Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the Doctor of Education Program at Columbus State University What are the prominent features of the Educational Doctor of Education Program in Curriculum and Leadership? Cohort approach: Everyone in the program begins the program and works through the program together. Once students reach an area of specialization, they pursue coursework and research in that area. This approach provides better quality program, creates an opportunity to build a network of associates that will last a lifetime, and allows for close collaboration and communication among professors and candidates. Early emphasis on research skills: Prospective Degree Candidates learn to apply the skills necessary to perform rigorous research studies in the field. The Columbus State University College of Education and Health Professions is committed to the development of educators with this level of expertise through the implementation of a new Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Leadership. This program will be offered as a cooperative effort through the Departments of Counseling, Foundations, and Leadership (CFL) and Teacher Education both housed in the College of Education. What is the focus of the Curriculum and Leadership program? The focus of the Curriculum and Leadership Program is the development of professional educators with the research skills necessary to improve student achievement in schools. This expertise is critical given the need for leadership frameworks, curriculum models, and instructional practices that are supported by research. Each community, school system, school, and organization is different in terms of demographics, population, needs, and goals.
