Respiratory Care Program Fall 2013 The Respiratory Care program has a limited number of seats. Therefore, a selective admissions process is administered based on cumulative GPA, laboratory science grades, and the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores. Criteria*: - Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. - Science grades of C or better in laboratory biology and chemistry. - Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores. Special Notes: - Any student that does not have a high school cumulative GPA or who possesses a GED must have a college cumulative GPA with 12 college credits to be considered for the program. - College students will have until the close of Wintersession to submit cumulative GPA. 1 / 6
- All General Education course requirements (43-45 credits) must be complete by close of spring semester (May 2013). See attached for this curriculum check-list. Check off each item below as you complete it: 1. SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION Complete your application online with a $25 application fee between June 30, 2012 and January 30, 2013 at www.middlesexcc.edu. Please choose Respiratory Care (RST.AS) on the application. 2. REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS Request that all high school and college transcripts be sent directly from your schools to the Admissions Office. Transcripts must be received by January 30, 2013. You will not be eligible for the program if transcripts are received after January 30, 2013. Order your transcripts early from your high school and all colleges you have attended. 3. TAKE THE ESL EXAM Take the English as a Second Language (ESL) exam if English is not your best language and if you have not completed four years of high school English courses in the US. Applicant s who attended college outside the US need to have their transcripts evaluated by an accredited third party evaluator such as AACRAO or WES. If you have the evaluated equivalent of a US Bachelor s degree you may submit TOEFL scores for review. Any required ESL courses must be completed by the close of the fall semester (Dece mber 2012) for the fall 2013 program. The College Placement Test must be taken after completion of ESL courses. 4. TAKE THE COLLEGE PLACEMENT TEST Take the College Placement Test or receive an exemption. If you have taken the test at another New Jersey College, please have the scores sent to the Middlesex County College Testing Center. If you have SAT scores that are less than five years old, please submit them to the Admissions Office for possible exemption(s). All applicants with a college degree from a US institution are exempt from the test. Applicants who attended college outside the US need to have their transcripts evaluated by an accredited third party evaluator such as AACRAO or WES. If you have the evaluated equivalent of a US Bachelor s degree you will be exempted from the College Placement Test. 5. COMPLETION OF ALL DEVELOPMENTAL COURSES* by close of wintersession 2013. 6. COMPLETE PREREQUISITE COURSES* Complete prerequisite courses of laboratory biology and laboratory chemistry with a 2 / 6
grade of C or better. All science courses required for the program must be completed by fall 2012. 7. TAKE THE PRE-ADMISSIONS EXAM Additional information regarding dates and times of the exam will be sent after you submit an application to the degree program. Only students that have completed all of the pre-requisites should take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS.) Information about the test may be found at www.atitesting.com. Criteria for Admissions - Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale - College GPA: Must have 12 college credits (transcripts from the last five years or less will be used for admission criteria, BUT if you do not have 12 college credits within the last five years a cumulative GPA will be used from all colleges attended) - High school GPA: Will use the un-weighted GPA *If a student has 12 or more college credits the college GPA will be used. If a student has less than 12 college credits the high school GPA will be used. *Special Note: Science courses taken on the college level will be weighted higher than science courses taken at the High School level. Wintersession The courses offered during Wintersession are limited. Please note that science courses 4 / 6
with a laboratory are not offered during Middlesex County College 12-day Wintersession (December 26, 2012 - January 14, 2013). Developmental Courses All courses must be complete. - MAT 010/MAT 013 - RDG 009/RDG 011 - ENG 009/ ENG 010 Prerequisite Courses BIO 010 and CHM 010 must be completed OR a higher level 4 credit laboratory biology and/or chemistry must be completed with a C or better. 5 / 6
