The control system compares the prescribed laser positions with the actual laser positions. The LAP DORADO systems will only switch on after the control system has verifi ed that the lasers have reached the prescribed position. This is a unique feature of LAP DORADO systems. An auto calibration control procedure assures that the projection points of the isocenter location or other points of interest are accurately marked. The individual laser lines in the DORADO system can be easily focused to equal length and brightness. Modern radiation therapy ( IMRT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT) requires optimal target localization. Advanced linear accelerators provide gantry-mounted imaging systems allowing online treatment plan verifi cation, correction, and targeting of the tumor. Independent of which gantrymounted imaging system is used, the initial positioning of the patient is done according to the marked points of the isocenter on the patient skin during the virtual simulation process. Accurate planning and careful positioning are the key factors of all treatment procedures. These requirements can only be achieved if the virtual simulation process is part of the workfl ow. The radiation therapy plan is transferred to the patient via positioning and marking lasers. Virtual simulation is not only a process of marking coordinates on the patient; it is also a fundamental quality assurance step in the radiation therapy treatment. LINE WIDTH - FWHM Full width at half maximum (FWHM) is defi ned as the width across the brightness profi le when it drops to half its peak value. This is how the line width for LAP lasers is measured. It is a simple and well-defi ned scientifi c method which can be used to compare the quality of lasers lines obtained from diff erent sources and under Brightness 100 % 50 % FWHM Width diff erent conditions.

The longer wavelength of the red laser systems leads correspondingly to an increase in the penetration depth into the skin producing more scattering of the laser light and diff used refl ections contributing essential to a less sharped line and accordingly to a decrease of accuracy. The preferred laser colors for virtual simulation are the shorter wavelengths of green lasers.
