13 History (1999) Used a FreeBSD 3.2 PC-based router to connect to the IPv6 internet Got an IPv6 allocation from Asian Internet Interconnection Initiatives (AI3), so we opted to use dual-stack (IPv4/IPv6) 2001:200:5000::/56 and 2001:200:850::/44

15 History (2000) Made a successful connection to the 6BONE network thru a tunnel connection via Information Sciences Institute (ISI), courtesy of Bill Manning Ran IPv6 services such as DNS, SMTP, HTTPD and RIPng

17 History (2001) Arranged for a native IPv6 connection to AI3 using a satellite-based transport, and using RIPng as the routing protocol Back then, RIPng was the default routing protocol used by Kame

20 History (2002) On September, got a research grant from International Development Research Center (IDRC) of Canada to build a nationwide IPv6 testbed/research network

21 History (2002) Points of presence for IPv6 were: UPD EEE (Luzon) UPD UPCC (Luzon) CVISNet (Visayas) MSU-IIT (Mindanao)

25 History (2003) ASTI held an IPv6 workshop on 2/20/2003-2/21/2003 Workshop was attended by around 40 participants from the academe, industry and government Also gave an IPv6 talk at the Asia Pacific College on 2/26/2003

26 History (2003) Held a workshop at APC on 3/18/2003 till 3/22/2003 Attended by around 50 students

27 History (2003) ASTI becomes a Primary Member of Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) With this membership, ASTI was able to connect to APAN via a terrestrial link in order to get native IPv6 connectivity This was a 2Mbps link that was upgraded to 6Mbps -- currently it has a capacity of 155Mbps

29 History (2007) Around January of this year, ASTI launched the Philippine Open Internet Exchange (PhOpenIX) during the 23rd APAN meeting held in Manila Its the first IPv6 capable internet exchange in the country

31 Root DNS Operated by Netnod and Autonomica based in Stockholm, Sweden The only instance of a root DNS in the Philippines Increases response time for queries to the root DNS zone for networks connected to the IX

32 gtlds and cctlds On top of the root zone provided by the I-Root anycast instance of Netnod... Packet Clearing House is also mirroring a slave of the zones listed at technology/anycast.php org, info, asia, aero, mobi, biz, us, iq, cat, etc...

33 IPv6 Transit PHOpenIX is the first IX in the country to support IPv6 PREGINET will provide commodity transit for IPv6 traffic from IPv6-bilateral-peers This is made possible thru PREGINET s APAN and TEIN3 links

36 History (2008) Hosted an IPv6 summit last May 21-22, 2008 at Sofitel Hotel Event was sponsored by RayNetworks, Globe, PHNOG, APNIC and Cisco

39 History (2009) Gave an IPv6 talk at UPLB last 1/22/2009 Gave an IPv6 talk at DLSU last 3/27/2009 and 7/31/2009 Gave an IPv6 talk at UP-Miagao last 5/28/2009 Gave an IPv6 talk at PSHS-Iloilo last 5/29/2009

44 Provisions All government online services shall be IPv6- compliant within two (2) years after the effectivity of Executive Order No. 893 All government websites and online services shall be accessible using IPv4 or IPv6 terminal and infrastructure National Government Agencies (NGAs) are strongly encouraged to develop and adopt an IPv6 migration plan upon the effectivity of this Circular

45 Provisions For this purpose, all government agencies with online services must subscribe only to duly authorized Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that have the capability to support both IPv4 and IPv6 routing.

52 Current Setup All the three core routers of PREGINET is IPv6 enabled via dual stack PREGINET can allocate an IPv6 block to any connected partner that would want to test IPv6 (given that the network is doing BGP) PREGINET can announce the IPv6 block of any connected partner to APAN and TEIN3

53 Future Plans Encourage for more local networks (that do BGP) to connect to PhOpenIX Be able to give IPv6 trainings to local networks Enable IPv6 on all directly-connected PREGINET partners Assist in the IPv6 planning of government agencies
