governing fundamental problems of molecular physics.
