UK: ICT Sector The IT and telecoms industry accounts for 8 percent ( 75 billion) of the UK s total Gross Value Added. The UK is Europe s leading market for software and IT services, with a market value of 58 billion per annum. The UK is the biggest e-commerce market in Europe; UK consumers spend more per head online than any other country. Approximately 27% of UK jobs are ICT-related, the highest percentage in the G20.

Regional Software/ICT Hubs MediaCityUK is a vibrant and sustainable waterside community of workers, residents, students and visitors. At the heart of MediaCityUK, is one of the biggest HD studio complexes in Europe. The environment has been designed around the specific needs of the media and creative industries, in a region with a strong reputation for its creative talent. The Cambridge Cluster features a range of dynamic businesses, from healthcare and life sciences to IT and communications. In fact, there are around 900 high-tech companies in the Cambridge area, employing approximately 37,000 people. In Bristol, The UK Large Scale Complex IT Systems Initiative involves around 20 active cloud computing researchers, spread around the country, some of whom are working on projects that involve collaboration with - and sponsorship from - major multinationals such as BT, HP, and IBM. Digital Media Quarter continues to thrive in scale, ambition and success. Home to a creative cluster that includes BBC Scotland, Scottish Television, Film City Glasgow and as of February 2009; The Hub, a managed space for creative business with the aim of growing the digital media sector in the region, at a time when the industry is emergent globally. The North East of England is home to an exciting and thriving digital technology and digital media cluster. This cluster has fast established itself as one of the biggest in Europe. Altogether, the region s new media and interactive software sector enjoys an annual turnover of 256 million and a reputation for creative excellence. TechCityUK in London's East End is home to one of the largest concentrations of fast growing digital technology companies in Europe. Tech City is home to technology, digital and creative companies. From the original Silicon Roundabout, an entrepreneurial cluster has grown up around Shoreditch and Old Street in East London, extending to reach the Olympic Park in Stratford.
