Part 1 - Minimum Hardware Requirements 64-bit x86 CPU that supports hardware virtualization (Intel-VT or AMD-V). Hardware virtualization enabled in the BIOS. 3.5 GB memory. 20 GB Hard Disk space. USB port Part 2 - Minimum Software Requirements Windows XP SP2 or later (host OS). Adobe Acrobat Reader Latest Mozilla Firefox, IE and Chrome JDK 6 * Eclipse EE Helios with Google plugin* VMware player 4.0 or later * - indicates software provided as part of the courseware. Part 3 - Software Provided You will receive the following file: WA1826.ZIP All other software listed under Minimum Software Requirements is either commercially licensed software that you must provide or software that is freely available off the Internet. Part 4 - Preparation 1. Extract the.zip file to C:\ 2. Review that the following folders were created: C:\eclipse C:\LabFiles C:\Software\ C:\VM_WA1826 3. Review that the following files were created: C:\Software\jdk-6u20-windows-i586.exe Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 4
Part 5 - Installing JDK 6 Update 20 1. Make sure there is no previous Java version already installed on the system. You can check this by using the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility. For the best compatibility with the labs it is suggested that all previous versions of Java be uninstalled before proceeding with these instructions. If this is an issue, please contact the setup support person for the course. 2. From the C:\Software directory run the following file: jdk-6u20-windows-i586.exe Note: If using prompted by a security prompt allow the installation to continue. 3. After a few moments the license agreement will appear. Press the Accept button to move to the next step. Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 5
4. Leave the defaults for installation location and options, and press the Next button. Note: The installation directory may be slightly different. The list of features may not include 'Java DB' but this is OK. The installation will begin installing files. Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 6
5. The Destination Folder will appear, leave the default folder and click Next. Note: The installation directory may be slightly different. Wait until the software is completely installed. 6. Click Finish. 7. Close any browser that appears asking to register the JDK software. Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 7
Set the Environment variables. 1. Open a Command Prompt. You can do this with 'Start Programs Accessories Command Prompt'. 2. Use the 'cd' command to attempt to switch to the following directory. This will verify the presence of a directory used later so make sure you do not get any errors about not being able to find the path specified. cd C:\Progra~1\Java\jdk1.6.0_20 Note: On a Windows Vista/7 setup the installation directory may be slightly different. You may need to use the following directory instead of the one listed above: C:\Progra~2\Java\jdk1.6.0_20 Some of the remaining steps will use the slightly different directory. 3. From Start > Control Panel, double click on System. Note: If the "Classic" control panel is not displayed you might need to click the "System and Maintenance" link. 4. If using Windows Vista click the link for "Advanced System Settings". 5. Select the Advanced tab. 6. Click the Environment Variables button. 7. Under the System Variables list, click the New button. 8. Enter JAVA_HOME as Variable name. 9. As Variable value enter the following. This should be the value you verified in earlier steps. C:\Progra~1\Java\jdk1.6.0_20 Note: If you are using a 64-bit OS use 'C:\Progra~2\Java\jdk1.6.0_20' instead. 10. Click OK to create the variable. 11. From the System Variables list, select Path and click Edit. 12. At the beginning of the line enter the following. Make sure to include the semi-colon on the end: %JAVA_HOME%\bin; 13. Click OK. 14. Part 6 - Verification of JDK 6 Update 20 1. Open a Windows command prompt. You can do this by selecting 'Start -> Run', entering 'cmd', and then pressing the OK button. Make sure it is a new command prompt and not one open previously. 2. Enter the following command: echo %PATH% Make sure you see the Java 'bin' directory listed at the beginning as shown below. 3. Enter the following command: java -version Make sure you see the response shown below. 4. Enter the following command: javac Verify that you get the options to run the Java compiler: 5. Close the command prompt window and any extra windows that are open. 6. Restart the computer. JDK 6 Update 20 is now installed! Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 10
Part 7 - Configuring Eclipse IDE for Java Developers - Helios 1. Run C:\eclipse\eclipse.exe 2. The Eclipse splash screen will appear. 3. A Workspace Launcher dialog will appear. Leave the default workspace and click OK. 4. Eclipse will open. 5. Close Eclipse. Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 11
Part 8 - Installing the VMWare image 1. Open a file browser and find the VMware player executable file located in C:\VM_WA1826 folder. Note. If you don't find the VMware player executable file in this folder then download it from the VMware website using the following link: http://www.vmware.com/index.html 2. Run the VMware player executable file and accept all the defaults during the installation. 3. Restart the computer. 1. From the Start menu, select All Programs > VMWare > VMware Player. 2. If prompted to download a new version of VMware player decline the update. 3. Click Open a Virtual Machine. 4. Select the OpenStackCloudLabVM.vmx file located under the C:\VM_WA1826 folder. The OpenStackCloudLabVM will appear on the list of machines. 5. Click Edit virtual machine settings at the bottom of the VMWare Player Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 12
The Virtual Machine Settings screen opens. 6. In the Hardware tab (opened by default), click CD/DVD (IDE) Device 7. Uncheck the Connect at power on (or keep it clear if it was unchecked already) Device status 8. Click Floppy 9. Uncheck the Connect at power on (or keep it clear if it was unchecked already) 10. Click Sound Card 11. Uncheck the Connect at power on (or keep it clear if it was unchecked already) 12. Click Printer 13. Uncheck the Connect at power on (or keep it clear if it was unchecked already) 14. Click OK at the bottom of the Virtual Machine Settings Screen to close it 15. Connecting remotely (Optional) If the students will be connecting remotely to this machine then you need to install in the students machine Remote desktop connection. There are many ways to provide the remote information, here we are providing information to access using an static IP. You will need to contact the infrastructure department to configure your network and provide the right information to the students to connect into this machine. 20. Open remote desktop connection and enter the IP address. 21. In the login screen enter wasadmin for username and password and click OK. The session will open, note that not all the options will be shown as when you are accessing directly in the image. Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 16
Shutting down the VMWare image. 22. In the desktop, click the cog icon in the top right-hand corner and select Shut Down from the drop-down menu. 23. Confirm the Shut Down request to close all programs and shut down the computer (this operation, actually, takes you to the Ubuntu's login screen). 24. From the menu, select Virtual Machine > Power > Power Off. 25. Click Yes to shut down the image. Copyright Web Age Solutions Inc. 17
