About the IMI The IMI is the only organization in the world to transcend local jurisdictions to develop global, professional standards for experienced mediators, advocates and others involved in collaborative dispute resolution and negotiation processes. IMI also convenes stakeholders, promotes understanding and disseminates skills, all in a non-service provider capacity. IMI competes with no one because it provides no billable services. IMI Global Accreditation Global professional standards exist when high practice standards are developed, tested and implemented consistently cross-border by recognized, professional experts. This is achieved in IMI through the Independent Standards Commission (ISC), a 70+ strong body of Mediators, Users, Judiciary, Providers, Trainers, and Educators from 27 countries. Standards developed by the ISC are applied by service providers approved by the ISC to run Qualifying Assessment Programs (QAPs) to qualify competent, experienced mediators for IMI certification. At the date of April 2013 there are only 27 QAPs, including CONCILIA, with more in the pipeline and almost 400 IMI Certified Mediators in 45 countries. INTERNATIONAL NETWORK AIA European Network of Mediation Centres CONCILIA is pleased to introduce the AIA European Network of Mediation Centres (the Network). The Network has been created to increase the quality of mediation as well as to promote and encourage its use to legal practitioners and the general public. It is AIA s view that, even though the benefits of mediation are generally accepted among legal practitioners, many still opt for litigation, because it is what the client wants, it is the way we know best or because of a lack of their own direct experience leading to it is the only way. The AIA and Members of the Network believe that more can be done to improve this by joining forces in order to achieve our common goal: the establishment of access to quality information and services for the comprehensive range of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in general, and mediation, in particular, as a primary means of dispute resolution. The Network was created in order to serve two purposes. On the one hand, it is aimed at putting in touch the Members of the Network and keeping them acquainted with the activities of their sibling Centres throughout Europe and around the globe, so that they can work together in achieving their common goal. On the other hand, this Network was created to share information concerning mediation and the Network with the general public, business and professional advisers in order to increase public awareness.

The training is professionally run thanks to the consolidated experience of the tutors who also have valid long-term experience as mediators. The courses we offer are mainly characterized by the effectiveness of the training method, the result of years of research and experience gained from the countless mediation procedures handled. The method is based on dialogue-based learning, in which students are constantly encouraged to be active participants. The reference model is the one used by Harvard University in the USA. The courses for mediators are structured in four levels, and are the main channel for the acquisition of a theoretical and practical approach to the subject. Introductory level basic course: designed to introduce participants to the theory and practice of ADR, analyze the institutional and legislative framework of which it forms part, provide theoretical and practical training designed to develop mediators powers of analysis and strategic management, and to make each mediator aware of his or her personal style. One of the topics dealt with during the course relates to the management of structural, substantial and dynamic aspects of the mediation process, with the aim of analyzing disputes and strategically planning their management. Advanced level training: the aim is to fine-tune the skills and abilities required of mediators, and to give them the skills they need to deal with the obstacles that most frequently arise in mediation procedures. Specialization: mediators can be trained in specific areas, for example community mediation, tourism etc. Apprenticeship and coaching: mediators can be introduced to the practical aspect with the support of our experts. Special-interest courses: on request, CONCILIA organizes individual training modules designed to explore specific areas or consolidate the skills acquired in previous courses.
