As part of Bishop Soto s Diocesan Strategic Plan we are committed to certifying 30 ministers in advanced level training in youth ministry. By encouraging you Youth Ministry Team to complete their certificate in Youth Ministry; you will be creating a more comprehensive Youth Ministry in your parish and helping the Diocese meet the goals of the strategic plan. To encourage participation and encourage students to complete the program, the Diocese of Sacramento will reimburse 50% of the tuition for any student that completes the certificate program. The Certificate in Youth Ministry program present a vision for engaging youth in the parish community and provides practical tools, models, and examples for parish youth ministry development. The program consists of eight weekend courses offered over a period of two year. Each weekend, the participants in the program receive resources for parish implementation of Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry (USCCB, 1997). Enclosed you will find a brochure that describes the course and provides our site information. I invite you to consider the benefits of this program for the variety of leaders in your parish who help lead ministry with youth. This includes paid staff and volunteer leaders who lead ministry and religious education efforts with adolescent ages 11-18. Foundations for Ministry Leadership Foundations of Ministry Leadership explores the theology, principles, and practices of effective leadership in Christian ministry. Participants will explore current leadership concepts and approaches, as well as Christian perspectives on leadership. Participants will also learn how to empower individuals and teams of leaders for ministry with youth. The course combines theory presentation with experiential learning as participants explore (a) leadership theory and an assessment of styles for effective leadership; (b) theological and pastoral foundations for understanding leadership and empowerment; and (c) processes and tools for inviting, preparing and nurturing adult and youth leaders in ministry.
