I also volunteered at the Lake View Pantry (food bank) in Chicago. Mediating skills: During my stay in Madrid I would have to match up the economical point of view of both the contractors and the entrepreneurs, the visual and functional point of view of the architectural team with the structural safety of the buildings which my team was responsible. Intercultural skills: I lived for one year and half in Madrid, Spain and three months in Berkeley, USA. Furthermore, I have traveled to over 30 countries around the world. This background gives me the capacity to deal with different cultures and work environments Computer skills and competences Good command of Microsoft Windows environment and Microsft Office tools (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Most Relevant Projects - Tróia Design Hotel - Dolce Vita Coruña - Adora Mall

1. Most Relevant Projects Tróia Design Hotel Duration of design: 2005-2008 Location: Troia, Portugal Usage: Hotel, casino, conference center, entertainment center Website: http://www.troiadesignhotel.com/ Construction Area: 65 000 m 2 Overview: This complex was constructed in a mix between new reinforced concrete buildings and the rehabilitation of a 40 year old building which was supposed to become a luxury hotel, but was never inaugurated. The new structure for a casino, congress center and entertainment center was designed in reinforced concrete, with steel roof structure. For the larger spans prestressed concrete beams were used. Due to the sand soils, piles were used as foundations for the buildings. Adjacent to the existing building, a slender 14 storey apartment complex was constructed. With balconies shaped into waves, each floor different from the previous, this is the most remarkable feature of the complex. The cantilevers were designed with pre-stressed concrete slabs. The rehabilitation of the existing structure was accessed in two stages. First a thorough campaign determined the durability of the concrete and the reinforced steel. Afterwards several structural interventions were performed to make the building suitable for current demands. Therefore new stairs and elevator shafts were introduced, as well as new openings for utilities. Especially during the rehabilitation phase, there was a close connection with the contractor and project manager, which allowed overcoming several unforeseen situations with simplicity and in the shortest time possible.

Dolce Vita Coruña Duration of design: 2007-2008 Location: La Corunha, Spain Usage: Shopping center Website: http://www.dolcevita.pt/ Construction Area: 62 000 m 2 Overview: This Project consisted in the design of shopping mall, with two parking levels and two commercial levels. The structure was designed in reinforced concrete slabs supported in columns. To overcome unsupported long spans pre-stressed concrete slabs were used in some locations. Despite the simplicity of the structure, there was an increase challenge as the design and the construction started at the same time. Therefore to avoid delays that could be costly to the owners, the design team had to be always in contact with the construction site to identify the critical paths and to promptly solve any problems. Being expatriated in the Madrid office I was responsible to validate the structural design with the architectural team. In some cases I would have to convince them to undertake changes that were not welcome, but necessary from the structural stand-point.

Adora Mall Duration of design: 2007-2008 Location: Craiova, Romania Usage: Shopping center Website:http://www.sonaesierra.com/en- GB/portfolio/projects/Romania/Adora_Mall/default.aspx Construction Area: 59 000 m 2 Overview: This Project consisted in the design of shopping mall, with two parking levels and four commercial levels. The structure was designed in reinforced concrete beams and slabs supported in columns. The site was located in a highly seismically area, with a design peak ground motion significantly higher than designers are used to in Portugal. For this project I had a more active role in the participation of the coordination meetings, as I would not only convene with the architectural team, but also with the owners and all the other specialties (such as M&P, water, fire, etc).
