BROAD BASE OF TECHNOLOGY TALENT Georgia has earned a world-class reputation for excellence in information and communication technology. Some of the nation s largest and most innovative IT companies including VMware, Accenture, HP, Cisco, Oracle and Google maintain a major presence in the state. And, they re in good company. Twenty of the nation s largest companies choose Georgia as their national or global headquarters (FORTUNE 500, 2015). In addition to anchoring Georgia s technology-rich economy, this broad base of industry leaders creates a platform for true technology convergence with growth opportunities across the IT, financial technology (FinTech), health IT and media and entertainment sectors. From Education to Infrastructure, Georgia Offers a Bounty of Choices Georgia has one of the largest university systems in the U.S., and Atlanta consistently ranks among the best cities in the country for new graduates. Recognized as one of the leading centers for mobile activity and wireless concentration due to its advanced competitive infrastructure, Georgia businesses benefit from many choices of fiber and bandwidth, as well as a talent base providing more than 132,000 highly-skilled IT workers. TOP TECHNOLOGY MARKET, THIRD FASTEST-GROWING Georgia is positioned for highly favorable growth in IT jobs over the next decade (see table on right). And we offer unique advantages over other tech-saturated regions. Our major research universities and business incubation programs continue to develop promising start-ups, collaborative joint ventures and attractive investment and acquisition opportunities. For example, Atlanta-grown companies Information Security Systems/ISS (now IBM), Scientific-Atlanta (now Cisco SPVG), AirWatch, and EMS Technologies (now Honeywell) were acquired and continue to grow in this market. In 2012, David Cummings, Atlanta technology entrepreneur, announced his plans to create a community of tech innovation in a converted 103,000-square-foot building in the heart of metro Atlanta. Atlanta Tech Village serves as a proving ground for startups and scalable tech companies and is one of the fastestgrowing technology startup centers and coworking communities in the Southeast. The Atlanta Technology Village hosts more than 300 members. Companies with a large presence in Georgia, such as Southern, Coca-Cola Enterprises, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, AT&T, McKesson, ADP and Verizon Wireless recently topped ComputerWorld magazine s Top Places to Work in IT list. Georgia is strong, and getting even stronger, in the emerging tech convergence between information, finance and technology and is becoming a national leader in niche technologies such as payment processing and cybersecurity. 27% INCREASE IN ATLANTA S COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND DESIGN INDUSTRY EMPLOYMENT 2015-2025 Source: Moody s Economy.com, 2015 TOP GROWING INFORMATION INDUSTRY STATES State GEORGIA S TOP IT HEADQUARTERS Historical Growth 2010-2015 Projected Growth 2015-2025 Florida -1.3% 9.5% Texas 5.4% 8.9% Georgia 8.1% 8.0% Washington 8.4% 6.5% United States 3.0% 5.1% California 10.0% 4.7% Massachusetts 2.8% 3.3% Illinois -3.8% 3.0% New York 3.9% 2.1% New Jersey -5.2% 2.0% Pennsylvania -8.5% 1.5% Source: Moody s Economy.com, October 2015 Location Employment TSYS/Total Systems Services Inc. 2,500 Coca-Cola IT Innovation Center 2,000 Macy s Systems & Technology 1,400 UPS Supply Solutions IT (HQ) 1,200 Delta Air Lines IT Division 1,000 General Motors IT Innovation Center 1,000 SunTrust IT 1,000 Southern IT 1,000 Greenway Health LLC 900 Kaiser Permanente 900 The Weather Channel Inc.
