IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE HOME OWNER AND BUILDER It is important that you the home owner and your builder understand the following issues for the correct use of Tanalised termite resistant* structural timber and wood products. This guarantee covers the use of Tanalised timber and wood products against termite damage when used for internal construction only. Termite Resistant* Termite resistant is defined by AS3660.1 as being, The ability of the materials or components to withstand the effects of termites to such an extent that the materials and components are not functionally impaired. This means that minor or aesthetic damage that does not significantly affect the structural or functional capacity of the treated wood products is not covered under this guarantee. Australian Standards Timber Treatment Levels Tanalised termite resistant wood products are protected against termite attack by an Australian Pesticides & Veterinary Medicines Authority approved Tanalised wood preservative from Arch Wood Protection. Timber and wood products treated to level H2 or higher as per AS1604 series are deemed to be termite resistant building materials under the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards subject to the limitations set out here. H2 level treatment is intended for dry, protected situations not subject to weather or moisture but potentially subject to termite attack. Note: H2 treatment specification as per AS1604 is segregated into; H2 general use for all parts of Australia, and H2 S, or H2 F which are restricted use categories only for use south of the Tropic of Capricorn (not subject to attack by Mastotermes darwiniensis). This guarantee is void for any Tanalised wood product treated to H2 S or H2 F level if used north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Note: H2 level treatments (including H2-F and H2-S) do not protect against fungal decay and hence are not guaranteed in any situation where moisture or exposure may promote fungal decay. If resistance against fungal decay is required then timber or wood products treated to level H3 or higher will be required. See AS1604 for further information. Timber Treatment Branding All treated wood products supplied in conformance with Australian Standard 1604 should bear a treatment brand at the time of supply from the producer or treatment provider. It is vital for this guarantee that you obtain the brand details of all Tanalised timber supplied for your premises. Your house lot may contain treated wood products from a number of producers. A blue or red marker dye is often incorporated into the Tanalised treatment to facilitate identification, but the full brand details should always be obtained. Any treated wood products that are not branded by the producer or processor are excluded from this guarantee. The treatment brand should have the following form:] XXX YY H2 or XXX YY H2-F or XXX YY H2-S Where XXX is a 3 digit number that identifies the producer, YY is a 2 digit number that identifies the particular Tanalised preservative used (normally 70 or 74). The H number indicates the specific level to which the wood product has been treated This guarantee specifically excludes the following: Damage to Tanalised H2 treated wood products (including H2-F and H2-S) due to fungal decay or any other cause apart from termites or insect borers. Damage to Tanalised wood products treated to H2 S or H2 F level when used north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Any minor or aesthetic damage that does not significantly affect the structural or functional capacity of the treated wood products. Any Tanalised timber products that have been rip sawn, redressed, or had the original dimensions significantly altered in any way (except for cutting to length and notching as required for fitting). Any Tanalised timber or wood products used in any application or in any manner not consistent with the Building Code of Australia or in contravention of local building approvals and appropriate building standards. Damage to or repairs and replacement of any other timbers, materials or components in the building. Any consequential injuries, losses, ancillary damages or costs howsoever caused due to use of the product or termite infestation including termite inspection or eradication and temporary or alternative accommodation. Any timber that does not bear conforming Australian Standard treatment brand markings at the time of supply by the producer. Any Tanalised timber or wood products that are not registered with Arch Wood Protection within 90 days of building completion as per the form attached. General Information Use of termite resistant* timber and wood products particularly for concealed structural building components is an important part of a good termite management strategy. Tanalised termite resistant* timber and wood products are highly resistant to damage in the event that termites do gain entry to your house at some stage. However please be aware of the following points. Tanalised wood products are deemed to be termite resistant* but be aware of the restricted use categories H2 F and H2-S which should only be used south of the Tropic of Capricorn. This guarantee is void for any H2 F or H2 S treated wood products used north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Tanalised wood products are protected against termite attack but treated wood does not in itself form a barrier to termites, nor does it protect other termite susceptible timbers or materials used in the house. Therefore Arch Wood Protection recommends that general whole of house protection against termite ingress conforming to AS3660.1 be provided and supplemented by regular competent building inspection and maintenance as detailed in AS3660.2. Failure to take appropriate care with inspection and maintenance against termite activity in your home may result in considerable damage and costs which are not covered under this guarantee. Tanalised wood products are not intended to be used haphazardly in a building such that termite susceptible

timbers and materials form a large proportion of the structural components as this may erode the benefit from using treated timber and wood products. Where possible full termite resistant construction for all structural components is recommended for maximum benefit and confidence against termite attack. H2 level treated timber and wood products must not be used in a permanently weather exposed or damp situation which could promote fungal decay. If protection against fungal decay is required then treatment to H3 level or higher should be specified. Tanalised timber and wood products can only be supplied pre-treated from approved wood treaters and processors and their authorized distributors. The Tanalised protection can not be applied at the building site to untreated timber. The Tanalised protection does not significantly affect structural grading, nor nail plate withdrawal resistance and joint strength. Once dry it does not significantly affect plaster board adhesion and is not corrosive to metal fixings. This guarantee is transferable to subsequent owners of the property where Tanalised timber and wood products are installed providing that the guarantee form is retained by the new owners. Essential site and construction procedures: Check all timber delivered to site for brand markings on the faces or end grain. If the timber does not bear brand markings (for example if it has been pre-cut and assembled into frame or truss units prior to delivery) then you must get your builder or supplier to obtain the brand details for the timber supplied. This guarantee is not valid unless legitimate brand details are provided. Do not rip saw, dress or plane Tanalised timber down to reduced dimensions after treatment as this may reduce or nullify the protection afforded by the treatment and may void this guarantee. Rip sawing of panel products such as plywood or particleboard is acceptable. Check with your supplier for edge sealing requirements in these cases. For resealing Arch Wood Protection recommends Tanalised Enseal Clear or Ecoseal or and equivalent product. For H2-F level treated timbers up to 45 mm thickness and 140 mm width, resealing of end cuts in not required. For H2-F timbers more than 45 mm thick or more than 140 mm wide, exposed end cuts are to be resealed unless butted or joined closely to other H2-F or higher level treated timbers. Trenches and notches do not require resealing if they are closely joined against H2-F or higher level treated timber. Note H2-F and H2-S are only for use south of the Tropic of Capricorn. All exposed end cuts and rebates should be resealed north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Planing of wall studs for straightening at selected points within 1 metre of the noggin before application of wall linings is permissible providing that the depth of planing is no more than 3mm. If more than 3mm needs to be planed off, then the exposed surface should be resealed with a suitable product. Arch Wood Protection recommend Tanalised Enseal Clear, Ecoseal or an equivalent resealing product. H2 (including H2-F and H2-S) treated wood products must not remain exposed to weather during storage and construction for more than six months. Damage caused by deterioration due to excessive exposure (eg: fungal decay and mould) are not covered by and may void this guarantee. H2 (including H2-F and H2-S) treated wood products must not be stored on the ground. For prolonged storage, the timber or wood products should be raised at least 200 mm from the ground on bearers and covered with water resistant sheet. Install a Tanalised treated structural timber termite protection notice in two secure locations in your house (this is mandatory under the Building Code if termite resistant* treated structural timber is being used as the primary management measure against termites). Recommended maintenance procedures: Do not store termite susceptible wood or cellulose based material under or next to your home. Do not build structures against the side of buildings without the necessary measures to prevent termite entry. Consult the Building Code or your local council for recommendations. Do not build garden beds or raised lawns against the side of dwellings as this can provide an access point for termites. Regularly inspect for termite mud tracks entering your home and have a qualified pest or building inspector assess your property for termite activity every one to two years. Repair any plumbing or roofing leaks immediately as water may promote wood rot and encourage termite foraging. Have any termite activity in or next to your home treated immediately by a qualified pest controller if detected. Arch Wood Protection and our partner suppliers reserve the right of site inspection and verification of any claims made under this guarantee. The terms and conditions and construction procedures in future versions of this guarantee may be varied without notice.
