2015 Schools Spectacular Instrumental Ensembles Thank you for your application to participate in the 2015 Schools Spectacular. This audition is for the Schools Spectacular Instrumental Music Ensembles ONLY. Students wishing to nominate for the 2016 NSW Public Schools Instrumental Ensembles are required to apply separately. Nominations for the 2016 NSW Public Schools Instrumental Ensembles will be available shortly on The Arts Unit website. This year there are no live auditions for the Schools Spectacular Instrumental Music Ensembles. All auditions are to be filmed and submitted via YouTube. The audition will consist of: 2. Prepared piece own choice 3. Prepared piece set excerpt You should record your audition in the above order. Please introduce yourself by name and school at the start of the recording and announce the scales and articulations you are performing (e.g. I will now perform F Major, 2 octaves, all tongued) as well as the name of your prepared piece - own choice. The purpose of this new form of audition is to streamline the process for all concerned. You can record your audition at your leisure and as outlined later it is a very simple procedure to upload to YouTube. This form of audition will give you ample opportunity to demonstrate your musicianship and technique without the pain of having to organise a specific audition time and battle your way through traffic to get to The Arts Unit. Please note that the quality of the recording will not be part of your assessment. Irrespective of how clear, or otherwise, the audio quality is of your audition the only thing will be assessed will be the quality of your playing. With regards to those of you who wish to audition for both for the Spectacular Orchestra and Stage Band please note the following. If you are auditioning for a place in both ensembles please record 2 pieces, 1 of each style and only one set of scales. You will also need to perform both a classical and a jazz set piece (which can be downloaded from our website on Friday 12 September). *If you are auditioning for a place in Orchestra this should be a classical piece. If you are auditioning for a place in Stage Band (this applies to trumpet and trombone only) your piece should be in a Jazz style.

Submission of your audition recording is due no later than Monday 21 September 2015. Please read carefully the How to upload footage to YouTube document from our website. Your YouTube link should be emailed to SchoolsSpectacular@det.nsw.edu.au not to Steve Williams or Lindsay Pringle. For further information please contact: Stephen Williams Lindsay pringle steve.williams14@det.nsw.edu.au lindsay.pringle1@det.nsw.edu.au We look forward to receiving your audition.
