Content delivery will include (i) on-campus delivery over 1 week block intensive; and (ii) blended online delivery of material and assessment submission. Risk Management Risk Management explores theories, concepts and strategies applicable to manage risk within an effective OHSMS system. Law Law provides provides an understanding of legal frameworks underpinning workplace health and safety legislation in Australia and the implications for employer and employee OHSMS compliance and to address workplace safety issues. Industrial Epidemiology & Toxicology Industrial Epidemiology & Toxicology provides an introduction to health research methodology and examines application of statistical analysis of epidemiological principles in the workplace to inform national and international policy and practice. Work Injury Management Work Injury Management explores workplace injury management and return to work strategies, underpinned by disability theory and international workers compensation frameworks. Workplace Hazards & Hygiene Workplace Hazards & Hygiene investigates the principles of industrial toxicology and the relevance to workplace health and safety. Concepts covered include: the anticipation, recognition and evaluation of chemical and biological hazards in the workplace. The impact on worker health and control strategies will also be explored. Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems OHS management systems investigates theory, practice and process for review of existing, and implementation of new OHS management systems. Strategies to measure the effectiveness of OHS management systems and address behaviour based barriers to stakeholder engagement. Physical Hazards at Work Physical Hazards at Work provides a risk management approach to identify, assess and control workplace based physical hazards and when applicable engage expert opinion in a timely manner to manage specific safety issues. Content includes: noise vibration, radiation and thermal hazards and mechanical, electrical and mobile plant hazards. Ergonomic Essentials Ergonomic Essentials is designed to provide understanding of ergonomics and basic skills. Ergonomics contribute to the design and evaluation of tasks, jobs, products, environments and systems in order to make them compatible with the needs, abilities and limitations of people. Occupational Hygiene Occupational Hygiene outlines the specific approach advocated for the assessment of potential health risks associated with exposure to hazardous substances. The role and application of atmospheric monitoring is a particular focus. The subject content includes theoretical and practical components. For example it addresses the theory of sampling, practical sampling and analytical considerations. The correct use of monitoring equipment and the calculation and presentation of results is demonstrated. Health Research Methods Health Research Methods explores key components of public health research methodology. Research skills including reviewing the literature, developing a research proposal, ethics considerations and study and survey design will be covered. Workplace Project This capstone subject provides an authentic learning approach by applying knowledge, research and critical thinking to inform a project based investigation of a contemporary workplace health and safety issue; and To facilitate knowledge translation to environments via dissemination of findings.
