The City of Rome Roma caput mundi Rome was founded on 21 April 753 B.C. and since then the City has always played a crucial role in Italian and European history. It was the capital of the Roman Empire and the heart of Catholicism. Its historic center is listed as UNESCO patrimony, testifying the history of almost three millennia. International MD Program > The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore offers a 6-year International MD Program starting with the academic year 2013/2014. > The Program integrates learning objectives of European and US curricula. > The curriculum is designed to help students prepare the USMLE step 1 and step 2. Students interested in US postgraduate training will be allowed to spend their final year abroad and take part in the pre-residency programs required for their future enrolment in US residencies. > One of the most qualifying features of the Program is the full integration of basic and clinical sciences that will be achieved through a multidisciplinary approach and an early involvement in patient management which includes moral and ethical issues as well as legal responsibilities which are at the basis of the medical profession. Enrolment requirements 1. A High School Diploma (minimum 12 years of education) with Certified Transcripts issued by an Italian Consulate and a valid Study Visa; 2. Admittance to the Program requires passing the admission test (September 2013). English language requirements English language certification is not necessary for the admission test but is required for enrolment. Candidates whose first language is not English (other than those presenting proof of having been educated in an English speaking school for the two years preceding enrolment) are required to provide evidence of English Language knowledge satisfying the following scores: IELTS 6.5; TOEFL IBT 85; TOEFL Computer Based 225; TOEFL Paper Based 565; CAMBRIDGE ESOL CAE C; CAMBRIDGE ESOL CPE.
Admission requirements for foreign students > Foreign students must comply with the following procedure in order to have all the necessary documentation for enrolling in the International MD Program: 1. International students presenting foreign School Certificates or Diplomas must submit an Italian translation. Their local Italian Embassy/Consulate can help them obtain an official translation: Certified Transcripts. These documents will be needed by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore for enrolment, before admitting a student to the Program. 2. Enrolment Request: Foreign students interested in enrolling in an Italian University must produce a double copy of the A-FORM to their local Italian Diplomatic authorities when requesting documents for studying abroad. 3. Students from abroad wishing to apply to university in Italy must also submit, besides original high school diploma, academic certification stating they have passed all the exams included in the study program: - Of the first year of local university course, should the schooling system last 11 years; - Of the first two years of local university course, should the schooling system last 10 years. 4. Students with North American High School Diplomas can apply for the International MD Program at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore if they have completed 12 years of Education. To enroll at the Medical School, applicants must meet the following requirements: a) Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree; b) Two full years of the further course of College (with eligibility for admission to the third year), i.e., a full year of the further course of College (with eligibility for admission to the second year); c) To have studied specific preparatory subjects (pre-medical) during the 4-year College course; d) To have obtained the necessary grades requested for enrolment at American Medical Schools (the Institute of International Education of New York can issue the necessary admission certificate). Curriculum In order to achieve formative goals, the Medical Degree Program is organized to offer a total number of 360 University Credits (in Italian: Crediti Formativi Universitari, CFU) spread over a six year course. Sixty credits consist of activities aimed on acquiring specific professional skills. Each CFU corresponds to 12 hours of teaching. In case of professional training each credit corresponds to 17 hours.
