Gary Slutkin, a physician by training, has adopted a public health approach to reducing violent crime through Cure Violence, which began in Chicago and is now in over 50 communities and 15 cities across the globe. Cure Violence, which relies on trained community members to anticipate where violence may occur and intervene before problems escalate, has been statistically validated to reduce shootings and killings. Dr. Slutkin will explore what makes this strategy successful and the potential policy implications for violence reduction efforts across the country.
