Some limited accommodations may be made for students who cannot write their Exam on the scheduled dates due to illness, business travel, etc. Failure to write one of the Exams may result in the student s failure of the program. 9.2 Advising the Instructor It is the sole responsibility of the student to advise the Teaching Assistant, and/or Instructor, and/or CIFFA (as applicable), if they are unable to write an Exam on the scheduled date. If a student is unable to write an Exam on the scheduled date, the student must advise the Teaching Assistant/Instructor/CIFFA, by e-mail, prior to the scheduled Exam date and time. As soon as they are aware of a conflict, it is recommended to give notice early to ensure that the alternate date can be arranged. Failure to advise the Teaching Assistant/Instructor/CIFFA prior to the scheduled Exam date, will result in a zero mark for that Exam. In this instance, the writing of an Exam on an Alternate Date (9.3) will not be permitted. Updated: September 5, 2012 Page: 4 of 9

9.3 Alternate Exam Date If a student advises the Teaching Assistant/Instructor/CIFFA prior to the scheduled Exam date, they may be allowed to write the applicable Exam within five (5) business days of the originally scheduled Exam date. This Exam may be written prior (before) or post (after) the originally scheduled Exam date. Should the student not be able to write the Exam within five (5) business days the originally schedule Exam date (prior or post), they will receive a zero mark for that Exam. A zero mark for that Exam may result in the student s failure of the program. 9.4 Alternate Exam Fee A CAD $75.00, plus applicable tax(es) fee will be charged to the student, for each Exam written PRIOR to the originally scheduled Exam date. A CAD $125.00, plus applicable tax(es) fee will be charged to the student, for each Exam written POST the originally scheduled Exam date, or for a Make-Up Exam. These fees are payable to CIFFA BEFORE the student can write the Exam. Alternate Exam Fees may be paid by credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or by cheque. 9.5 Exceptional Circumstances 9.5.1 Exceptional Circumstances In Exceptional Circumstances (serious illness or hospitalization, childbirth, death in the immediate family, personal or family difficulties, etc.), certain accommodations may be made. Adequate proof must be provided to CIFFA, to substantiate the Exceptional Circumstance. The time frames indicated in 9.2, and the Alternate Exam Dates time frames of 9.3 must be adhered to. In extreme cases, additional time may be granted to write an Exam, at the sole discretion of CIFFA. The Alternate Exam Fees (9.4) will be waived for this Exceptional Circumstances provision. CIFFA has the sole right to decide whether the student s situation falls under the Exceptional Circumstance provision. 9.5.2 Zero Mark for Exceptional Circumstances Should a student receive a zero mark according to 9.5.1, the zero mark may be replaced with an Estimated Exam mark. This Estimated Exam mark will be based on the average mark for the other Exams that have been written by the student. This Estimated Exam mark will be calculated into the student s Final Grade, which may result in the student s failure of the program. CIFFA has the sole right to decide whether an Estimated Exam mark will be assigned. Updated: September 5, 2012 Page: 5 of 9
