Universidad Regiomontana U-ERRE The University Regiomontana uses its educational experience of over 45 years to maintain the validity of their original values: tetramestral system, practical guidance, urban location, flexibility in study system and in the scheme of tuition, plus a comprehensive program for scholarships and financial aid for their students. However, globalization forces universities to respond to changing times and adapt their teaching style to the needs of society in order to prepare students to excel in their personal and working life. The 2014 is a significant U-ERRE year, as the university will continue to live an evolution in its educational model to meet the mission of transforming society through quality education. The new educational model U-ERRE aims to the training of university graduates, qualified to function in a rapidly changing environment, both technologically and economically, with a solid model, but flexible and adaptable to change. This model features innovative elements including the widespread use of technology, the possibility of learning experiences in spaces that foster academic discussion and social interaction, where the teacher has an important role to promote critical thinking of students from real situations that give meaning to the theory. Learning experiences that students have are collaborative, multidisciplinary and with international vision. In addition, the model offers the possibility of national and international vision, participate in cultural, sports and activities of student groups, forming competitive professionals seeking the benefit of society. Classes and Schedule. Grading System and Credit Points. 1. Mexican credits. Please find enclosed useful Information about the Mexican credit and grading system. In the Mexican system, full time students take 6 courses per term, equal to 39 Mexican credits. According to our experience, the equivalence of course credit is as followed: 3 credits (USA)= 5 ECTS = 6 credits U-ERRE 5 credits (USA)= 7 ECTS = 9 credits U-ERRE 20 credits (USA)= 30 ECTS = 39 credits U-ERRE The Mexican credits are translated into hours per week that a regular student would need for class activities including contact hours in classroom, homework, lab activities and so on. Mexico: Quick Facts 11

The classroom contact hour for a course are as followed: 6 credits U-ERRE = total of 42 contact hours* 9 credits U-ERRE = total of 70 contact hours* 6 credits U-ERRE = 3 contact hours* per week 9 credits U-ERRE = 5 contact hours* per week *hour = 60 minutes 2. Evaluation and grading. Short assignments, such as papers and problems, and monthly exams are typical during the semester. Longer assignments are given at the end of the semester, either as a term project or in the form of a final exam. Professors usually follow the students progress rather closely and are fairly accessible for individual conferences. There is a relatively high degree of class participation. Grading is based on a scale of 0-100 (with 100 being the highest grade and 70, the lowest passing mark). Monthly exams and special assignments are weighted differently at different faculties, but the final exam, which is usually cumulative, carries the most weight in determining the final grade. 3. Transcript of records. Transcripts are generally released in March for the Fall Semester and in July for Spring Semester and Full Year. The Summer Semester Transcripts are sent in November. Transcripts are sent to the student s home institution if there are no outstanding financial obligations. 12 MODELO EDUCATIVO

Living in Monterrey and Accomodation. Universidad Regiomontana has no residence halls, but we gladly help to get you lodged with host families or private apartments. Host families offer a complete cultural experience and include meals for 5,500-6,000 pesos/month. Apartments should be visited before you decide what to rent, there is a lot of offer and you do not need to make reservations beforehand. We recommend to lodge in a hotel or hostel and then participate in an apartment tour a whole day visiting different places for rent and at the end of the day you may or may not rent one of the places seen. We offer this service through our partner Rent a Place, a company specialized in finding housing for international students. You can visit their webpage at www.rentaplace.mx. Other good options are: Departamentos Colibri, www.departamentoscolibri. com.mx were you receive a special discount for being a U-ERRE -student. Finances, expenses and financial aid. The national coin is the Mexican peso (abbreviated $...MXN), 1 is worth more or less $17.50 and an American dollar is worth $ 13.00 approximately. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but please note that American Express traveller cheques are not! Tuition fees. Students from partner institutions are not required to pay any tuition fees. However, cultural and sports classes cost about 500.00 MXN a semester, parking or copies can present an additional cost. If your home university does not hold an agreement that covers tuition, you will be required to pay tuition for the Mexican credits you enroll. Exchange students get a 40% tuition discount. Full time studies (39 Mexican credits) pay around 35,000.00 MXN. Our programs are accredited and widely accepted by most educational financial aid organization, like the German Bafög. Visa requirements. Health and Insurance. If you are staying less than 180 days in Mexico, most European and north American nationalities do not need to apply for a special visa (but please check the country listing at http://www.inm.gob. mx/index.php/page/paises_visa/en.html). You will get a FMM form at the airport. Tell the officer you are staying less than 180 days and are not going to change to FM3 visa type. You might need to show the acceptance letter, please have it ready. Universidad Regiomontana can accept any insurance if you bring a letter of direct coverage naming the hospitals available for you in Monterrey and a 24-7 emergency number. The letter has to be written in Spanish or English. If you are staying longer than 180 days, or come for dual degree program or want to participate in an internship, you will need a student visa which you can get with your acceptance letter at the nearest Mexican embassy. Upon arrival you will need to register your address with the local Migration authorities, we will help you through the process. Please note: if you travel with the FMM form and stay longer than 90 days in Mexico, you are not eligible to travel through the USA with an ESTA permit. You need a US visa if you want to stay in a neighboring country longer than 90 days and do not hold a visa there. 18 Mexico: Quick Facts
