SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary a Brief History Dedicated to the saintly brothers who were great missionaries to the Slavic peoples, SS. Cyril and Methodius, the Seminary was founded in 1885. The purpose of the Seminary was to prepare candidates for the Roman Catholic priesthood, primarily to serve Polish American immigrant communities. Approval for founding the Seminary, as such, was granted on January 14, 1879, by His Holiness Pope Leo XIII, and SSCMS was placed under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Detroit. In 1909 the Seminary relocated to its current site in Orchard Lake, Michigan. The 115-acre campus is situated on the Eastern shore of beautiful Orchard Lake and includes a large Chapel, a modern library, Polish American museums, archives, and art gallery, as well as sporting grounds and athletic facilities, one of which houses an NHL-sized ice arena. 2014 SS. SS. CYRIL & METHODIUS SEMINARY Theology and lay ministry formation programs The Seminary offers degrees in theology and lay ecclesial ministry. MASTER OF ARTS (THEOLOGY) MASTER OF ARTS IN PASTORAL MINISTRY The Master of Arts (Theology) is an academic degree for men and women who seek greater breadth and depth in theological studies for purposes of enrichment, teaching, or further research. There are three specializations in this program: Systematic Theology, Moral Theology, and Liturgical/Sacramental Theology. This degree is offered in both traditional and online formats. The Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry (M.A.P.M.) prepares men and women for carious ecclesial ministries requiring pastoral leadership (e.g. parish ministry, pastoral care of the sick and dying, social ministries, and catechetical leadership). The program of formation is based on the four areas of growth (human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral), spoken of by John Paul II in, and by the US bishops in Co-Workers in the Vineyard. 10 2014 SS.
