The McMaster community of learners is comprised of engaged students who consistently give the university high marks for its rich student life. In fact, the 2010 Globe and Mail University Report Card ranks McMaster among the top schools in Canada for overall student satisfaction and quality of education. MBA Program 2011-2012 Welcome to DeGroote The question of why you want to do your MBA is often a straight forward one. However, in selecting an MBA school another question to ask yourself is how do you want to do your MBA? 6 At the DeGroote School of Business, your MBA will be collaborative. Our students support and challenge each other, working, helping, studying and playing together. Our alumni, staff and faculty invest in developing you from an MBA student to a market-ready graduate. The experiences you have during your MBA at DeGroote working closely with teams of students, alumni, faculty, staff, corporate partners and community members will prepare you for the challenges and opportunities you will face in the workplace as members and leaders of teams. Michael Eisner in his book Working Together writes about the connections that make us extraordinarily productive and much more successful than we would be alone. These connections are what you will gain at DeGroote. Along the way, you will also fulfill the goal of why you took your MBA in the first place. You may want a career change, to learn more business skills always valuable no matter where you end up working, to build a foundation that will allow you to start your own company, or maybe you want to work internationally and feel the MBA is your ticket. Or it may just be that you want to get a better job and to make more money. In exit exams conducted for the past eight years, DeGroote MBA students have averaged in the 85th percentile in North America. The success of our alumni is another testament to the quality of a DeGroote education. The MBA Co-op class of 2010 on average experienced a 190 per cent increase in salary following graduation from DeGroote as compared to their salaries prior to entering the MBA program and 90 per cent of graduates were employed three months after convocation. Ultimately, the question you have to ask yourself is where do you want to do your MBA? I hope that the answer to that is at the DeGroote School of Business. Dr. Bob McNutt, Acting Dean DeGroote School of Business

MBA Program 2011-2012 22 Health Services Management Management Information Systems (Not available in the Traditional Full-time option) The only MBA program of its type in the country, the DeGroote HSM specialization has become Canada s gold standard for graduate health management education. HSM combines expertise found in the DeGroote School of Business with hands-on training gained through work experience in either public or private health care organizations. The competent professional manager is a critical element in the framework of effective and efficient delivery of health services. If you are a co-op student, this solid MBA training may include selected graduate electives in health sciences or medical sciences, coupled with a range of work term experiences in the health sector designed to achieve specific educational objectives. If you are a Part-time student already employed as a manager in the sector, the application of the core MBA curriculum, along with the required courses and electives in health sciences, provide the skills to rapidly grow in the job while learning. DeGroote's alliance with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives (CCHSE) allows HSM students to fast track their Certified Health Executive designation while earning their MBA degree. An information system is an organized and interrelated set of components, which includes information technology and people's activities, to support operations, management, and decision-making. Information systems have become an integral part of doing business. The Management Information Systems (MIS) specialization provides you with the knowledge and skills you need to shape the effective implementation and use of information systems to facilitate the strategic objectives of organizations. Today, more and more business transactions and exchanges between enterprises are conducted with the support of electronic technologies. Organizations of all sizes must consider the creative use of electronic technology not only for business redesign, but also for survival in the emerging global marketplace. Industry demand for professionals qualified to manage the opportunities and challenges posed by this technology continues to rise dramatically. The DeGroote Management Information Systems specialization will provide you with the requisite knowledge to act as a consultant and/or analyst. Through our alliance with SAP, the world's leading vendor of enterprise software, you have access to state-of-the-art SAP R/3 Enterprise software. Enterprise software, such as SAP, allows companies to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace by integrating all business processes and optimizing the utilization of available resources. This is an expedited way to achieve a highly desired certification that complements the MBA degree and makes you even more marketable.

Co-op Full-time Accelerated Part-time www.degroote.mcmaster.ca/mba Management of Innovation and New Technology (MINT) Strategic Business Valuation 23 The innovative commercialization of science and technology in such sectors as pharmaceuticals, biotech, aerospace, telecommunications, software and electronics is revolutionizing how business is done. This specialization is intended for those who want to drive that revolution. It provides sufficient flexibility in the choice of electives to allow you to focus on the management of innovation, the management of science and technology in the industries mentioned above, or to pursue a customized mix of the two. Although many students with technical backgrounds take this specialization because it provides a unique way to leverage technical skills, a substantial number of students without technical backgrounds select it because it provides generalized capabilities for managing innovation. You may also take a minor in MINT that provides an excellent opportunity to add the innovation edge to your portfolio, enhancing the marketability of your area or specialization. The Strategic Business Valuation specialization is intended to train financial professionals in the best practices for business valuation. The focus is on inter-disciplinary models as well as investigative techniques and state-of-the-art approaches. The purpose is to profile firms accurately in order to identify those that meet rigorous standards of excellence and growth. The underlying philosophy of this approach is that wise investments are made for the long run rather than for quick returns through rapid buying and selling. Such long-term financial health and growth can only be assessed through a complete analysis of the firm.
