NAICS CHANGES IN CES PUBLISHING DETAIL CHANGES FROM SIC TO NAICS By: Joseph F. Winter, CES Supervisor The change in the CES publishing structure from the SIC industry groupings to the NAICS is in effect with the January 2003 prelim estimate report. The published government cells will not change. AT THE STATEWIDE LEVEL: The change from SIC to NAICS will change the CES published report structure. These changes will entail some loss of detail in Mining; Manufacturing; and Retail trade. This will be offset by a considerable increase of detail in industries that have been classified in SIC as Services, TCU and FIRE. The number of published cells at the statewide level will increase from 67 non-governmental SIC cells to 80 in NAICS. The industry groupings from SIC to NAICS are not directly comparable. The code changes for NAICS have split some SIC groups at the four-digit level. There are new NAICS sector groupings that have no direct SIC counterpart.
