WELCOME BACK TO THE NAVY!
The Navy developed the Warrior Transition Program (WTP) in an effort to facilitate IA Sailors return from deployment. WTP provides an opportunity for Sailors to unwind, decompress, and turn in their issued weapon(s) and gear before returning to the States. In addition, WTP offers a series of briefs and workshops designed to prepare Sailors for the challenges they may face as they transition back home.
4 DAY CYCLE: Outbound Flight: Rotator/Commercial Workshops Customs Gear Drop Weapon Drop Arrival, Theatre Gateway *Since the WTP schedule depends on the availability of commercial and rotator flights, all events are subject to change.
All re-deployers coming from Iraq and Afghanistan will fly to Kuwait. After arrival, the LNO will arrange Transportation to Camp Arifjan for WTP. This is a 2 hour bus ride. Upon arrival at WTP, all re-deployers should have the following: -DEMOB Orders (Reservists) -Original Orders (Active Duty) -Theater Release Letter -Itinerary (if you have an itinerary) Authorized attire once at WTP: -Uniform, PT gear (civilian or Navy), or civilian clothes -Individuals must maintain grooming standards. -Reflective belt must be worn after sunset
Cleaning weapons prior to arrival at WTP will streamline this process, however most groups will have scheduled weapon(s) cleaning times. Weapons must be cleaned to inspection standards and free of all oils (NO CLP) prior to turn-in. Helpful hints: - have a flashlight and knife/gerber handy for cleaning. - bring your issued cleaning kit - baby wipes are okay for gun cleaning
There is a comprehensive issued gear list on the Navy IA website (www.ia.navy.mil) that can help show you what will be returned. Generally speaking, all issued gear must be returned. Gear worn next to skin (long-johns, uniforms, fleece) can be kept or discarded If you are not sure, bring it! Separate your personal items from issued equipment. Use a separate bag for your personal items that you will want to take home. Separate all the attachments from equipment belt (Molle gear, Canteen Pouches, armor plated, etc).
Warrior Transition Workshops, endorsed by the CNO, are designed to facilitate a positive beginning for the journey home. In addition to sharing their unique deployment experience, Sailors will also have the opportunity to discuss issues and challenges surrounding the post-deployment period.
The travel brief will provide each Sailor with the final instructions regarding their Commercial and Rotator flights. Departure for customs and airports will depend on flight times. Uniform is required for rotator flights, Proper civilian attire is required for commercial flights. However, Sailors should bring both in the event that flight arrangements change.
