CJPAs and SAAs will have the opportunity to engage in open conversation with one another about shared challenges, managing priorities within the governor s office, lessons learned, and potential opportunities for collaboration with other states. In addition, participants can identify technical assistance needs and learn from NGA, BJA, and NCJA about available resources and services that can support them in their efforts. It will highlight NYC RxStat, a platform for using timely and accurate data to quickly identify emerging drug trends and coordinate the public health and public safety response. Gary Slutkin, a physician by training, has adopted a public health approach to reducing violent crime through Cure Violence, which began in Chicago and is now in over 50 communities and 15 cities across the globe. Cure Violence, which relies on trained community members to anticipate where violence may occur and intervene before problems escalate, has been statistically validated to reduce shootings and killings. Dr. Slutkin will explore what makes this strategy successful and the potential policy implications for violence reduction efforts across the country. The panel will examine ways states can deliver inmate health care more effectively and at lower cost. In addition, they will discuss the implications of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for state justice systems. A.T.
