A strong team for economical concrete paving Slipform Paver SP 1500

Where concrete paving is concerned, this work train is a fast train Two layers, one machine Rarely does the technical and economical potential of a technology stand apart from the competition as distinctly as it does in our proven SP 1500 slipform paver. Comprising three separate units, the bottom-layer paver, the top-layer paver and the TCM texture curing machine, the SP 1500 slipform paver is a true all-rounder for placing twolayer concrete slabs up to 15.25 m. The sophisticated concrete paving method, resulting high daily production rates with minimum personnel requirements, simple transport of the machine and variable settings enable you to lay down high-quality concrete pavements in record time while simultaneously cutting costs.

Save time and money starting with the bottom concrete layer A reliable paving method for superior results Deposit the concrete for the bottom layer in front of the SP 1500, and the machine will take care of the rest virtually automatically. The smooth placement of the bottom concrete layer can best be described as follows: A truck dumps the concrete in front of the bottom-layer paver, which spreads it evenly across the entire width using a spreading plough. As the machine passes over the concrete, a robust slipform mould shapes the concrete true to cross-section, line and level, while electric vibrators ensure total compaction. At the same time, dowel bars and tie bars are inserted in the bottom layer with high precision. The result is a cost-efficient, homogeneous concrete layer: an ideal foundation for the top concrete layer.

The short distance between the crawler tracks and the concrete pavement means lower costs when producing the hydraulically bound base course. Four easy-to-manoeuvre crawler tracks ensure stable positioning and good traction, regardless of ground conditions. No need to interrupt production: Automatic insertion of dowel bars The top-layer concrete is conveyed over the top of the bottom-layer paver The dowel bar inserter remains above the paving site as the machine travels Total automation helps you exploit all cost-cutting potential Another winning feature of the SP 1500 is the patented, automated insertion of dowel and tie bars into the pre-compacted bottom-layer concrete. The dowel bars are inserted parallel, the tie bars perpendicular to the pavement by means of vibration. The highlight of the process: The dowel bar inserter mounted on the machine can move in the direction of paving, meaning that it remains above the paving site without interrupting machine travel until the dowel bars are accurately inserted into the concrete. This ensures a continuous workflow and makes it possible to pave large volumes of concrete.

The next step: Wet-on-wet paving of the top layer The second concrete layer is paved right after the first Highly practical and functional solutions are put into practice also when paving the top concrete layer. The ingeniously simple feature of this process: A conveyor transports the concrete for the top layer over the top of the bottom-layer paver and deposits it on the freshly paved bottom layer of concrete, in front of the top-layer paver. The top-layer paver travels steadily over the concrete, spreading it across the entire width with a spreading plough. As the machine passes over, the top layer of concrete is paved and compacted in a wet-on-wet process. Finally, a heavy-duty oscillating beam and super smoother provide for an optimum surface finish.

Thanks to the high degree of automation, the team of operators can focus their attention on monitoring the paving process. Conveying the concrete over the top of the bottom-layer paver prevents disturbances on adjoining traffic lanes. The use of a grade line or slab tracer ensures a uniform and level surface. 8// 9

The SP 1500 is a cut above in this category as well because it delivers outstanding results. The top-layer concrete is paved wet-onwet and bonds perfectly with the bottom layer. As the machine continues to travel, the oscillating beam and downstream super smoother move over the pavement, with the oscillating beam oscillating perpendicular and the super smoother oscillating parallel to the direction of travel. This combination reliably produces the desired surface texture.

From a single supplier: Texture curing for optimum results Engineered right down to the last detail The paving train is equipped with a wealth of functional, time-saving solutions. One of these is Wirtgen's wellproven texture curing machine which is used behind the two concrete pavers. To achieve optimum skid resistance of the surface, it draws a burlap cloth or a transverse brush over the freshly paved concrete. For effective protection against premature evaporation and cracking, a special liquid is finally sprayed over the entire width of the concrete pavement.
