The JVM does not have the security problems like Apache Web Servers and withstands DDOS attacks without any chance that the attacker can gain root access to the server's OS. However, DDOS attacks on non-java Apache Servers or Microsoft's Web Servers can cause memory crashes thus allowing the attackers to gain root access to the server's OS and obtain complete control of the server.
