I appreciate your interest in graduate study at East Carolina University. I have attached the instructions for international applicants (general instructions, financial costs of attending ECU, and insurance requirements). Please complete these forms and mail them to the Graduate School office together with a US$50 application fee. The final processing of all applications will occur only with the receipt of all materials (application form, transcripts, letters of reference, standardized test scores including the TOEFL) and the application fee. Due to the increased costs of mailing international applications we no longer mail applications overseas. Please print this email message and complete the application form to apply to the ECU Graduate School. If you have additional questions please contact me. To identify graduate programs and chairpersons please visit our web site at www.ecu.edu/gradschool. Thank you for your interest in attending East Carolina University Graduate School. An application is attached, which you should complete and return with a U.S.$50 nondeductible, nonrefundable application fee. Please make arrangements with a bank in your area to pay this fee through an international correspondent bank in the United States. Carefully review the instructions and supply complete answers to all questions. You must return this application and all supporting documents to the GRADUATE SCHOOL, EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY, GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, USA 27858-4353. DEADLINES: The Graduate School must also receive transcripts of all course work, letters of recommendation, and standardized test scores as described below. Applications for the fall semester must be received by February 1, and all credentials must be received as soon as possible thereafter, but no later than June 1, to ensure time for processing visa paperwork. We expect most students to apply for fall enrollment. Exceptions will be made for students who must enroll in the spring if all application materials are received by October 15. TRANSCRIPTS: One copy of an official transcript or documents with official seals as evidence of college work completed are required. Such documents must indicate that at a minimum a bachelor's degree or its equivalent has been awarded by an accredited college or university. To apply for the EdD program, you must also have a master's degree from an accredited institution. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Two letters of recommendation should be sent from persons who can attest directly to your academic competence or ability to do graduate work. The letters must be sent directly to the Graduate School. Counselor education, library and information studies, the School of Music, the School of Social Work, and the EdD in educational leadership require three letters. Letters are not required for business administration, elementary education, health education, exercise and sport science, mathematics, physics, rehabilitation studies, or science education. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: If English is not your native language, you are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which is administered at many sites worldwide. Your score on this test must be forwarded to the Graduate School by the testing service. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the writing test and 213 on the computer based test is required. Schools or departments may have higher minimum requirements. STANDARDIZED TESTS: Scores from one or more standardized tests are required for admission to all graduate programs. These must be forwarded to the Graduate School by the testing service. The Graduate School requires official test center copies of all test scores. However, students may send temporary photocopies in advance of the official copy to the Graduate School if applying during the peak months of November through March to facilitate review. However, the College of Business will not accept copies of the GMAT or TOEFL. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) are administered worldwide by the Educational Testing Service. All master's programs (except those in the School of Business) as well as the doctoral programs require the general test of the GRE. The graduate programs in accounting and business administration require the GMAT. In the School of Education, only adult education and counselor education do not require North Carolina Teaching Certification for admission. FINANCIAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS (Please read carefully.) The application forms include financial information that you must provide. No application will be reviewed unless this financial information is provided and the student provides certified evidence of financial resources.
