Scientific activity My research interests concern Theoretical Physics of Condensed Matter, with particular reference to low-dimensional quantum liquids. Over the years, I have developed good skills in both analytical approaches and numerical approaches. Moreover, in my research activity I have given attention to both the theoretical aspects and the possible implications of technological interest. During the Bachelor Degree Course, my research activity is concerned the study of the correlation properties of quasiparticles characterized by unconventional fractional statistics (anyons). This argument is important in phenomena of interest such as the fractional quantum Hall effect. These studies have been undertaken together with Prof. G. G. N. Angilella (Dept of Physics and Astronomy, University of Catania), Prof. R. Pucci (Dept of Physics and Astronomy, University of Catania), and Prof. N. H. March (Oxford University). More recently, during the Master Degree Course and the PhD, my interests of research has been related to the study of the electronic properties of graphene. Graphene is an atomically thick single layer of carbon atoms in a honeycomb lattice. The realization (Geim and Novoselov, 2004) of sufficiently large graphene flakes in the laboratory has stimulated an enormous outburst of both experimental and theoretical investigation. We have studied the effects of short range impurity on measurable quantity, such as the local density of states (LDOS) and the conductivity. In addition, we have studied the effects of strain on the electronic properties of graphene. In particular, we have analyzed the modifications on the optical properties (e. g. optical conductivity), plasmonic properties, and ballistic transport. These studies have been performed together with Prof. G. G. N. Angilella (Dept of Physics and Astronomy, University of Catania) and Prof. R. Pucci (Dept of Physics and Astronomy, University of Catania). During the PhD, I have collaborated with Dr. Denis Basko (LPMMC, CNRS. Grenoble) and the experimental group of Prof. M. Potemski at the LNMCI (CNRS, Grenoble). In particular, we have described in semiclassical terms the experimental magnetoabsorption measurements on graphite, viewed as an electronic system in the vicinity of the Lifshitz transition.
