Babcock Asset Management The Infrastructure Division is a proven property asset management specialist. We currently work with over 15,000 properties and their associated assets within both the public and private sectors. In each case our role is to ensure that every infrastructure we create, manage or maintain, delivers the best possible efficiency, sustainability and value to its owner. Our preferred approach is to work closely with our customers, even colocating with them where possible to enable openness and fully-joinedup thinking. We do this to gain an in-depth understanding of needs and requirements from the beginning so we can design and implement an appropriate solution, and then procure the right providers to help us deliver it. Often we deliver a beginning to end solution, performing an array of feasibility and planning work, construction, facilities management and operation and maintenance support functions. We call this approach total asset management and we deliver it through some 1,600 employees as well as an extensive supply chain. We have also developed bespoke asset management software that logs, tracks and manages an asset portfolio over its lifetime. This enables us to show the customers how much they have spent on each individual asset over its lifetime and the current value of their portfolio. The quality of the work we do is the reason why we have established longstanding contracts with a diverse range of customers, delivering benefits that include risk transfer, reductions in total cost of ownership and increased cost certainty through smart supply chain management. asset management case study: Managing the MoD campus at Bristol & Bath The campus, spread across the Bristol & Bath area, is where the Ministry of Defence s procurement work is carried out. Some 11,000 military and public servants work in this extensive campus, which even has its own train station and postcode. Babcock provides total facilities management for the Bristol Bath estate. Through a combination of in-house resources and trusted supply chain partners, we provide 32 hard and soft facility management services. These range from estates planning and engineering support to the large and complex facilities through to day-to-day maintenance of the many on-site services which include a gym, three nurseries, a hairdressing salon, catering and cleaning. Everything we do is supported via a web portal that gives our 11,000 end-users 24/7 access to real time information and helpdesk assistance.
Babcock Project Management Outsourcing a project to Babcock gives you the reassurance that your assets will be in safe and highly experienced hands. Whether you would like us to provide quantity surveying, maintenance over the lifetime of a building you own or to consult on energy management or health and safety, we will complete the work you require to the highest standards, on time and on budget. We can do this because we have huge expertise in dealing with an array of property assets and the regulatory issues and complex requirements that often surround them. We also use proven processes to deliver value for you and to reduce your risk and uncertainty. These processes include detailed supply chain management for cost certainty and structured management reports and reviews to gauge performance. This tried and tested approach ensures we are able to control costs and ensure we meet timeframes and quality standards throughout the duration of each project. You will also find that consolidating the management of a project into a single integrated service provider will have the advantage of creating a single point of administration. This offers you the benefits of streamlined management and short communication lines - and the cost reductions these bring. project management case study: From Ealing to everywhere In 1999 the London Borough of Ealing awarded Babcock a five year contract to design and manage maintenance and major capital projects. This initial contract was extended for a further four years and will currently run until March 2010. To date we have successfully delivered 400 commissions of multi disciplinary services and are now undertaking 25 million worth of capital works a year. These are delivered through our team of over 50 professional, technical and administrative staff who work from a dedicated office close to our customer s administrative headquarters to ensure the closest cooperation. Over the last year Babcock has achieved an 85% satisfaction rating from Ealing on projects completed and this performance has helped us enter the Building Schools for the Future market, by securing a major 10 year contract with the London Borough of Hackney. The project includes the refurbishment or rebuilding of six secondary schools and four Special schools over a five year period, the provision of a comprehensive facilities management process for the duration of the contract and a 9.6 million investment in ICT (Information and Communications Technology) will allow each school to use state-of-the-art ICT equipment.
Babcock Engineering Excellence As part of the Babcock International Group, we can offer engineering skills and resources on a scale few other companies can match. These skills are seen every time we design or construct a building, undertake a mechanical or electrical design project, or create a technical support system for a customer. We also use our engineering expertise to develop sustainable energy solutions for our customers. These are helping reduce their carbon footprint and generate substantial energy savings. One example of this is the programme we implemented for Scottish whisky distiller Glenmorangie. The company had endured a sustained period of unreliability of their critical support utilities and asked our specialist engineering business in Scotland, Air Power International, to help. The bespoke solution delivered involved boilers, compressed air, refrigeration, chillers and HVAC, resulting in substantial process reliability and integrity improvements and reduced energy costs. Ultimately, what Babcock offers is asset management expertise backed by huge engineering know-how. And as end-user expectations continue to grow, along with society s dependence on complex technologies, this combination of specialist skills makes us the company you can trust to support you today and tomorrow. engineering excellence case study: Creating superior living accommodation for the Forces The main aim of the Single Living Accommodation Modernisation Project (Project SLAM) is to raise the standard of living accommodation for Forces personnel to meet the expectations of today s young service men and women. This immense programme requires the creation of 20,000 new bed spaces to tight deadlines, often with the added constraints of working within a secure environment at military bases. To deliver the project on time and on budget, Babcock is working with Bovis Lend Lease in a joint venture that combines our asset management skills with their construction management expertise. We have created an innovative modular solution that delivers a modern and uniform living space with standardised components. Not only does this reduce risk and uncertainty, it means we can maximise supply chain sourcing, bringing quality and cost improvements over time. From the outset, our core project management team has co-located with the customer forming an integrated project team. This has facilitated the coordination of the delivery of the programme throughout the UK. We have exceeded our delivery targets each year in the first phase of the project and have been appointed to deliver a second, even larger phase.
