Meet the Speakers Joe Barnard grew up with the alligators and snakes in South Louisiana. He first came to Scotland right after high school when he studied for a year at Highland Theological College in Dingwall. He subsequently went back to America to study at Baylor University where he met his wife, Anna. The next number of years were filled with a variety of activities ranging from studying Arabic in Egypt to selling professional liability insurance to teaching humanities at a classical school in Texas. Eventually, Joe came back to Scotland for graduate studies at The University of St Andrews. For the last four years, he has been pastoring a local congregation in Kiltarlity, a village in the Scottish Highlands. His passion for youth has inspired him to organize youth conferences for teens in the Highlands called Caffeinated Christianity. He has also been a speaker at youth events for the Free Church and The Faith Mission. Don A Carson is Professor of New Testament at Trinity E v a n g e l i c a l Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, where he has been since 1978. He has served as assistant pastor and pastor and has done itinerant ministry in Canada and the United Kingdom. He received the Bachelor of Science in chemistry from McGill University, the Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Seminary in Toronto, and the Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament from the University of Cambridge. Don is an active guest lecturer in academic and church settings around the world. He has written or edited about sixty books. He is a founding member and currently president of The Gospel Coalition. Don and his wife, Joy, reside in Libertyville, Illinois and have two adult children. Adrian Holdsworth is Vice-Principal at FMBC. Adrian says he is A disciple who is wrestling his life into joyful obedience to Jesus Christ and inviting others around him to do the same, a husband who counts Heather as God s generous gift and a means of gracious transformation, a teacher who daily encounters Jesus Christ captivating and equipping young people to make our King famous. David Jackman is a past President of The Proclamation Trust, formed in 1986 to e n c o u r a g e ministry that seeks above all to expound the Bible as God s Word for today. Under its auspices he was founder-director of the Cornhill Training Course. He is involved now in the Trust s conferences for preachers and in producing distance learning materials and books. His latest book is Joshua, in the Preach The Word series published by Crossway. Before joining The Proclamation Trust, David was
Senior Minister of Above Bar Church, Southampton. He studied theology at Trinity College, Bristol, and worked six years as a staff worker with the Inter-Varsity Fellowship (now UCCF). He read English at Cambridge University and was for four years a grammar school teacher. David is married to Heather and they have two married children and four grandchildren. His spare-time interests include historical biography, piano playing and walking. Alex McLellan is the Executive Director of Reason Why International. Alex was born in Edinburgh. He received his BA in Communications from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and his MA in Philosophy of Religion from Talbot School of Theology in Los Angeles. In 2005 Alex launched Reason Why in Scotland, and in 2011 he relocated to the USA and launched Reason Why International. He serves as an associate with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries and Josh McDowell Ministry. His book, A Jigsaw Guide to Making Sense of the World, was published in December 2012 (IVP). Alex is married to Sheryl, they have three children and live in San Diego, California. Robert Murdock was appointed Principal of The Faith Mission Bible College in 2013. His desire is to teach the Bible in a dynamic and relevant way believing it is a dynamic and relevant book. Robert is originally from Scotland. He moved to the Republic of Ireland in his early teens where he came to faith in Christ. He entered The Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh in 1989 where he completed a two year course and then went on to work with The Faith Mission as an evangelist for one year. In 1992 he began his studies at the Irish Baptist College and Queen s University, Belfast, from which he was awarded several degrees including a PhD. Robert has been involved in pastoral ministry since 1994 when he became an assistant in Ballymena Baptist Church, Northern Ireland. In 1996 he moved to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lisburn where he served as pastor for almost twelve years. In January 2008 he became pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Vernon, Canada. He has been married to Elaine since 1992 and they have five children. Robin Sydserff has been minister of St. Catherine s Church in Edinburgh for five years. One of the church s p r i o r i t i e s is training gospel workers through its Ministry Associate Programme. Prior to coming to Edinburgh, Robin worked in London with David Jackman as Director of Ministry for The Proclamation Trust. Before fulltime ministry, Robin trained as a chartered accountant and then lectured in accountancy and finance at Heriot-Watt University. He is married to Sally and they have three children, aged thirteen, eleven and nine (and a black Labrador).
