About the Institute The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) was established in 1988 under the aegis of the Birla Academy of Art and Culture. The Institute is supported by the B.K. Birla Group of Companies. Dr. (Smt.) Sarala Birla, chairperson of Birla Academy and Syt. B K Birla, Chairperson of the B K Birla Group of companies are the founders of this business school. The Institute is governed by an eminent Board of Governors mostly drawn from the top echelons of industry. The fully residential campus of BIMTECH is located in the National Capital Region (NCR). Its ambience is predominantly green. It has an enviable infrastructure fully connected with Wi-Fi facility. Over 75 faculty members with brilliant academic and industry track record engage the students and research scholars. Their efforts are supplemented by inputs from guest faculty serving the industry in senior positions working in manufacturing, marketing, finance, operations etc. Six bright, young research fellows and 42 part time scholars are carrying out research on industry relevant issues. The academic pursuits of students are fully supported by a modern, well stocked library and seven state of the art data bases. BIMTECH has international academic tie ups with several leading European, American and Asian centres of management education under which there is a regular exchange of students and faculty. Centre for Research Studies The Centre for Research Studies conducts doctoral and academic and industry focused researches. It has been one of the earliest centres of its kind in private business school in the country. The centre has influenced policy and structure of many organizations through its research output. The programme is offered in collaboration with University of Mysore, Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Rajasthan. The Centre has also started Fellow Programme / Executive Fellow Programme in Management. These programs will run in line with those offered in IIMs. The Knowledge Resources BIMTECH Knowledge Centre BIMTECH knowledge centre is an essential component of BIMTECH s research and education effort. The combination of carefully selected traditional and digital resources via browsing interface and supported by exceptionally fast response service provides BIMTECH community with a library that is worthy of this world class institution. The enthusiastic Library management, commitment of talented Library staff and the support of top management makes the Library a most lively place on the campus providing friendly environment 2 P a g e

that enables learning and advancement of knowledge, and extends research and publication assistance to postgraduate students and research scholars. Seven top data bases assist in research. BIMTECH s knowledge centre is well equipped with precious Books, Textbooks, Reference Books, Periodicals and Journals. The students/researchers can freely access these books and references. It is supported by a large well ventilated two floored reading-room. It has a separate section for research scholars. The Library is enriched with digital facilities and computer system. Free access to them is made available to the students, ex-students, research workers, faculty, staff and visitors. The library frequently displays and exhibits various books, particularly new arrivals. Teachers and students can also buy the relevant books directly from market and submit them to the Library for which reimbursement is made immediately. The Knowledge Centre subscribes to the full text on-line database. All electronic resources subscribed are available from the publisher s website. The Library forum a very important division and shares its commitment to excellence of the Institute. The Library is committed to respond with high flexibility to meet the needs of a growing student, researcher and faculty community. The state-of-the-art Library is housed in two floors with reference and borrowing sections distinctly divided. The institute is also member of DELNET which provides ready access to libraries of leading institutions of the national capital region. The Library is actively seeking to augment our international journal resource base. It has become member of over 4000 international journals of repute. Specialised software for data related to industries and economies, available in the Library, provides support research materials to faculty researchers and students. 3 P a g e

The Programme Ph.D. Programme The objective of Ph. D. Programme is to retain the current and develop the emerging scholars for career in teaching, research, training and consulting. The programme focuses on (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) equipping researchers with the knowledge of comprehensive and encompassing research methodology; initiating research in Priority and Gap areas of knowledge to fill up the existing vacuum in the theory and practice of management, economics and commerce education; grooming highly motivated Teachers and Trainers for the Institutes, which have been facing acute shortage of faculty due to rapid growth of enrolments and proliferation of universities, business schools and research institutes in India recently; preparing professionals, who are endowed with the requisite intellectual capability, distinctive vision and perspective to cope up with the emerging challenges of rapidly changing economic and business world; and nurture the emerging scholars for career in research by endowing them a. With an insatiable desire to know, b. Encouraging them to incessantly invoke intuitive insights, and imaginative speculation, and c. Induce them to explore and experiment with ideas in order to invest the same into facts. An important objective of the programme is to equip the scholars with the capability to grasp and analyze the emerging trends in the constantly changing Business and Economic Environment and foresee and envisage the future Potentials and Possibilities in order to throw up New Concepts and Perceive and Conceive new Theories that may guide future Policies on the one hand, and explain the new Facts or Reality on the other. BIMTECH's Centre for Research Studies is recognized by University of Mysore for Ph.D. in Management Science, Economics and Commerce. It is also recognized by M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur for Ph.D. Program in management. Every year the best thesis is awarded the Jagdish N Sheth Award. Application from willing candidates is invited from the candidates who have submitted the thesis for Ph.D. during the year of the award (July to June). The applications are considered by a committee which goes through the thesis and interact with the candidates to decide the best thesis. Ph.D. Course Work Ph.D. Course and Ph.D. degree programs are offered as an integrated whole. Course work is compulsory for all candidates, seeking admission to Ph. D. program. No one is granted exemption from course work. 4 P a g e

All candidates are required to attend 75 per cent of total classes. Classes are held on every Saturdays and Sundays. Such candidates, as do not fulfill attendance requirement, will not be allowed to appear in semester examinations. The admission to Ph.D. Programme of such candidates may also be cancelled by the approval of the Doctoral Committee. Admission to the Programme Eligibility Criteria The following categories of persons are eligible to join the Ph.D. Programme: a) Those, who have obtained at least 60% marks in aggregate or B+ grade in 7 point scale in Master s Degree or equivalent diploma examination in the relevant subject and possess a consistently good academic record. Relevant subjects are (a) Management, (b) Economics, (c) Commerce, (d) Business Economics, (e) Personnel Management, (f) Chartered Accountancy and allied fields. b) Business Executives with an experience of at least 3 years in industry or such allied sectors as Banking, Finance, FMCG, I.T. etc. and other large Corporate Houses in Organized Sector of the economy subject to the fulfillment of (a); c) Members of Faculty of the Business Schools, Colleges/Universites and other Educational Institutions, subject to the fulfillment of the condition under (a); c) Post Graduates in Management/Insurance/Economics/Commerce and other allied disciplines, subject to the fulfillment of the condition under (a). d) Passing of admission test, including interview*. *In case of foreign candidates the interview is over Video/Skype. e) The registration process at MLSU for foreign candidate demands the equivalence certificate of Master Degree under the norms of University Grant Commission (UGC) India. It is provided by Association of Indian University (AIU) with the fees as charged by AIU. Candidates are required to obtain the equivalence certificate by themselves with the help of Centre for Research Studies (all Commonwealth Universities are covered under the equivalence process). The fee by AIU is not included in BIMTECH s Fees. Admission Procedure Candidates are admitted twice a year by MLSU. Admission tests are conducted by MLSU, Udaipur for admission into Ph.D. program of the university. After successfully completing all stages of admission procedure, including interview, candidates are offered admission. After admission to BIMTECH, candidates are required to fill up the university Joining form with the prescribed fees. Candidates are given a fixed time period from the date of enrollment in the university for selecting the topic and preparation of synopsis under the supervision of the guide appointed by the institute and approved by the university (SEE ANNEXURE-I). The candidates are required to present the synopsis to the doctoral committee of the institute in a seminar. Seminar may be attended by university s nominees, including outside expert(s). After the approval of the synopsis, candidates are 5 P a g e

required to fill up registration form. After approval of the synopsis by Doctoral Committee in the seminar, the synopsis may be forwarded to the university, if approved by the doctoral committee. The filled up form of registration for Ph. D. has to be submitted to the University along with the synopsis and requisite/prescribed fee through the chairman/dean of the doctoral committee of BIMTECH. In case, the candidate is advised to revise the synopsis, candidate shall get one month s time to present the revised synopsis in another seminar at the institute. Candidates will join the doctoral courses immediately after the offer of admission. Dates for test shall be announced in Newspapers or communicated telephonically or e-mail to applicants. Interested candidates may contact office of the Dean (Research) on all days for further inquiry. After 4 semesters, the fee will increase by Rs. 5000 every semester. In case of inordinate delay in completing the course work, admission in the programme may be cancelled. 2. Rs. 100/- per day will be charged as late fee after the due date for the next 15 days; thereafter the late fee will be increased to Rs. 200/- per day. Dues should be cleared within six months from the due date, otherwise his/her candidature will be recommended to be terminated by the University. 3. Rs. 1500/- per paper will be charged for re-examination. Re-examination will be allowed only two in each paper. 4. The institute reserves the right to charge any other fees from the students or increase the above fees if necessary. Due notice would be given, while making such changes. Notes: 1. The decision of BIMTECH in consultation with the university shall be final with regard to the selection of candidates for admission; 2. The candidate shall submit the no objection certificate of the employer (if applicable); 3. The candidate shall submit an experience certificate, giving details of his/her work experience till date, duly certified by current employer; 4. Conditional recommendation by Head of the Institution will not be accepted; and 5. No financial assistance shall be provided to the candidates admitted into the Programme. 8 P a g e

Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Ph.D. has more than three decades of experience in teaching, research and administration. He has been involved in formulation of policies, planning, regulation and control of Management and other disciplines of technical education. He contributed in especially application of quality concepts in Management Education. Under his leadership, BIMTECH has grown by leaps and bounds since 1999. He linked BIMTECH with 20 B Schools of USA, Canada, UK, France, Poland, Austria, Hungary and Tanzania. Because of its multifaceted growth, the Institute has been consistently ranked among top 15 Business Schools in the country by reputed magazines like Business Today, Outlook and The Telegraph. BIMTECH setup a state private university under his leadership at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India,which will starts its programs from July, 2012. He was Editor-in-Chief of four reputed refereed journals Business Perspectives, Journal of Insurance & Risk Management, South Asian Business Review, and Indian Retail Review. He is member of governing bodies of several institutions of higher learning across the country, including AIMA. Dr Chaturvedi has been conferred Honorary Professorship was on him by St. Stevan University of Hungary in 2007, He often appears on TV and his views are published by several financial news papers periodically. Dr. Arunaditya Sahay Dean (Research) and Professor of Strategy & Entrepreneurship was a hard core business executive, an innovator and a corporate entrepreneur. He turned into an academician of repute in the later part of his career becoming a champion of both the corporate and academic world. Starting his career as an academician; getting his doctorate from Czech Republic he turned to the corporate world early in life. Wading through both public and private sectors he made to the top to became the Chairman and Managing Director of Scooters India Limited. Which he turned around and received many National and International Awards. Returning to academics at Management Development Institute, he bagged the best researcher award and wrote three books in the area of Entrepreneurship besides publishing many papers and cases. During this tennure, he had post doctoral stint at Henley the Management College (U.K) and University of California, USA. Five of his research scholars have already got their doctoral degree and three are on the verge of getting it. Though he has showed leadership in all fields of management, he is popularly known as Turnaround Manager and a Transformational Leader. While in the industry, he was closely associated with IITs and IIMs and when in academics, he has been on the boards of companies both in private and public sectors besides being in the Task Force of Govt. of India. Dr. Shri Prakash formerly Dean (Research) and currently Professor of Eminence at BIMTECH, holds Ph.D. in Economics. He served at several reputed research institutions and universities in various capacities, including U.G.C. and NUEPA. He was involved in the formulation of education policy of India as a part of Think-Tank of NUEPA-MHRD. He launched four Monthly Journal-Paripekhya-Socio-Economic Perspective of Education (Hindi) and edited it till 1997. He edited Business Perspective, bi-annual journal of BIMTECH for a decade. He is currently on Editorial Advisory Boards of Bulletin of Political Economy, Athens, and VARTA, Allahabad. He acts as referee of papers of several journals, including Economic Modeling (Elsevier, U.S.). He was closely involved in the launching and monitoring of implementation of the scheme of Vocationalization of Education at First Degree by U.G.C. He has authored 9 books, including two edited ones. Dr Gokulananda Patel, M.Phil, Ph.D., Professor He obtained Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from NIT, Rourkela, M.Phil in the same subject from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, Ph.D. in Operations Research from Sambalpur University and completed one year Faculty Development Programme in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He is actively engaged in research since 1980 and has published more than 80 papers in both National and International Journals and taught for more than 30 years in P G courses. His specialization and research interests are Mathematical programming, Performance Measurement and e-governance. So far he has guided seven candidates for Ph.D and more than twenty for M.Phil Degree. A V Shukla is a professor in the area of Marketing. Dr. Manosi Chaudhuri is a dual gold medalist during her Masters in Psychology and D. Phil. as a UGC Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Psychology from University of Allahabad.
