APPLIED ENGLISH TRANSLATION PROGRAM ATA 101 Principles of Ataturk and History Revolution-I This course deals with the reform movements in last period of Ottoman Empire and the reasons of their failure, and the effects of those movements in Atatürk times, examples of events, ideologies to save the country in Ottoman time and among those ideologies, the effect of Turkish movement in the independence war CCC105 Communication & Learning Skills About communication and learning that students themselves and their environment by recognizing to become aware of their ability to communicate is intended. At the same time both private and social life in the business world effective communication throughout the process started and the highest quality information from the environment and information they can evaluate is targeted. Therefore, students' active, healthy and quality they can communicate, life skills necessary to cope with stress within the course can be taught. CTET101 Comparative Structure Analysis I The aim of this course is to compare and contrast Turkish and English within the framework of translation to understand the influence of one language on the other in terms of grammar and usage. It will provide the necessary basic skills, techniques and strategies involved in two-way translation. The course also deals with basic sentence structure, and a deeper understanding of the language and meaning. CTET103 English Usage and Style I This course will focus on reading and writing of different types of texts, placing emphasis on developing students ability to comprehend complicated and sophisticated texts of different types and register. CTET105 Introduction to Translation This course includes basic principles of translation, basic structures, syntax and meaning. It helps students to understand the nature of translation. It also includes the translation proces between the two languages, and comparision abilities. CTET107 Reading for Translation This course shall deal with various texts in English on several topics, with an emphasis on developing students comprehension skills and vocabulary in order to produce oral and written texts in Turkish with different rhetoric and register. It also includes reading techniques such as scanning and skimming. TRK 101 Turkish Language-I This course explores the prolific, orderly and rich ancient language that is Turkish. Students are expected to comprehend what they listen to and what they read in depth and with subtlety; and to express what they hear, see, think and understand in a planned, effective and rational manner both orally and in writing. Grammar topics are covered in such a manner that the meaning is well grasped thus making the student able to express himself/herself by virtue of observations and comparisons made on text passages. Students gain further information through presenting what they read.
CTET109 Advanced English This course aims to build on students' acquired English skills. It mainly covers useful details and complex structures in English grammar. ATA 102 Principles of Ataturk and History Revolution II This stresses that the principles of Atatürk are based on the ideals to reach modern nations with Turkish historical and cultural values. The content of Atatürk s words Peace at home, peace in the world policy is explained. The relationship between Ataturk s reforms and the Turkish nation s values with their unique features are examined. CTET108 Discourse Analysis The aim of this course is to teach the basic concept of semantics, fundamental movements of philosophy and psychology, and discourse theory. Students will study various texts of social science and literature. MBTE105 Information and Communication Technology This course will enable the learner to learn about Information Technologies history. In addition to this, learner will get practical knowledge on computer systems and its main components and operating systems. It is aimed to enable learner to get acquinted with basics of Information Technologies. Besides, it wil enable learner to be an expert in computer use and data management. Within the frame of this course learner will learn to use word processor, worksheet and presentation software. TRK 102 Turkish Language-II This course covers world and Turkish languages; analysis of informative and storytelling texts; knowledge of written expression (the paragraph and its types, ways of improving critical thinking skills in writing assignments: definition, illustration, comparison, quotation, to profit by statistics), types of expressions (explanative, argumentative, narrative, descriptive) writing different types of essays; prepared and unprepared speech (discussion, debate, telling jokes, narrating events and experiences, etc.); Turkish grammar (syntax, semantics); usage of Turkish (elements of expression, language mistakes); knowledge of Turkish spelling and punctuation.
CTET223 Social Text Translation This course aims at developing students awareness and understanding of terminology in the field ofsocial sciences. It will also cover the translation of social topics, international politics, international organizations, history, music, art, theatre etc. CTET205 Dubbing & Subtitling The aim of this course is to provide students with the essential background knowledge in the area of audio-visual translation and with the necessary techniques of subtitle translation and to enable students to achieve competence in subtitle translation. A variety of films such as feature films and documentaries are translated for the improvement of their competence to perform sound translations. CTET209 Translation Theory The aim of this course is to familiarise students with models and theories developed by the most influential theorists in the field of translation studies. It also covers theories and models developed recently by translation scholars and schools, the basic and common concepts and terms of translation studies, the political and social aspects of translation and the role of translator and translation. CTET229 Business Translation The aim of this course is to enable students to acquire written translation knowledge and skill required in fields of business and tourism. It includes reading and translation of a wide variety of business letters; (i.e. enquiry, order, complaint, letter of application) and text related to topics on business (i.e. foreign trade, insurance, customs and procedures, bills of loading). The course aims at raising students awareness and understanding of terminology in the field of tourism and hotel management and focusing on practice in the translation of materials such as tourism geography, tourism marketing, and hospitality. CTET227 Societies & Cultures This course aims to familiarise students with the language of social sciences through comparing andcontrasting attitudes, beliefs, traditions and ways of behaving related to family, class and status, education, health and welfare, religions, economy, government, and law and order. This course shall also examine the concept of culture and evaluate the effect of external influences on national cultures and behaviours. CTET204 Basic Skills in Interpreting This course aims at combining first-rate aural comprehension with the ability to take notes and to develop an ability to translate the gist of what is heard. The focus will be on the correct interpretation of discourse, register, intonation and specific terminology. MISLE213 Quality Management The aim of this course is to enable learners to understand the concept of quality and quality management and define it in the context of business and services operations. Learners will investigate the major quality schemes and evaluate these in terms of the benefits to the organisation and to the customers they serve.

MODE203 Research Methods and Techniques In this course students will have abilities to conduct research, to choice the subject of research, to research resources, to evaluate research results and presentation skills. MISL 213 Human Resource Management This course approaches the theories and the applications of human resource (HR) management from a broad perspective. Its emphasis is on the role of the HR management in business firms. It provides an understanding of the functions of HR management including HR planning, personnel selection and recruitment, training and development, career management, performance evaluation and compensation management and by doing so it evaluates all these functions in the context of their relations to one another. At the same time, it offers a comparative approach to worldwide HR management policies and applications. MLOJ229 Logistics This course will give the students a thorough understanding of the main modes of transport in international trade and address the more common management issues related to them. The first part of the course is to analyze the four modes of transportation and their characteristics as well as the transportation documents required for each mode of transport. The first part of the course examines different types of packaging options, which materials, the use of pallets and containers, packing marks, modes of transport and packaging. The second part of the course aims to teach about the logistics process and the different concepts involved in logistics. It is also aimed here to examine the different logistical infrastructures and is to analyze the factors to be considered when selecting a logistics company. In the final part, transportation and insurance procedures are thought when dealing with import and export operations. CTET208 Literary Translation This course aims at familiarising students with different literary genres and shall consist of written translation from English into Turkish of literary texts including poems, short stories, and plays. It also gives students how to approach to literary texts with the aim of translation, and strategies and tools needed to translate literary texts. CTET210 Technical Translation The aim of this course is to develop students practical knowledge and understanding an different areas of science and technology and to equip them with terminology used in different areas for recognition and production and be able them to translate by using appropriate structure, terminology, register and tone. It covers the topics, agriculture, environment, geology, construction, etc
CTET224 Consecutive Interpreting During this course, students practice consecutive interpreting from English to Turkish and Turkish to English, they acquire terminological knowledge from different fields of expertise. CTET228 Translation Support Systems The aim of this course is to familiarize students with information technology designed for translation. One or some of the new technological support systems are presented in class in order to make translation work easier. Also, students learn and practice how to use TRADOS translation software in detail and translate different text with different formats such as word, html, and pdf by using TRADOS. CTET226 Written Media Translation This course will focus on translation of news items, articles, editorials, cartoons and film, press, play, concert, book and sports reviews for written media materials oral presentation e.g. news and feature programs for the radio. Translation of these materials will be from English into Turkish and Turkish into English. CETET230 Sight Interpreting During this course, students practice sight interpreting. They translate various texts from various fields from English to Turkish and Turkish to English. They acquire some specific sight interpreting skills such as chunking and paraphrasing. MHIR 210 Brand Management This course is designed to help students understand the importance of the brand management process. The course starts with introducing basic branding terms and continues to cover topics such as brand strategy, research and positioning as well as brand extentions, measuring and managing brand equity over time. The course also focuses on the role that brand management plays in creating distinguished corporate image and strategic marketing plans. MISL236 Entrepreneurship This course introduces students to the entrepreneurial process from idea generation and teaches students the necessary skills needed to start their own business. The learning process includes understanding risk analysis. This course provides a detailed understanding of how a value generating entrepreneur can start his or her own business by organizing labor, capital, natural resources and technology through case studies and daily applications.
MHIR210 Technology and Innovation Management This course is about the roles of innovation and technology in business organizations and economy within the frame of general concepts and techniques of strategic management. Innovation processes, R&D management, technology transfer, R&D alliances among firms, relationships between human capital and technology, analyses of competitive forces, measuring the demand for technology, strategic decisions and implementations are some matters evaluated in the course. Within the frame of recent developments and foresights, these matters are involved in Technology and Innovation Management course transferring practical and theoretical knowledge about strategic decisions in business management in terms of achieving long term targets and its implementations.
