Crossrail s Contractors
CQI Crossrail Programme First conceived February 2012 following a visit to the CQI by my colleague Mike Kemp and myself. Came from the synergy of Crossrail requiring a greater competent/qualified Quality Manager resource and the CQI s initiative to increase their presence in the UK Construction Sector. First course commenced September 2012 with the second iteration commencing February 2013.
CQI Crossrail Programme Created jointly between Crossrail and CQI to help fill the resource gap between our need for fully qualified Quality Managers and the lack of availability in the UK market. Tailored to reflect Crossrail s requirements. Designed to be flexible for either attaining Full or Practioner Membership of the CQI.
CQI Crossrail Programme Course Modules Quality fundamentals Process design and performance improvement Internal Audit Problem solving and decision making Quality planning and construction certification Managing customer and supplier relationships Cost of quality methods & benefits Quality tools and techniques Influencing top management
CQI Crossrail Programme We have run two iterations of the course to date which 31 candidates have attended, mostly from Crossrail related Contractors. The first course has now completed and we will be celebrating the success of those candidates shortly. We are trying to arrange a third course but are struggling with numbers within the Crossrail domain.
CQI Crossrail Programme What Next? Crossrail are trialling two further courses :- Managing Quality on Site - a half day course for Contractor s Supervisory Staff The Effective Use of Our Management System - a half day workshop for Executives and Senior Managers Pilots of both these courses will be run in July. Again to make this truly effective these courses need to be adopted by the wider Construction community
CQI Crossrail Programme Conclusion Crossrail has taken a lead in the development with the CQI of construction specific QA training modules. Although we are the largest construction project in Europe our direct influence is restricted to those Contractors working for the project. To enable Crossrail to leave a legacy to the UK construction industry we need the wider construction community to build upon this initiative. We need the non Crossrail construction sector to take these courses out to the wider world. Either in their current Crossrail centric form or by tailoring them to meet your own needs.
