HP Client Automation Standard Fast Track guide Background Client Automation Version This document is designed to be used as a fast track guide to installing and configuring Hewlett Packard Client Automation Standard (HP CAS) edition. It is designed to give the Systems Administrator a simple guide to follow so they can setup up HP CAS or a Proof of concept for initial testing of Client Automation as part of an evaluation process. It is not designed to go over best practice of every feature of Client Automation but rather an enablement tool to get started quickly. This document refers to Client Automation Standard released by Hewlett Packard in December 2009; this document is applicable to Starter Edition also. Version 7.8 Download site for HPCA Prerequisites for success www.hp.com/go/clientautomation First we need to ensure we have setup the prerequisites to ensure we have everything in place before we install Client Automation Standard Server Requirements dedicated server 1. Windows Server 2003 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 with o Microsoft.NET 2.0 or greater o Adobe Flash Player console users flash o Sun Java installed o 2GB RAM Min 4GB recommended o Dual Core CPU o 3GB Min Free space 20GB recommended 2. Database Server SQL or Oracle o Microsoft SQL 2005 SP2 or greater (mixed mode) o Microsoft SQL Express 2005 or 2008 o MySQL Must be used to use static ports 3. o local machines, it must have install rights on the local machines suggested you create a domain level service account for HPCA administration If using Firewall, must exclude the following: RadUIShell.exe Radexecd.exe nvdkit.exe nvdtk.exe Installation and Configuration Part 1 Part 2 1. Step 5 Accept the default data installation path, click Next to continue NOTE: In a production environment you may change this directory as your OS images are stored here and you don t want to run out of space on the C Drive Step 6 Enter the IP address of the machine on which you are installing HP CAS. Step 8 Note: Please take note of these ports and PC firewalls and AV may need to have a rule amended for client to server and server to client communication Click Next to begin the installation, click Next to continue Step 9 Note: The installation will take between 2 and 8 mins depending on your server s specifications. Step 5 In this case we create a new database on and existing Microsoft SQL Server. The DSN and Database default to the name HPCA_CORE, it is recommended you do not change this, enter your SQL server IP Address, the username/password must be SQL Authentication, click Next Step 6 The First Time wizard auto enabled the below three services, click next Step 7 HP Client Automation now connects to SQL and creates the database settings etc 8 HP Client Automation Standard Fast Track Guide Hewlett-Packard Company
Step 8 Once completed the setup wizard will confirm the succeeded processes, click Finish Your installation and Base Configuration is now Complete Part 4 Next Steps Now you have completed the install the next steps are as follows: 1. Import Devices into the Console, via Device Management Tab 2. Install the management Agent onto the import devices 3. Create Patch and Inventory discovery schedules 4. Publish Software and Acquire Patches 5. Create Groups of devices 6. Configure Remote Control of devices for in band and out of band control 7. Enable Microsoft Patch Management 8. Application Self Service 9. Operating System Management creating and managing a gold desktop/laptop image for deployment 10. Reporting configuration of reporting for Patch compliance, application usage, device management etc. 1. Start HP CAS Console and log in. (default: admin\secret) 2. Select Device Management. 3. Click on Devices tab. 4. Select Import Device icon. The Import Device Wizard appears. 5. Select Manual Input. NOTE: There are number of ways to import devices, generally you would use Active Directory or network scan. 6. For Manual input, enter IP address (ie.192.168.5.20) and click Import. 7. Click Close. Notice that your newly added device shows up in the list with the fully qualified name of the client. 1. In the Devices workspaces, check the box next to your newly imported device. 2. Select the Deploy the Management Agent icon. The Agent Deployment Wizard appears. Click Next. 3. Enter the administrator User ID. 4. Enter the administrator Password. 5. Re-enter administrator Password. 6. Click Next. 7. Schedule to Run Now. 8. Click Submit. 9. Click Close. It may take a few minutes to execute the task. 10. Click on the Current Jobs tab to see status. It should indicate that it is currently active. 11. 1. In the Devices workspace, check the box next to the devices you wish to create hardware inventory schedules. 2. Select the Inventory Collections icon. 3. Select Discover Software/Hardware Inventory from the list. The Software/Hardware Inventory Wizard appears. 4. Schedule the discovery to run Now. 5. Ensure that Power On is enabled. 6. Click Next. 7. Click Submit. You should get a message All discovery jobs successfully created. 8. Click Close. Repeat for Patch scheduling. 1. Select the Configuration tab in the HP CAS console. 2. Expand Patch Management on the left hand navigation panel. 3. Select Acquisition and click on the Settings tab on the right hand panel. 4. Under Microsoft Bulletins, select Yes in the Enabled field. 5. Enter MS09* to acquire all 2009 patches. Fill in other appropriate fields 6. Under HP SoftPaqs, select Yes in the Enabled field. 7. In the HP System IDs field, select the down arrow to acquire the appropriate system IDs based on the inventory information in the database. 8. Click on the Schedule tab. 9. The first time you are acquiring patches, you will select Acquire Patches Now link. 10. Schedule subsequent acquisitions by selecting how often to run the acquisition, interval and date to start. 11. Select Save. 12. Now you are ready to publish software. Navigate to Start > HP Client Automation Administrator > HP Client Automation Administrator Publisher and log in (admin/secret). 13. Select Windows Installer (for.msi) or Component Select (for setup.exe plus additional folders). 14. Click Ok. 15. Select c:\ applicationname.msi file. 8. Click Next. It may take a few minutes to read MSI file. 9. Click Next. 10. Enter Service ID name (ex: FIREFOX) 11. Enter a Description (ex: Firefox browser). 12. Enter name of Vendor. Note that you can limit application to certain OS versions. Click Next. 13. Click Publish, then Finish. 14. Start HP CAS Console and log in (admin/secret). 15. Navigate to Software Management and select the Software tab. 16. Verify that your application install package is available in the list of software. You may have to hit the refresh button. 1. From the HP CAS console, in the Management workspace, select Group Management 2. In the General workspace, click on Create a New Static Group. You can just easily create Dynamic Reporting or Dynamic Reporting groups. The Group Creation Wizard appears. 3. Click Next. 4. Enter a name for the group in the Display Name field. 5. Enter a short description in the Description field. Click Next. 6. Check the box next to devices to add to the group. Click Next. 7. You can validate that the machines that you added by clicking on the Show Devices link. Click Create. 8. Click Close. 9. Click on the Groups tab and verify that your group was successfully created. You are not ready to use this group in a management task, such as deploying software to this group. 1. From the HP CAS console, in the Management workspace, select Software Management. 2. Click on Software tab and locate the software you wish to deploy/entitle. Note that you will have already published the software as described in step 4 above. 3. Software icon or Deploy Software icon. 4. Follow the instructions in the wizard to entitle/deploy the software to the group of devices. All Devices group is an out of the box group that is available. 5. Check the Current and Past Jobs to verify that the deployment was successful. 1. From the CAS console, click on Reporting tab. 2. There are a couple of ways to get to the reports: one way is to use the Reporting Views window on the bottom left. 3. Expand the Inventory Management Reports > Executive Summaries for example. 4. Select the Hardware Summary report. This report gives you a comprehensive view of your environment. 5. Click on the Details icon in the report to switch to a tabular view. 6. Click on the Magnifying Glass icon on one of your devices to get details on that device. Self Help 7. Click the Back Arrow button to go back to the entire list of devices. 8. In Data Filters, expand the Inventory Management Filters > Hardware Filters > Memory Filters and select Memory Less Than. 9. Enter 256 and click Apply. You now have a list of devices with less than 256 MB of RAM. 10. You now have the option of creating a group of those devices by clicking on the Create Dynamic Report Group icon in the report. This will bring up the wizard. Follow the steps in creating this group. This allows you to get a report on this group as well as manage this group accordingly.
