Special Note Connection Problems and Handling Methods (CS203 / CS468 / CS469) Sometimes user cannot find the RFID device after installing the CSL Demo App and the RFID reader is connected. If user cannot find the reader using CSL Demo App, please check the following: Necessary Precautions on PC settings 1. User MUST disable the Window Firewall before they run the CSL Demo App. Or, if user does not want the Windows Firewall disabled, they MUST keep the port number UDP 3040, TCP 1515 and TCP 1516 open. 1
To keep the port number UDP 3040, TCP 1515 and TCP 1516 open, you must go to the Outbound Rules of Advanced Settings in Windows Firewall window in Control Panel and set: UDP 3040 Port Open TCP 1515 Port Open TCP 1516 Port Open And then go to the Inbound Rules setting and set: UDP 3040 Port Open TCP 1515 Port Open TCP 1516 Port Open 2. If there are multiple network interfaces on the PC, you MUST disable the other interfaces and LEAVE ONLY the connection enabled. 3. The user CANNOT have Virtual Machine running in the PC. All of them MUST be turned off before using CSL RFID Reader. 2
4. If C# Native Demo App is used, user MUST have installed the Dot Net Framework 3.5. To double check, for Windows XP, please go to Add or Remove Programs to check whether Microsoft.NET framework 3.5 SP1 is installed. For Windows 7, please go to Program and Features and click Turn Windows features on or off to check Microsoft.NET framework 3.5.1 is checked. 3
5. If Java Demo App is used on 64-bit OS PC, please ensure the Java 7 Update 51 (64-bit) or above is installed. User can download Java 7 Update 51 (64-bit) or above from: (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html) 4
Connect CSL RFID Reader to PC via Switch 6. User is required to connect CSL RFID Reader to PC via Switch and Internet as follow: When CSL RFID Reader is set up and configured for the 1 st time, the PC should be set to Static IP with basic subnet same as the reader (e.g. if reader is 192.168.25.203, then the PC can be 192.168.25.100): Static IP!! CSL RFID Reader (CS203 / CS468 / CS469) Switch The Switch should be disconnected from the Internet. Internet Once connected and demo app is run, user can set the reader s IP to the actual IP of his office or facility. (In the demo app, the Assignment button will allow the reader s IP to be modified) After CSL RFID Reader is set up and configured to the actual subnet of the user s office, then he can connect the reader into the network: CSL RFID Reader (CS203 / CS468 / CS469) Switch Internet Switch 5
7. PC should be set to static IP with IP address same as subnet of the CSL RFID reader. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections and set PC / Laptop IP address as below. Ensure the subnet mask is the same as the RFID reader (default IP: 192.168.25.203, subnet mask: 25). 8. When CSL RFID Reader is connected and IP address of PC is set, power up the reader. Check if the Blue light (located at the rear part of the reader) is on. 9. Check if the Green light (located at the rear part of the reader) is flashing (this LED flashing means physical layer is negotiating). If the green light is not flashing, please try again with another cable. The purpose of this is to eliminate cable problem. Sometimes the cable may be OK but the insertion at the reader end and the network switch end may be loose. Therefore one should also check the LED light on the socket of the switch to make sure that is also flashing. 10. Open a command prompt window and type ping 192.168.xxx.xxx to check the RFID reader connection. The reader will reply if it is connected successfully. 6
11. Open a command prompt window and type arp a. This will show the ARP table on PC, and there it should contain the reader IP address If the PC has the same subnet as the reader. 12. Run CSL Demo App (C# Native or Java) if there is no problem when running ping 192.168.xxx.xxx and arp a. 13. Search for reader and the reader can be found. 7
