Economic Gardening Economic gardening is a local or regional economic development strategy that focuses on supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses instead of "economic hunting" - attempting to attract new businesses from outside the area. The idea was developed in Littleton, Colorado in the late 1980s and has since spread to many communities across the US.

Economic Gardening West Chamber of Commerce, www.westchamber.org (303) 233-5555 Amy Sherman, President & CEO The Chamber currently has 925 members. West Chamber members come from: Lakewood Wheat Ridge Golden Arvada Littleton (South Jefferson County) Denver Evergreen Cities throughout the metro area Jefferson County Business Resource website: jeffcobrc.org

Economic Gardening Chamber of Commerce started Jefferson County Business Resource in 2005 Partnership between the County, five cities, the workforce center, and the community college. Funding for annual operations is about $125,000 per year. After two years in 2007 they spun the program off into a 501(c)3 for funding purposes. The project leverages the communities existing investments in GIS to foster economic development, empower developers and investors with information, and improve regional economic development capacity. The project is organized and managed by the Spokane Regional Site Selector Consortium. The Consortium is an open group of public and private organizations committed to the creation and ongoing maintenance of the Spokane Regional Site Selector. As an open consortium, it can be expanded to include new members and will actively solicit new members during its existence. Current Consortium members are: City of Spokane, Spokane County, City of Liberty Lake, Greater Spokane Incorporated, and Avista Utilities. The Consortium is staffed and managed by Washington State University.
