The quantity of data is increasing, a growing number of applications with diverse requirements for data storage are used and companies are completely dependent on this data. In addition to this, there are new developments regarding storage, such as virtualisation, that also puts demands on IT infrastructure, while addressing the need to keep costs under control. There are many solutions for the problems an IT manager encounters. However, it is very difficult to find a good overview of the solutions and the matching functionality. That is exactly what we intend with this guide. This material provides an overview of possibilities and functionality of NetApp linked to modern storage problems and actual storage issues. This booklet is not an introduction to enterprise storage; it is aimed at IT managers who want to go one step further with their data storage and protection solutions. How does NetApp simplify storage with all the different software solutions available? It adds the most important functionality to its products. This way, you will not need to acquire a new software solution for every new demand. Your reseller will provide more information about the solutions that are important for your infrastructure. This booklet is mainly for reference with an overview of the possibilities. 2014 Nowcomm This brochure serves as informational material. Even though the content of this brochure was carefully compiled, the specifications of certain functionalities could differ from the description provided here. Nothing in this document should be considered to be legally binding with regard to additional guarantees. Neither Nowcomm nor its NetApp resellers are responsible for technical or other errors or omissions in this material. 2 3

Modern storage problems How can NetApp help you? The modern IT manager is confronted with numerous challenges, of which the complexity of the IT environment is probably the largest. How does NetApp help to reduce this complexity and how does this smart software address the problems? Application Integration (page 15) Business Applications & Databases Infrastructure Data Transport & Collaboration Technical Applications & File Management Opposite is a diagram of the most important issues for which NetApp provides solutions. On the pages thereafter we use the solutions offered by NetApp to solve these challenges. Finally we explain the specific functionality of the different solutions. Consolidation & Virtualisation (page 6) Data Protection & Data Retrieval (page 10) Business-demands on IT Flexibility & Efficiency (page 12) New Possibilities Proven & Reliable Technology Go further, faster 4 5

Consolidation and virtualisation Consolidation and virtualisation can be mentioned in one breath in modern IT environments. Both serve similar purposes: IT challenges How can NetApp remedy these problems? The promise of virtualisation and the challenges Many IT managers see virtualisation on the server-side as a magic cure to simplify the ever-increasing complexity for users. At the same time virtual systems lead to an explosive growth of data. As well as this, consolidation of storage leads to more intensive traffic on the storage hardware. Lower costs IT objectives Reduce costs Protection of intellectual property Improved performance and availability Guaranteed 50% less storage required The clever deduplication technology of NetApp, for example, ensures that double data is a thing of the past. Cost-effective data protection Traditional backups take too long and cannot be controlled. The NetApp SnapShot technology makes a copy of the data and ensures almost immediate, incremental backup. Virtually continuous availability The SnapShot technology has almost no impact on the performance of the server; it runs within the storage environment of NetApp. A SnapShot can be retrieved at lightning speed. Virtual infrastructure Reduction of costs Protection of intellectual property Improved performance and availability Increased flexibility of the infrastructure Virtual servers and desktop 33 3 3 33 Server storage x 3$ 3$ x Desktop storage x x 3$ 3$ x x Better service More flexibility and adaptability Storage just as flexible as virtual servers Deduplication and SnapShot help to make the storage more flexible, since copies of the data can be put in very easily. The Storage Area Network protocols may be freely selected to suit the environment or the application to best meet customer requirements. NetApp systems offer support for all protocols simultaneously as part of the Unified Storage Architecture. Virtualisation without NetApp solutions means a huge additional investment in storage-solutions on the back of your virtual servers. Legend 33 Simple 3 Fairly simple 3$ Fairly simple, yet very expensive x Difficult xx Almost impossible 6 7

Immediate backup with no impact on the server performance Traditional backups use the CPU-capacity of the server. NetApp creates SnapShots of the data from the storage controller that have almost no impact on the server performance. Less space is occupied, backups are faster and the system can thus be restored faster. Deduplication NetApp deduplication technology identifies duplicates in the data and removes them after comparison on 4K Block level. The file will look the same to the user. The saving made by deduplication is applicable to all possible data, including primary data, backup, DR, test clones and archive copies. Original data 4K Block level Double blocks identified Double blocks removed File looks the same to users VM1 VM2 VM1 VM2 Deduplication is essential for virtualisation Many virtual machines are almost identical. NetApp only saves the differences. Traditional backup is not practical The problem Intensive server use No separate capacity available for backups Tape is slow, complex and expensive Recovery is very expensive and time consuming Fast, affordable and easy backup and restore NetApp SnapShot solution Servers run applications, with no background processes Direct backup and recovery Little storage overhead Consistent backup of applications Duplicate data is eliminated. NetApp FAS System Protocols in a virtual environment iscsi: Suited to small & Medium Enterprise (SME) environments. NFS: Generally suited to UNIX and VMware environments where NFS offers high performance and flexible configuration over Ethernet. FC: Fibre Channel will normally be most appropriate where an existing Storage Area Network based on FC is in place or where high throughput connections are required. There is no preferred method of connection to the NetApp storage system as all connections and protocols are supported allowing total flexibility. 8 9

Data protection: an ever-increasing challenge Making a good backup of different servers, systems and applications is becoming more and more complex. The enormous amount of data makes it physically impossible to run (for example) nightly backups of the days work. In addition, management of the media becomes increasingly difficult, especially when more than one backup system is used. Modern backup challenges How does NetApp ensure a fast and efficient backup? Data is reduced by at least 50% with deduplication. You manage your backup of your infrastructure centrally and retain control of the media. Regular backups are created online via SnapShots, with almost no impact on the system performance. Incremental backups are created via SnapShots. You determine your own policy regarding data replication. al What are the most frequent backup challenges? 68% Meeting the backup window 49% Restore takes too long 40% Very time consuming 33% Media management Business Against this are the business requirements: Comply with the Service Level Agreements Scaling to keep up with the growth Risk management Cost management In short, by using less storage capacity, only saving changes as a backup and also by not using server hardware, you can run your backups whenever you like and as frequently as you wish. You manage your backups and media centrally and determine which data should be saved most securely. Source: Disk-to-Disk Backup and Recovery, Enterprise Strategy Group, 2005. Percentages of all users, based on more possible answers. How does NetApp contribute to continued availability? The data traffic between the two sites is limited by using SnapShot technology. 10 11

The sum total of efficiency NetApp software ensures storage efficiency on different fronts. Besides this, the different efficiencyincreasing features add up to major savings in space and time, while flexibility is increased at the same time. How does NetApp ensure greater efficiency? Different NetApp technologies ensure a dramatic reduction of the storage capacity required: The limitations of RAID RAID is a technology based on multiple disks which ensures that when one disk fails, the functionality of this disk will be taken over by the others. However, when this functionality is applied, the load on the other disks is such that double disk failure is quite common. RAID DP from NetApp can be used as protection against double disk failure. Cost effective reliability of data Deduplication reduces required storage capacity by over 50%, while backups require up to 95% less room. Compression Data compression is performed inline and immediately reduces the amount of stored data. Double Parity RAID (RAID DP ), a solution that protects your data from double disk failure, saves up to 46% of the required storage capacity. Save up to 95% Save up to 46% Thin Provisioning, with FlexVol, makes the assignment of storage capacity to applications more flexible and saves 20 to 33% of unnecessary reserved disk space. SnapShot technology creates copies of the data, like a type of photocopy, without using the matching disk space. Save up to 80% disk space. 33% Save up to 80% The problem Double disk failure > Although very rare, double disk failure presents a critical risk of data loss RAID 5 (single parity disk) > insufficient protection RAID 10 (mirrored copy) > double costs RAID 5 RAID 6 NetApp RAID-DP solution Protects against double disk failure High performance and quick rebuild Same protection and performance as RAID 10 at half the cost RAID 10 RAID-DP Cost Low Low High Low Performance Low Low High High Thin Replication, data replication from disk to disk, saves up to 95%. Application support The sum total of the savings. The different NetApp technologies for saving disk space ensure increased efficiency as required storage capacity increases. Storage Costs Capacity Requirements Unlimited data growth Snapshot TM Technology SATA Drives RAID-DP Thin Provision Virtual Cloning Thin Replication Deduplication The total effect of storage efficiency ally critical applications and data A number of popular applications are very demanding on data management and data protection. ally critical applications such as ERP systems and databases demand constant availability and a backup can actually not be done often enough. NetApp can optimise the availability of application data for different applications by means of SnapShot technology combined with special SnapManager software. Different service layers The SnapManagers form a service layer that handles data management, backup and restore functions. SnapDrive is also available for a Windows environment, which makes it easy to create virtual disks and to manage LUNs. SnapManager for MS SQL Server, MS Exchange (incl. Single Mailbox Recovery), MS SharePoint Server, Oracle, Virtual Infrastructure and SAP: 50% less power, cooling and space Using less disk space has additional green benefits: reduced power consumption, less cooling is needed. NetApp software solutions Details Supporting multiple protocols Your IT and storage environment changes, so you may want to anticipate these changes. But which protocols and technologies give you peace of mind for the future? NetApp technology means you can never make the wrong decision, because all protocols are supported. Snapshot A SnapShot can be made at any time of the day with NetApp SnapShot technology. This is more or less a data photocopy. You can produce SnapShots as often as you like (up to 255 SnapShots for each volume) without serious impact on the performance of your storage system. A review of supported protocols: Files IP Windows servers Windows clients Windows: CIFS functionality Designed to provide Microsoft Windows servers access to the IP-network through the Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocol. Microsoft Windows client access licenses (CAL) are not required. Supports an active directory. - Direct file backup and recovery for end users. - Space-efficient: The only space used is space to save metadata. Pointers are used to refer to data blocks. Additional SnapShots only copy pointers to new blocks from the most recent SnapShot. - Only block-level-changes are stored, as a result of which minimal space is required for every following SnapShot. - In addition to this, a SnapShot also has practically no impact on performance. - In comparison with other point-in-time data copies, the unique SnapShot technology of NetApp reduces the number of I/O actions by more than 60%. This produces better performance, even with multiple SnapShots in succession. Files IP Unix & Linux servers Unix and Linux: NFS functionality Designed to provide Unix and Linux servers access to an IP-network via the Network File System (NFS) protocol. V2, V3 and V4 are supported. SnapRestore The system can replace a backup within a few minutes with NetApp SnapRestore technology. With this, your Recovery Time Objective (RTO) or: How long before I am operational again? is reduced to 15 minutes or less. FC SAN Blocks IP Blocks Unix & Linux clients Unix, Linux & Windows servers Unix, Linux & Windows servers IP SAN: iscsi functionality Developed for data transfer in block I/O format between storage and servers via the iscsi-protocol. Offers the possibility to create IP SAN s for optimal database exchange in an IP-environment. SAN: Fibre Channel Protocol functionality Developed for data transfer in block I/O format between storage and servers via the Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP). Allow participation of a NetApp storage solution inside a Fibre Channel SAN-environment. - Users can retrieve data at file, volume or system levels themselves, if they use CIFS technology. - Volumes for individual large files can be retrieved through a simple command for files that are protected with SnapShot technology. - Recovery of SnapShots happens almost simultaneously, whereby data movement is not required. - Saves the IT department a lot of time and search effort at the moment that the data needs to be retrieved from tape. 22 23

RAID-DP NetApp developed RAID-DP to prevent the effects of double disk failure. Not only can RAID-DP retrieve a simultaneous double disk failure, it also ensures that impact on performance is very limited. Why RAID-DP? - Traditional single-parity RAID technology provides protection for single disk failure. The expectation is that no other disk will fail and no other irreparable bit errors will occur during the recreation of a defective disk. - Statistically, the chance for a second disk failure is at its highest during the moment of rebuilding. At that moment the disk is indeed used intensively. If another disk fails at the moment of rebuild, the data is lost. - And the larger the disk media, the higher the possibility of an irreparable bit error; because the disk capacity is increased but the error frequency stays the same. This way, the capacity of the traditional single-parity RAID to protect data is stretched beyond acceptable levels. The benefits of RAID-DP Stays operational in all situations where 2 disks fail simultaneously. For SATA-disks but also applicable to FC-disks. Ground-breaking innovation: USENIX Best Paper in 2004. Protects better than single-parity RAID or RAID0+1. No performance impact for industry-leading protection. SnapDrive SnapDrive is designed for optimised use of database environments. With SnapDrive, managers can simply create virtual disks from the storage present in a distributed environment. P - This solution prepares a virtualised local disk for Windows servers (FCP or iscsi). From a logical point of view, storage that is managed through SnapDrive seems to be from locally attached disk sub-systems. - With SnapDrive you can add disks, remove them, map them, un-map them and mirror virtual disks online. - You can expand capacity on the fly whenever you need to without impacting the application or system performance. FlexVol Thin Provisioning By using FlexVol (thin provisioning), you can make virtual disk space available while there is physically less disk space present. Without FlexVol, application is limited to pre-determined space. Application is allowed to use more disk space if it is needed. FlexClone Recordable Snapshots Space and time efficient, dynamic, non-disruptive storage (thin) provisioning. Developed to let managers create multiple flexible volumes over a large disk pool. Provides applications and users the possibility to utilise extra disk space dynamically and continuously without the need for administrators. Helps with more productive use of available storage and enhances the performance. You can start with less disk space than that which is actually needed. This way, you can work cost-efficiently. FlexClone makes you a copy of the original data, without storing it separately. You can make the copy without having to take the production database offline. New production write tasks User reads unchanged SnapShot database. FlexClone Flexible Volume base production data User writes data to new clone copy. Use FlexClone to describe complete replicas. Create immediate replicas of data volumes and sets without the required storage space that is needed at time of creation. Gives the IT administrator the opportunity to make a backup copy of a database and to enter it for test development purposes without influencing the production database or going into offline mode. Ideal for test environments, because only changes resulting from tests take up additional disk space. In this way, the need for disk space is minimal. Even if all the data is at your alternate location, you can just make a copy for testing and development purposes. This way you make optimal use of your alternate location. 24 25

SnapMirror SnapMirror provides asynchronous, synchronous and semi-synchronous replication over the inexpensive IP-protocol. Source IP Target An initial complete backup is followed by incremental block updates. Support from the Fibre Channel Protocol provides a high performance. Simplified deployment and management. Easy set-up and recovery. One product for all storage systems. Provides for, in combination with SnapManager, a watertight replication of application-consistent SnapShots. Cost-effective solution. Mirror between FC and SATA systems. Utilises SnapShots; therefore efficient storage and bandwidth usage. Provides the opportunity to apply the Disaster Recovery copy as active copy for remote read access for centralised backup and data distribution to remote locations. Remote clones for testing applications, QA and production staging. Space-efficient copies without impacting the performance of the production system. SnapVault SnapVault provides a homogeneous and very efficient disk-based online backup and restore by sending a SnapShot copy periodically (every hour) as backup to another system. NetApp primary storage Blocks NetApp near-line Complete native copies of the primary NetApp systems are first placed on the backup system. After this, only incremental block modifications are sent to the backup system. Efficient handling of disk space and bandwidth. SnapLock IP SnapLock provides SEC-compliant disk-based WORM technology. Open Systems SnapVault (OSSV) OSSV provides a homogeneous and very efficient disk-based online backup and restore by sending a SnapShot copy periodically (every hour) as backup to another system. Windows Servers UNIX/LINUX Servers Complete native copies of open DAS-systems are placed on the backup system. After this, only incremental block modifications are sent to the secondary system. Results in efficient handling of disk space and bandwidth. OSVV allows you to send incremental backup copies from Open Systems with DAS to NetApp disk systems. IP NetApp SyncMirror Synchronous local mirrors of a volume to another volume linked to the same filer. Includes volume mirroring between two clustered nodes. FC Plex0 RAID Groups Plex1 RAID Groups FC The solution provides non-deleteable and non-re-writeable data protection. The complete system or parts thereof can be partitioned to store WORM protected data. Compliant with the regulatory and the legal security obligation based on government and industry standards. 26 27

LockVault With LockVault, you can store a SnapShot copy in a non-deleteable and non-re-writeable format for compliancy. Deduplication Through deduplication, identical documents are written only once, and different versions of the same document do not take up disk space. Deduplication is done at block level in the NetApp storage cabinet, ensuring that disk space is utilised very efficiently. Disc space used NetApp primary storage NetApp primary storage NetApp primary storage PDF Exel Word NetApp secondary storage NetApp Disaster Recovery Target Nightly SnapShot backups save space. Only the modified blocks are stored and a complete backup is saved. ComplianceJournal logs record the changes between SnapShot copies. Original data Double blocks 4K Block level Double blocks identified Double blocks removed File looks the same to users. s of FAS deduplication Limited storage use, by the sharing of identical data blocks between files (inside the same volume). Between multiple backups of the same source data set. Between multiple backups of different source data sets. Inside one backup (identical files and blocks). Ideal for business processes and applications Archiving. Enterprise Content Management. Information Life Cycle Management. NearStore Data ONTAP maintains a fixed space for simultaneous SnapMirror and SnapVault transfers, based on the type of disks that are linked. Compression Compression and deduplication enabled on a Flexible Volume realizes immediate space savings with compression, and cumulative savings with post-process deduplication. The total savings will not necessarily be the sum of the individual savings. Simultaneous data streams The joint performance allows multiple data streams between two NetApp systems for applications as backup, data protection and protection against failure. N.B. simultaneous data streams are a combination of SnapMirror, SnapVault and Open Systems SnapVault sessions. Raw Data InLine Compressed Data Postprocess Compressed and Deduped Data s of compression Immediate space savings with inline compression. Cumulative space savings with post processing deduplication. Primary use cases Customers looking for ways to reduce primary storage consumption. Do not want to run a third-party compression solution. Low deduplication savings. SnapManager Specific applications and databases have specific demands for the way in which the application data backup is created. Besides, these applications are so operationally critical, that a rapid and accurate backup must be made frequently, so that it can be quickly retrieved in an emergency. NetApp has developed a number of specific SnapManagers for frequently used business applications in order to accommodate these problems. NetApp addresses the high requirements that are demanded of a mission critical data centre and the matching applications with these different SnapManagers. - The technology is based on the unique NetApp SnapShot technology, which is used to make complete and consistent backups, and restores within seconds. - The extremely fast backups are executed without having to put the applications offline and without significant impact on the performance. - SnapShot technology allows you to store up to 255 copies of the data, which creates a better opportunity to return to a specific moment in time. - SnapManagers support iscsi as well as Fibre Channel protocols. SnapValidator SnapValidator detects and prevents potential corrupt data in Oracle before these can create problems. MultiStore MultiStore was developed to quickly and easily create separate partitions in file network and storage resources. Oracle Database Server Oracle validates blocks and adds protection information. SnapValidator validates the data based on Oracle information IP Fibre Channel or IP (iscsi, NFS) Oracle system awards a unique value to every write-task, based on the sum of the data and sends data sets though the I/O path to the NetApp FAS. When received, SnapValidator calculates the sum of the data and compares it to the Oracle value. If the measured values do not correspond, the system will prevent the data from being processed and alert the system. SnapValidator connects to the HARD initiative of Oracle and provides the highest possible protection level for Oracle data. Every virtual partition is developed to remain independent of all the other storage partitions. This is done to separate the different departments that access the same NetApp disk cabinet. MultiStore helps prevent information being visible on all virtual partitions where it could be used by unauthorised users. This is similar to LUN masking on a Block Storage System. OnCommand System Manager SnapMover SnapMover is a local data migration solution that results in optimal workloads between NetApp split disk cabinets. OnCommand System Manager is the intuitive but sophisticated Management application supplied free with all NetApp storage systems. Provisioning and cloning for VMware environment. Clustered Failover (CFO) Application Cluster with NetApp clustering FlexShare NetApp Disk Volume Clustered Failover provides a number of possibilities when the system fails: Automatic failover with notification ensures continued data availability for a failed storage controller and sends a message to the administrator about the failover. Manual failover and restore offers the opportunity for planned maintenance of a storage controller, without influencing the availability. Transparent failover: users will not notice the failover; users have continued access to the data after a failover in the same way that the users are used to. Active/active configurations; both clustered controllers are operational and there are no unused resources available on a failover. Protection Manager Protection Manager provides automatic backup and replication control for NetApp disk-to-disk environments. PRIMARY DP SITE AUTOMATION SECONDARY REMOTE SITE Definite data protection via policy-based control. Elimination of time-intensive, manual configuration and mapping. Effective use of secondary and tertiary storage resources and thus fewer costs. UNIX/Linux Servers IP Windows Server FlexShare prioritises the instructions, applications and workloads. It offers administrators the following abilities: To configure better performance input without loss of performance of company critical needs. To consolidate different applications and datasets on a single storage system. To prioritise applications based on company critical importance and ensure a priority mechanism for higher priority per instruction, depending on the application. More effective storage consolidation. Critical workloads get priority when the controller functions at maximum capacity. Storage administrators can make on-the-fly modifications. 36 37

MetroCluster The ultimate availability is achieved by using two identical systems, where one acts as backup to the other. But such an alternate location cannot by definition take over the tasks of the main system directly and without intervention. Clustering techniques are necessary for that. However, there are also pros and cons. It is not yet a functional alternate location; it still needs manual disaster recovery and the control of a cluster environment demands a lot of attention. As the only option on the market, NetApp can prevent these problems with a MetroCluster. X Ym Dark Fibre or DWDM Switch Xm Vol-X Mirrored Vol-Y Mirrored Vol-x Vol-Y Y MetroCluster divides a dual node system into two single-node systems at different locations. If one of the cluster nodes is no longer available, the other (remote) cluster node takes over the identity transparently, without manual intervention. This way, MetroCluster provides both an optimal high availability and a rapid Disaster Recovery. Expands cluster failover possibilities from a primary to a remote location. Replicates data from the primary location to the remote location to ensure that the data is completely up-to-date and available. If location A goes down, MetroCluster offers the possibility to resume activities rapidly on other locations within minutes of the disaster. Stretch MetroCluster provides a disaster recovery option for a distance up to 500 metres between each NetApp system. Fabric MetroCluster provides a disaster recovery option up to a distance of 100km by using Fibre Channel switched network. Clustered Data ONTAP The clustered Data ONTAP architecture enables IT to adapt to changing infrastructure needs, eliminate planned and unplanned storage downtime, and speed response to business changes. It offers the proven efficiency to simplify storage, automate processes, and increase productivity. Seamless scalability allows customers to start small and grow big. Key Points Reduce risk and increase agility by standardising on a unified, clustered architecture Eliminate planned and unplanned downtime Consolidate and share the same infrastructure for multiple workloads or tenants Add capacity as you grow across both SAN and NAS environments Optimise dataset performance through new QoS technologies Multiprotocol NAS and SAN protocol support (NFS, SMB 3.0, FC, FCoE, iscsi) Heterogeneous platform support FAS and V Series Integrated Storage Tiering Massively scalable up to 24 nodes / 69PB Multi-Tenanted architecture. 100s of secure virtual storage servers Non-disruptive operations capacity and performance rebalancing, simplifies expansion and tech refresh and lessens the impact of maintenance and upgrades. 38 39
